11 Puppies Among Dead In Fire

(PERTH EAST, ON) – On October 5, 2022, at approximately 12:25 a.m., members of the Perth Couth Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a structure fire on Wellington Road 86 in the Township of Perth East.  It was a reported that a barn containing some horses, dogs and puppies was fully engulphed.

Drayton Fire Department, Linwood Fire Department, Mapleton Fire Department-Moorefield, Milverton Fire Department and Sebringville Fire also responded.

Wellington Road 86 remained closed for fire operations through the night but is now open. There were no injuries reported however, 3 horses, 2 dogs and 11 puppies are reported to have been lost in the blaze. The fire has been deemed non-suspicious. The damage is estimated at approximately $500,000.

Officer Assaulted – NETHERY Charged

(PERTH EAST, ON) – On October 1, 2022, at approximately 11:32 a.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was escorting a male to court when he became combative and assaultive.

As a result, Tyson NETHERY, a 24-year-old resident of Grand Bend, has been charged with:

–      Assault a Peace Officer

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Another Stolen Vehicle Recovered – Johan WIEBE Arrested

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges against an Elmira resident after being stopped in a stolen vehicle.

On September 30, 2022, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Perth OPP officers stopped an off-road vehicle on Line 87 in the Municipality of North Perth. A vehicle check revealed the vehicle was stolen and the driver was a suspended driver.   

As a result of the investigation, Johan WIEBE, 24, a resident of Elmira was charged with:

–      Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000- in Canada

–      Driving while under suspension

–      No ORV permit

–      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Another Meth Bust – Ryan SMYTH

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On October 1, 2022, at approximately 12:33 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a motor vehicle on Line 88 in the Municipality of North Perth.  

Upon speaking with the driver, the officer had reason to believe the driver was impaired by a drug. The driver conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, he was subsequently arrested and transported to a local operations centre for a Drug Recognition Evaluation.

As a result, Ryan SMYTH, 32, of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township, has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Methamphetamine

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.

WHITFIELD Arrested Again – Police Cruiser Rammed, Officer Assaulted, etc.

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges against a Wingham resident after he rammed a police cruiser with a stolen vehicle.  

On October 1, 2022, at approximately 7:40 p.m., Perth OPP officers investigated stolen plates attached to a parked vehicle at a business on Road 164 in the Municipality of North Perth. The driver of the vehicle rammed the police cruiser twice and another parked car before he fled on foot. A vehicle check revealed the vehicle was also stolen.

As a result, Nollan WHITFIELD, 36, a resident of Wingham was arrested and charged with:

–      Dangerous operation

–      Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

–      Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

–      Assault A Peace Officer with a weapon

–      Resist Peace Officer

–      Flight from peace officer

–      Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Failure to stop after accident

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.

Edward A. OSTER – Assault, Trespass At Night & Theft

(TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, ON) – One person is facing criminal charges after the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called regarding an unwanted person at an address in the Township of Puslinch.

On September 25, 2022, the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of an unwanted person at an address on Watson Road South, Puslinch. The homeowner located a person on their property who was allegedly trying to commit a theft. Upon confronting the person, the homeowner was assaulted. 

As a result of the investigation, Edward A. OSTER, 45-years-old of Moorefield, has been charged with the following criminal code offences:

·        Assault

·        Trespassing at Night

·        Theft Under $5000

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph, at a later date.

Fatal Collision

(MEAFORD, ON) – Members from the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment remain on scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash that has taken place west of Meaford.  

This afternoon at approximately 12:20 p.m., Grey Bruce OPP, Grey County Paramedic Services and the Meaford Fire Department responded to the collision scene located on Highway 26 just east of Grey County Road 112.

Upon arrival officers located a head-on collision between a compact vehicle that was travelling eastbound on Highway 26 and a pickup truck that was travelling westbound on Highway 26. 

The driver of the compact vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two passengers from the compact vehicle were airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The name of the deceased will be released pending next-of-kin notification.

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team are currently on scene assisting with the collision investigation. 

Grey Bruce OPP has closed Highway 26 between Grey County Road 112 and 7th Line. 

Please use an alternate roadway to avoid a delay.

Attempted Abduction Update – Norman SMITH Arrested

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On September 25, 2022, at approximately 3:40 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a male driver who approached a 13-year-old female and told her to get in his vehicle.  

As a result of police investigation, a suspect not known to the victim was located.

Norman SMITH, 61-year-old of Mount Forest, was arrested and charged with:

–      Criminal Harassment

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Stratford at a later date.

30 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On September 20, 2022, at 9:09 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a two-vehicle collision along McPherson Crescent in Kincardine. Officers arrived to find one of the involved vehicles was parked at the time. The driver was found to have been drinking alcohol.

Kody STEWART, 30-years-old, of Kincardine was charged with Operate over 80 milligrams. The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton to answer to the charge.

This charge includes an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment.

Catalytic Converter Stolen

(PERTH EAST, ON) – On September 25, 2022, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police investigated a break and enter at a Road 108, Perth East address.

Sometime between 7:00 p.m. on September 24, 2022, and 7:00 p.m. on September 25, 2022, unknown person(s) attended the address and gained entry to a shop on the property. Once inside, unknown(s) removed a catalytic converter from a vehicle.   

Police are continuing to investigate and ask the public to report suspicious activity immediately, and remember to lock doors to vehicles, houses, garages, and sheds. Do not leave keys with vehicles, including ATVs. Consider installing security features, such as increased lighting, cameras, or alarms.

Business Scammed Out Of $150,000 USD

(PERTH EAST, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reminds public to be vigilant after a Perth East business was defrauded $150,000US.

On September 21, 2022, police responded to fraud incident at a business located on Line 34 in the Township of Perth East.

During the investigation, it was determined that a local business was working with a vender located in Burlington, Ontario to purchase a machine. The buyer sent a wire transfer to the vender via the email they were using to communicate. Allegedly the vender’s email was hacked, and the suspect was communicating on that email to the victim. The vender never received the money transfer.

The investigation is ongoing.

OPP is reminding the public to be aware of the warning signs, and to never give out any personal information to someone you don’t know. Always verify all contact information and don’t just call a number or email and address that some unknown person provides you with. The name on the caller display may be fraudulent. Give yourself some time to complete your own research. If someone calls you and identifies themselves as a bank representative, hang up and call your local branch to verify the call is legitimate.

Attempted Abduction Reported

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating an attempt abduction from the area of Wallace Avenue North in the Municipality of North Perth.

On September 25, 2022, at approximately 3:40 p.m., a 13-year-old female was approached by a male driver who told the female to get into his vehicle.

The male is described to have dark skin, possibly in his 50’s, wearing a Gucci brimmed hat with a white beard.

The vehicle involved is described to be a white four door sedan with a Quebec licence plate.

Stolen Vehicle Found Submerged

(MEAFORD, ON) On September 25, 2022, at 11:51 a.m., officers from the Grey Bruce OPP responded to a report of a submerged vehicle just off of St. Vincent Street in the Municipality of Meaford.

Just after 6 p.m., a motor vehicle was removed from the water. There were no occupants within it.

The motor vehicle had previously been reported stolen, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Grey Bruce OPP would like to thank members of the public for their cooperation in remaining away from the area while crews worked.

Hydro Worker Electrocuted – Life Threatening Injuries

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are currently on scene of a workplace injury that has taken place just east of Wingham.

At approximately 10:44 a.m. this morning (25Sept) Huron OPP and Huron County Paramedic Services responded to Howick-Turnberry Road (Huron County #7) between Bok Line and Gilmour Line to assist a hydro worker that sustained injuries from an apparent electrocution.

The injured worker has been sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Ministry of Labour has been notified and they will be attending the scene to assist with the investigation.

Huron County OPP has temporarily closed Howick-Turnberry Road between Bok Line and Gilmour Line. 

The roadway is anticipated to be closed for at least another couple hours for the investigation.

David CAREFOOT Arrested Again

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – A Kitchener resident is facing some new charges along with his previous charges from outstanding warrants from Owen Sound following an arrest made by Perth County Ontario Provincial Police.

On September 21, 2022, just after 7:00 a.m., a Perth County OPP office came across a male party located at a business on Mitchell Road South in the Municipality of North Perth. The officer spoke to the male and subsequently arrested him for the outstanding warrants. A search incident to arrest revealed the accused to be in possession of some drugs believe to be fentanyl and a stolen motorcycle.

As a result, David CAREFOOT, 41, of Kitchener has been charged with:

–      Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

–      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid

–      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

The accused has been held in custody.
