Youth Charged After Break And Enter At School

(WEST PERTH, ON) – One youth has been charged following a break and enter and mischief at Mitchell District High School.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday March 27 2020, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an alarm at the Mitchell District High School on Frances Street, in the Municipality of West Perth. Police discovered that someone had smashed the glass in a door to gain entry into the building, and additional damage was found inside.

When police arrived on scene moments later, one youth was located hiding inside the school. The youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), was arrested and charged with:

Break and Enter CC 348(1)(a)

Mischief Under $5000 CC 430(4)

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford, at a later date, to answer to the charges.

72 Year Old Succumbs To Injuries – 36 Year Old Facing Second Degree Murder Charge

(DRYDEN, ON) – On March 2, 2020, at approximately 9:54 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Dryden Detachment responded to a report of a suspicious person at Arbour Jade Trailer Park on McGogy Road, Dryden.

In the following hours, several calls were placed to the OPP resulting in police attending the trailer park to investigate the death of one person and the serious injury to four people.

Investigators believe these incidents to be related and the investigation remains ongoing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

On March 25, 2020 a second victim Dorothy BROWN, 72-years-old, of Dryden succumbed to her injuries. A post mortem was conducted on March 26, 2020.

As a result, Justin DESAUTELS, 36-years-old, of Dryden, Ontario, was re-arrested and charged with an additional Criminal Code offence of Second degree murder s.235(1).

The accused is scheduled to appear by video before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 30, 2020 to answer to this new charge.

Arson Investigation In Clinton

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – An arson investigation is underway in Clinton following an early morning fire that has destroyed a family home. Members from the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit & OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) Unit are currently on scene assisting the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) with the investigation.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2020 Central Huron Fire Department and Huron OPP responded to a single dwelling house fire located on Rattenbury Street West in Clinton. Central Huron Fire Department was able to contain the fire to the property however the home is a considered to be a complete loss and two vehicles that were in the laneway also sustained significant damage.

An estimate on the dollar value of the damages has yet to be determined.

Investigators are seeking tips from the public to help with this investigation.

31 Year Old From Owen Sound Charged After Stolen Transport Truck & Trailer Recovered

(GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On March 24, 2020 at 2:46 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Owen Sound Police Service were dispatched to the theft of a transport truck and trailer from 9th Avenue East, Owen Sound. Officers located the stolen truck jackknifed on Highway 6&10 south of Owen Sound, Georgian Bluffs in Grey County. A witness at the scene observed a person run from the stolen vehicle southbound and gave a description to police. Police patrolled the area and located and arrested the suspect driver on the property of a closed business in the area.

Grey Bruce OPP were assisted by OPP Canine Unit and OPP Emergency Response Team members.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged 31 year old, Justin MONCKTON from Owen Sound, with the following offences,

Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

Fail to Comply with Probation Order, section 733.1(1) CC

Theft of a Motor Vehicle, section 333.1 CC

Possession Break In Instruments, section 351(1) CC

Two counts of Trespassing at Night, section 177 CC

Dangerous Operation, section 320.13(1) CC

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid, section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Fail to Remain, section 200(1)(a) Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

Fail to Report Accident, section 199(1) HTA

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on June 11, 2020.

Stolen Shotgun Recovered – CAREY

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a residential break and enter at a home on Wellington Road 50 in the Town of Erin that occurred on March 13, 2020.

Stolen property included a shotgun, handgun, jewelry, electronics and a coin collection. The home was equipped with a surveillance system which captured the suspect committing the offence and allowed police to later identify them.

On March 25, 2020, the Wellington County OPP Major Crime Unit, the Wellington County OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and the Caledon OPP CSCU executed a Criminal Code Search Warrant at a residence on Benadir Avenue in Caledon. Officers recovered a shotgun, and a coin collection that were stolen in the March 13th break-in. Additional stolen banking documents from another jurisdiction were also recovered.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect was bound by an Officer In Charge Undertaking which included a condition not to possess bank documents that were not obtained lawfully in their name nor did they possess a firearms licence.

As a result, Brandon Adrian CAREY, 26-years-old of Caledon has been charged with:

Break, Enter Dwelling House – Commit Indictable Offence

Unauthorized Possession of Firearm

Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by a Crime

Failure to Comply with Undertaking

Possession of Property Obtained by a Crime Under $5000

The accused was held for a Bail Hearing.

Thieves Targeting High End Bottles of Liquor – Do You Recognize These People?

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reaching out to the public to help crack open a case involving some active professional thieves that have a taste for some very high end liquor and wine.

On March 6, 2020 around 7:42 p.m. two males entered into the LCBO in Goderich and together they proceeded to shoplift four bottles of 42-year-old Whisky and two bottles of 16-year-old Scotch. In total the stolen bottles of liquor are valued at $1,530.

Investigators have since linked the two persons of interest from the Goderich LCBO incident to at least 20 other similar thefts throughout Ontario over the last two years.

Some of the known LCBO locations that have been targeted by this team include: Fergus, Owen Sound, Collingwood, Kingston, Niagara, Parry Sound, Huntsville, Trenton, Ottawa, Guelph, Orangeville and Hawkesbury.

They have been targeting high dollar value scotches, whiskies, champagne and vintage wines.

Person of Interest # 1. A white male, approximately 60 years of age, around 5’7 in height

Stabbing In Meaford

(MEAFORD, ON) – On March 24, 2020 at 8:25 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a domestic dispute at Victoria Street in Meaford. A 44 year old male, with injuries resulting from a knife and a 30 year old, were found inside the residence. OPP officers arrested the 30 year old and the injured male was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 30 year old from Meaford with Aggravated Assault, section 268 Criminal Code of Canada.

Officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault.

The accused was held for a bail hearing in Ontario Court of Justice on March 25, 2020.

Township Of Southgate Ford Fusion Stolen – Plate: #GVAV 362

(SOUTHGATE, ON) – On March 25, 2020 at 8:48 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a theft of a (blue) hybrid Ford Fusion with attached Ontario Licence plates #GVAV 362, from the Southgate Township yard at Grey Road 9. The name Township of Southgate” is printed on both sides of the car.

Sometime during the evening of March 24th and the early morning of March 25th unknown person(s) broke into a building on the property and removed the stolen car.

19 Year Old Drunk Driver In Stolen Vehicle Arrested

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – On March 26, 2020 at 12:38 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a (red) car travelling on Highway 10, south of Grey Road 40, Chatsworth in Grey County at a high rate of speed. The car passed the OPP cruiser and was located a short time later involved in a collision with a ditch on concession Road 2. The airbags in the vehicle had deployed and the occupants had left the collision scene.

The driver was located on foot near an area residence and was arrested. Two other involved males, passengers in the vehicle, were located walking on a nearby rail trail.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged the driver, 19 year old Mathew HEIMBECKER from Haldimand County with the following offences,

Operation while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

Operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), section 320.14(1)(b) CC

Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, section 320.13(1) CC

Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, section 355(a) CC

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on May 28, 2020.

$500,000 Fine For Corporations Violating Emergency Measures and Civil Protection Act

(PETERBOROUGH, ON) – On March 17, 2020 the Government of Ontario declared a State of Emergency which has prompted some members of the public to contact the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Peterborough Police Service to request individuals and businesses/institutions be investigated for non-compliance under the Emergency Measures and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA).

On March 25, 2020 the Government of Canada invoked the Quarantine Act. This requires all travellers returning to Canada – with the exception of what the federal government is calling essential workers” – enter a mandatory 14-day period of isolation

41 Year Old Arrested After Stealing Cart Of Groceries

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Shortly after noon on March 23 2020, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a grocery store located in the Municipality of North Perth when a female stole a full cart of groceries and fled from the store.

Staff at the store noticed the female shopper did not pay for her groceries, but instead proceeded out the exit. She then loaded the groceries into the trunk of a car, and was driven away from the scene. Police were provided with the licence plate of the vehicle and a description of the suspect, and were able to locate the vehicle and suspect shortly after.

Serina Anne RASSMAN, 41, of the Municipality of North Perth, was arrested and charged with:

Theft under $5000 contrary to Section 322(1) of the Criminal Code

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford, at a later date, to answer to the charges.

Police Investigate Plastic Wrap On Bridge

(WEST PERTH, ON) – Between 9:00 p.m. and midnight on Friday, March 20, 2020, a large group of unknown young people put drivers at risk by stringing plastic wrap across the bridge on Road 164 in the Municipality of West Perth.

The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received numerous calls from concerned citizens after vehicles travelling across the bridge drove through the plastic wrap. There were no injuries sustained due to the actions, and no vehicles were damaged. The group had left the scene prior to police arrival, and were last observed walking on Blanchard Street. Police are now seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects.

$70,000 Trailer Stolen

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are investigating the recent theft of a fifth wheel travel trailer that was stolen last week from a property near Whalen Corners.

Sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020 unknown suspects entered onto the Hern Line property and located the travel trailer parked behind a barn. The thieves connected on to the fifth wheel trailer and departed leaving southbound toward Highway 23.

The stolen trailer is described as a tan coloured, 2016 Jayco Northpoint model, fifth wheel travel trailer valued at $70,000.

The stolen trailer is similar to the one pictured below.

Methamphetamine Bust In Mount Forest

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On March 24, 2020 at approximately 3:15 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated an individual on John Street in Mount Forest that was observed walking northbound after exiting the passenger side of a vehicle.

Police recognized them and knew that they were on conditions of a recognizance that included a curfew that they were breaching. The individual was arrested and methamphetamine was seized in a search incident to arrest.

Justin Jeremy LOZON, 33-years-old of Wellington North Township has been charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Failure to Comply with Release Order. The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on May 19, 2020 to answer to the charges on those charges.
