Driver Fails To Stop For Police In Wingham – CULLIGAN

(NORTH HURON, ON) – A West Perth resident is facing a number of driving related charges after he failed to stop for a police officer yesterday afternoon (31Mar) in Wingham.

At approximately 2:38 p.m. on March 31, 2020 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a compact car travelling on John Street in Wingham without licence plates. The officer attempted to pull over the vehicle however the driver immediately hit the gas and failed to stop. The officer did not pursue the dangerous driver however a description of the driver and passenger was obtained.

Within a few minutes another officer spotted the suspects entering into a residence located on Victoria Street. Officers were able to make contact with the suspects and the driver was taken into custody.

Simon CULLIGAN, 36 years of age from West Perth has been charged with Dangerous Operation, Flight From Peace Officer and Drive Motor Vehicle No Plates. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 29, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Trailer Stolen From Chatsworth

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – On March 31, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a stolen recreation trailer from a vacant property at Side Road 1 in Township of Chatsworth.

The trailer, a 2003 Forest River Rockwood 2501 with an attached Ontario Licence Plate #D6757F went missing sometime between March 30th at 7:00 p.m. and March 31st at 12:00 noon. A lock that was securing the trailer hitch was cut off by unknown suspect(s).

Stolen Credit Card Used – HOTCHKISS & RAWN

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report from a victim that had his wallet stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in a municipal parking lot in Mount Forest on March 5, 2020.

The victim was contacted the following day by his credit card/debit card provider regarding suspicious activity on his credit cards and that they were going to be cancelled. The victim was provided with a list of businesses, transaction amounts and times that the stolen credit cards had been used.

Police attended the involved businesses and obtained the video footage of the suspects committing the crimes.

The suspects were known to police and as a result, Ashley Nicole HOTCHKISS, 28-years-old of Wellington North Township and Kellie Ruby Marie RAWN, 24-years-old of Wellington North Township have been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by a Crime Under $5000 and Use of Credit Card (6 Counts each) contrary to the Criminal Code. They are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on May 19, 2020 and May 22, 2020 to answer to the charges.

Magnetic Locator Stolen From Goderich

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the recent theft of a magnetic locator that was stolen in Goderich.

The victim reported sometime between March 17th and March 24, 2020 someone stole the magnetic locator out of his vehicle that was parked on North Street in Goderich. The magnetic locator is commonly used by surveyors to find iron stakes.

The stolen magnetic locator is a Schonstedt model 6A-52Cx valued at approximately $965.

Adult Caught With More Than 30 Grams Of Weed

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On March 28 2020, at approximately 3:30 a.m. the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a motor vehicle on Perth Road 157, in the Municipality of North Perth. While investigating, a quantity of cannabis exceeding 30g was located inside the vehicle.

As a result, Morgan ANDERSON, 29, of Wellington North, was arrested and charged with:

Possession for the Purpose of Distributing, contrary to the Cannabis Act Section 9(2)

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford, at a later date, to answer to the charges.

Fatal ATV Collision – Name Of Deceased Released

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – On April 1, 2020, at approximately 5:40 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services and the Town of Erin Fire Services responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision involving all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on the Eighth Line of Erin south of Wellington Road 124.

Investigation revealed that two ATV’s were travelling northbound when one of the riders lost control of the ATV and it entered the east ditch and collided with several trees.

The rider, Joseph David Corey IOCCO, 45-years-old of Georgetown was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Wellington County OPP along with OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) continue to investigate the collision.

ATV Stolen During Break And Enter In Seaforth

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers continue to investigate a break, enter and theft that occurred west of Seaforth over the weekend.

Sometime between 5:00 p.m. on March 28th, 2020 and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2020 someone forced entry into a trailer located on Harpurhey Road. Once inside the trailer those responsible stole a red 2009 Honda TRX All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) valued at nearly $15,000 along with some protective clothing and a helmet. In addition, a smaller white ATV was stolen along with an orange dirt bike.

The white ATV was recovered a short distance away and the dirt bike was later recovered near Auburn.

Repeat Offender Arrested – Impaired By Drug, Breach

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On March 27, 2020, at approximately 1:40 a.m. a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a sedan on Wellington Road 19 near the Fifth Line in the Township of Centre Wellington.

Police spoke with the driver and determined that they were displaying signs of drug impairment and they were placed under arrest. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Further investigation revealed that the accused was also in contravention of a probation order.

As a result of the investigation, Shyloh Andrew KIRK, 25-years-old of Centre Wellington Township has been charged with Impaired Operation – Drugs and Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on July 28, 2020.

Officer Dragged By Vehicle – 60 Year Old From North Perth Arrested

(PERTH EAST, ON) – A Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was not injured after being dragged by a vehicle during an interaction with a motorist on March 30, 2020.

The officer was assisting with a broken-down vehicle on Perth Line 55 in the Municipality of Perth East, when another motorist arrived and refused to leave the scene. The driver then threatened the officer and attempted to drive away, dragging the officer a short distance. The officer was able gain control of the driver until other OPP members arrived to assist in taking the individual into custody.

Frank CASSEL, 60, of North Perth, has been charged with:

Utter Threats CC 264.1(1)(a)

Obstruct Police CC 129(a)

Assault Peace Officer CC 270(1)(a)

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford, at a later date, to answer to the charges.

OPP Officer Delivers Baby At Roadside

(PERTH EAST, ON) – A Perth County Ontario Police (OPP) officer had an extraordinary traffic stop on the weekend.

On Saturday, March 28 2020, shortly before 4:00 a.m., Provincial Constable Timmermans was patrolling Perth Road 119 in the Municipality of Perth East, when she pulled a vehicle over for speeding. When the officer spoke with the occupants, it was found that the female passenger was currently in labour. PC Timmermans began escorting the couple to hospital, when the vehicle again pulled to the shoulder.

With the assistance of the officer, the baby was delivered at roadside. Perth County EMS arrived shortly after, and both mother and baby are doing well.

OPP Report Two COVID-19 Positive Members

(lONDON, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is confirming two uniform members have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Following the advice of public health authorities, the members are in isolation and are recovering. We wish them a speedy recovery. Their families and colleagues are in our thoughts.

The OPP members work at the Wellington Detachment in southwestern Ontario. The members’ names are being withheld to respect their privacy. The OPP was made aware of the respective diagnoses on March 29 and March 30.

The OPP remains committed to the health and safety of our members and will continue to make decisions that help us limit the spread of COVID-19 in the communities we serve.

Repeat Offender Arrested In Goderich Facing Assault & Weapon Charges – GREEN

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Goderich resident with a variety of criminal offences after police responded to a disturb the peace call in Goderich earlier in March.

Just before 9:00 a.m. on March 21, 2020 Huron OPP officers responded to a Widder Street residence after receiving a call about a male that was observed yelling and shouting at neighbours and demonstrating some all-around unusual behaviour.

Officers responded and spoke with the intoxicated male and cautioned him to return inside the residence. Unbeknownst to the officers upon leaving the scene the accused retrieved an air rifle and pointed it at the officers as they drove away. Further, the accused was observed recklessly pointing the firearm at several neighbouring homes.

Police were called back to the scene and this time the male was placed under arrest and taken into custody.

Kurtis GREEN, 28 years of age from Goderich has been charged with the following offences:

Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

Assault a Peace Officer With a Weapon

Assault With a Weapon

Disturbing the Peace

Mischief Under $5,000

Fail to Comply with Probation Order – 2 counts

He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 1, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Cocaine Bust In Goderich – MCLEAN

(GODERICH, ON) – A traffic stop initiated for an expired validation sticker ended up leading to a much bigger problem for a South Bruce resident this past weekend.

On Sunday, March 29, 2020 at approximately 4:52 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a motor vehicle travelling on Britannia Road East in Goderich with an expired licence plate sticker. The officer attempted to pull over the vehicle however the driver immediately took off and failed to stop for the officer. The officer followed after the vehicle for a short distance and watched as the driver abruptly pulled into a laneway on Gibbons Street.

The driver quickly exited his vehicle where he was immediately confronted by the officer. While speaking with the driver the officer observed cannabis inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted and a quantity of suspected methamphetamine and cocaine was also located.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle was not insured and the validation on the licence plate was expired.

As a result, Jonathan MCLEAN, 37 years of age, from South Bruce has been charged with:

Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

Drive Motor Vehicle, No Validation

Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available

Disobey Stop Sign – Fail to Stop

Flight from Peace Officer

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine

He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 29, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich

Camera Equipment Stolen From Wingham Church

(NORTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers continue to investigate a break, enter and theft that occurred over the weekend in Wingham.

Sometime between 12:00 p.m. on March 28th, 2020 and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2020 someone forced entry into a church located on Josephine Street by smashing out a basement window. Once inside the church the thief entered into the office area where they proceeded to steal numerous items.

Some of the items that were reported as stolen are:

Nikon D90 DSLR Camera and battery

Nikon AF 70 to 200 mm lens

Nikon AF-P 18 to 55 mm lens

Nikon 50 mm lens

Nikon SP600 speed light flash

Nikon SP28 & SP24 speed light flash

Epson projector, power light 1224

Fender Squier base guitar, yellow.

In total the stolen items are estimated to be worth around $6,168.

Duck Decoys Stolen During Break And Enter

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a break, enter and theft to two cabins and shed located off of Clyde Line that took place last week.

Sometime between 8:30 p.m. on March 25th and 8:30 a.m. on March 26, 2020 unknown persons cut the gate lock and entered onto the property. Once on the property those responsible forced entry into two cabins and a storage shed.

The following items were reported as stolen:

A Motomaster Eliminator 1500 W power inverter

Four wooden duck decoys

An upright oscillating fan

An axe with a wooden handle

The total value of the stolen goods is estimated between $300 to $400.
