(HURON EAST, ON) – Members from the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment and West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team are currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that took place earlier this afternoon east of Brussels.

Shortly after 12:38 p.m. Huron OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and Brussels Fire Department responded to the crash scene located at the intersection of Newry Road (Huron County Road #16) and McDonald Line.

The preliminary investigation indicates a sport utility vehicle was eastbound on Newry Road (Huron County Road #16) when the vehicle left the paved portion of the roadway, collided with the ditch and subsequently rolled before it came to rest upright within the intersection.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as Sydney DIETRICH-ILLSLEY, 21 years of age, from Brussels.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Newry Road (Huron County Road #16) is currently closed between Victoria Street in Brussels and Fischer Line to the east. McDonald Line is closed between Brandon Road and Cranbrook Road. Please take an alternate route to avoid delays.

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid several charges in connection with an event that took place at a Clinton car wash last weekend.

At around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2020 a Huron OPP officer responded to a car wash located on Victoria Street in Clinton to investigate a possible stolen pickup that was parked inside one of the car wash bays. Upon arrival officers located two males with the vehicle. One male was outside the vehicle washing it while the other was in the driver’s seat. The suspect outside the vehicle took off on foot running while the driver of the pickup truck accelerated out of the bay and rammed the cruiser causing extensive damage to the cruiser. The officer exited his vehicle and was able to get out of harm’s way while the driver continued ramming the cruiser until he made good on his escape in the stolen truck.

As a result of further investigation officers identified the driver and passenger and were successful in obtaining arrest warrants.

On April 2, 2020 members from the Huron OPP Detachment, OPP West Region Support Team (RST), OPP West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), West Region Canine and OPP Aviation Services attended a property located on Line 34 in Huron East where they arrested the wanted driver without incident.

This is an ongoing investigation, police will provide an update when the co-accused is taken into custody.

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report from a commercial property on Bright Street East, in the Municipality of North Perth, regarding a break and enter and theft that occurred sometime overnight on March 31 2020. During the break and enter, suspects forcibly entered a locked storage shed in a secure compound, and stole copper wire.

During a separate investigation, police executed Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrants at two residences in the Municipality of North Perth in the early morning hours of April 1 2020. While at the residences, police located the recently stolen copper wire.

As a result of this investigation, three people are now facing charges.

Tracy Lynn DOLMAGE, 39, of Listowel, Donald STEPHENS, 51, of Listowel, and Kevin HARPER, 27, of Grand Valley have been charge with:

Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

All of the accused persons have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On April 1, 2020, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huron-Perth Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with the assistance of the Grey-Bruce CSCU, Perth County OPP, London Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), and the West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), executed Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrants at two residences in the Municipality of North Perth. As a result of the search warrants, police seized drugs, cash, and drug trafficking paraphernalia. Police also recovered copper wire, which had been stolen during a break and enter a few hours earlier.

One search warrant was executed at a residence on Argyle Avenue North, Listowel, where four people were arrested. As a result of this investigation, police seized methamphetamine, hydromorphone, drug trafficking paraphernalia, stolen property, and cash, which had a total estimated value of approximately $19,000.

A second search warrant was executed at a residence on Queen Street East, Listowel, where two people were arrested. As a result of this investigation, police seized methamphetamine, hydromorphone, drug trafficking paraphernalia, stolen property, and cash, which had a total value in excess of $18,000.

Donald STEPHENS, 51, of Listowel is charged with:

Possession of methamphetamine for the purposes of trafficking

Possession of hydromorphone

Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Kevin HARPER, 27, of Grand Valley is charged with:

Possession of methamphetamine for the purposes of trafficking

Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

Fail to comply with probation order

All of the accused persons have been released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 35-year-old from Central Huron is facing criminal charges following a traffic stop by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) earlier this week.

On Thursday, April 2, 2020 at approximately 1:15 a.m. Huron OPP officers came across a vehicle parked at the intersection of Shipley Street and Princess Street West. Upon approaching the vehicle officers located a driver passed out behind the wheel with the engine running. Officers woke up the male and while speaking with him they noticed the driver was displaying signs of impairment through a drug. Further observations of the vehicle resulted in officers locating drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

The driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation and was transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for further examination. A Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) conducted a series of tests and the driver was deemed to be impaired by a drug.

Mathew SCHRAEDER, 35 years of age, from Central Huron has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 8, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) encourages businesses and individuals to voluntarily comply with the short-term restrictions introduced by the federal and provincial governments to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Enforcement actions can include offences relating to:

Additionally, police have the authority to arrest those in non-compliance of the federal Quarantine Act at the request of a screening or quarantine officer.

The OPP will continue to provide public safety services to the communities we serve and support the efforts of federal, provincial and local health authorities during the current situation involving COVID-19. MATACHEWAN, ON.) – On February 6, 2020, members of the Crime Unit from the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the Child Exploitation Unit, Forensic Identification Services Unit (FIS), the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), and the North East Regional Support Team responded to a report of Luring in the Town of Matachewan.

As a result of the investigation, William MATHEWS, 29 years-old, from Temiskaming Shores, was arrested on March 31, 2020 and charged with the following:

Luring a Person Under 18 Years of Age by means of Telecommunication, contrary to section 172.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),

Possession of Child Pornography, contrary to section 163.1(4) of the CC, and

Fail to Comply with Prohibition Regarding Children, contrary to section 161(4) of the CC. (Two Counts)

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, on June 4, 2020.

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On April 1, 2020 at 7:12 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a pedestrian involved collision on Durham Street, Kincardine. Officers arrived with Bruce County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to find that the vehicle was gone.

As a result of the investigation, a 57-year-old Kincardine resident was charged with 2 counts of Drive while under Suspension, Fail to Remain and Fail to Yield to Pedestrian.

The pedestrian had minor injuries assessed at the scene.

(WALKERTON, ON) – On April 2, 2020 at 12:55 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a suspicious person that was walking along McGivern Street, Walkerton looking in vehicles. Officers arrived and located the suspicious person who was arrested without incident.

Adam REYNOLDS, 32-years-old, of Arran-Elderslie Township was charged with Theft, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Trespass at Night and Fail to Comply with Probation. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 24, 2020 to answer to the charges.

As a result of the investigation, officers recovered a quantity of property and some loose change.

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Approximately $2500 worth of property was stolen when unknown suspects entered a trailer on a property on Mill Street, Monkton, in the Municipality of North Perth. The break-in occurred sometime overnight on March 28 2020. Items stolen include a laptop, a leather wallet, and money.

The same trailer was entered approximately one month ago, and there were no suspects identified in that incident.

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – On March 31, 2020, at approximately 5:40 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision involving a possible impaired driver on Highway 6 near Wellington Road 22.

Police spoke with the driver and determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Austin WRIGHT, 20-years-old of Arran-Elderslie has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drug and Operation While Impaired – 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on July 31, 2020 to answer to the charges.

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On March 26, 2020, at approximately 3:20 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Wellington Road 7 in Ponsonby. The officer observed a motor vehicle travelling southbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 70 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 135 km/h.

Thangarajah JEYAKUMAR, 53-years-old of Ajax has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice – Provincial Offences Court on July 15, 2020. Their vehicle and driver’s licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break and enter that occurred at a rural property on the Third Line of Guelph-Eramosa Township.

It was reported that sometime during the week prior to March 25, 2020, unknown suspect/s entered an unlocked barn and shed on a property and stole:

2 Bicycles

2 Stihl chainsaws

2 Gas powered pruners

2 Leaf blowers

4 All season tires with rims

Approximate value of loss is $6000.

(MEAFORD, ON) – On March 26, 2020 Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle that was stuck on an open green space at the end of Parker Street West in Meaford. The property is the sight of the Meaford fair grounds and is owned by the Meaford and St. Vincent Agricultural Society. Police attended the property and a female was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Trespassing.

OPP officers have received several complaints reporting that people are purposely driving their vehicles on the property, wrecking the grass and created ruts in the ground.

Grey Bruce OPP will be patrolling the area and if you are found operating your vehicle on the property without permission you will be charged.

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – On March 25, 2020, at approximately 3:25 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a pick-up truck that was stopped in the middle of the road with the engine running and two occupants inside on the Fourth Line near Wellington Road 22.

Police located the vehicle and after several attempts were able to wake the sleeping driver. While interacting with the driver, it was obvious that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were placed under arrest. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Brian FERREIRA, 26-years-old of Mississauga has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drug contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on July 28, 2020 to answer to the charge.
