26 Year Old Caught Going 145 in an 80

(TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) – On May 14, 2020, at approximately 6:30 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Wellington Road 7. The officer observed a motor vehicle travelling southbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 145 km/h.

Tye Wayne PITMAN, 26-years-old of Clifford has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice – Provincial Offences Court in July, 2020. Their vehicle and driver’s licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

Suspended Driver With Cocaine Facing Impaired Charge – Donald FERGUSON

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A traffic stop early this morning near Amberley has resulted in Impaired Operation charges and then some for a Kincardine resident.

Just before 1:00 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a pickup truck that was travelling southbound on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway (Highway 21) from Amberley. Upon stopping the vehicle the investigating officer recognized the driver and was aware that he was driving with a suspended driver’s licence. As such the driver was placed under arrest for driving while under suspension.

Additionally, the investigating officer noted the driver was displaying signs of impairment thus a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted. The driver performed poorly and was arrested for Impaired Operation. A search incident to arrest revealed the driver to be in possession of a quantity of suspected cocaine.

The accused was transported to the Sebringville OPP Detachment for subsequent testing conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). Ultimately it was deemed the driver was indeed impaired by a drug.

Donald FERGUSON, 51 years of age from Kincardine has been charged with Impaired Operation, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine and Drive While Under Suspension. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 13, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Repeat Offender With Methamphetamine Arrested In Listowel – MORRIS

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid a drug charge after a bicycle was stopped in Listowel.

A police officer conducting patrols in Listowel located a person riding a bicycle without a light on Argyle Avenue North, just after 9:00 p.m. on May 8 2020. During the investigation, it was revealed that the operator of the bicycle had an outstanding warrant for their arrest. They were placed under arrest, and a search revealed that they were in possession of methamphetamine.

As a result, Josey-Ann MORRIS, 37 of North Perth, has been charged with:

Possession of a Schedule I substance – Methamphetamine

Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Do You Recognize This Theft Suspect?

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On May 19, 2020 the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft occurrence at a business on AlmaStreet in Rockwood.

Investigation revealed that at approximately 10:30 a.m. the suspect entered the business posing as a customer and entered the office area and stole a black IPhone and approximately $1000 in cash from an unlocked safe.

Surveillance footage captured the theft.

The suspect was last seen fleeing in a Red Mazda 3 Hatchback travelling eastbound on Highway 7.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, mid-late 20’s, approximately 6 feet in height, slim build, hair shaved on the side and wearing a black and white hoodie.

Stolen Property Recovered – Repeat Offender Arrested – KOSTAL

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On May 19, 2020 the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged an individual involved in an April 11, 2020 break and enter that occurred in Southgate Township. Information was received that the break and enter suspect was attempting to sell the stolen property including a cross-bow in the Town of Mount Forest.

As a result, Gordon William KOSTAL, 38-years-old of Wellington North Township has been charged with Possession of a Property Obtained by Under $5000 X2, Trafficking in Stolen Goods Under $5000, Failure to Comply with Release Order and Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Police have recovered some of the stolen property, however, some of the items including firearms remain outstanding.

29 Year Old From North Huron Arrested In Clinton – Mellisa BELL

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a North Huron resident with Impaired Operation and Driving with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Over 80 following a traffic stop that took place early this morning.

At approximately 12:38 a.m. on May 20, 2020 Huron OPP officers were patrolling in Clinton when they came across a vehicle with an expired licence plate sticker on Princess Street.

Officers followed the vehicle and a traffic stop was conducted. While speaking with the driver officers noted the driver to be displaying signs that she was impaired by alcohol. As a result the driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation. Soon after she was transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of her breath were provided to the intoxilizer technician and both samples were analyzed to be over the legal limit.

Mellisa BELL, 29 years of age, from North Huron has been charged with Operation While Impaired & Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 10, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. Her motor vehicle was impounded and her driver’s licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.

Prohibited Driver Caught Again – Shane CLARKE

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A 47-year-old from Exeter is facing charges after he was caught going out for a drive this past weekend when he shouldn’t have been.

At approximately 7:10 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed the accused operating a sport utility vehicle on Edward Street in Exeter. The officer had knowledge the accused was prohibited from driving so a traffic stop was initiated.

Upon checking on the licence status of the driver it was learned the accused was currently serving five criminal code driving suspensions as well as a provincial suspension. Further investigation revealed the accused was operating the vehicle with licence plates not authorized for the vehicle and without insurance.

Shane CLARKE, 47 years of age from Exeter has been charged with Operation While Prohibited (five counts), Driving While Under Suspension, Use Plates Not Authorized for Vehicle and Operate a Motor Vehicle on a Highway – No Insurance.

He has a court date scheduled for August 20, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter.

Josephine Street Collision Ends With Assault Charge

(NORTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid criminal charges against a North Huron resident following a domestic assault investigation that took place over the weekend.

Just before 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2020 Huron OPP officers responded to an automobile crash located on Josephine Street in Wingham. The subsequent investigation revealed a domestic assault occurred, as well, it also revealed the accused was operating his vehicle in a dangerous manner.

A 36-year-old North Huron resident has been charged with Assault & Dangerous Operation. The accused has since been released from custody with a court date scheduled for later this summer.

Waving Firearm In Mount Forest Ends With Arrest Of Spencer Charles LOVELL

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On May 18, 2020 at approximately 6:20 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a suspicious person waving a firearm on Main Street in Mount Forest.

Officers located the individual that matched the description and found them to be carrying a sawed off pellet gun under their jacket. The individual was taken into custody and the weapon was seized.

Spencer Charles LOVELL, 21-years-old of Wellington North Township has been charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Carrying a Concealed Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on July 31, 2020 to answer to the charges.

Stolen Firearm Recovered – Daniel JAMES Facing Several Charges

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged an Exeter resident with several offences connected to a break, enter and theft that took place in Exeter last week.

On Friday, May 15, 2020 the victim reported to police someone entered into his Saunders Street home and stole a rifle along with some ammunition. As it turned out police had received a call earlier in the day from a witness that reported seeing someone walking down Victoria Street West with a rifle and a box of ammunition. At that point in time the suspect was spoken to however he denied any knowledge of the firearm.

Following some additional investigation police returned and spoke with the suspect. This time the suspect was arrested and a search was conducted. The stolen rifle and ammunition were recovered.

Daniel JAMES, 23 years of age, from Exeter has been charged with Break & Enter, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for May 19, 2020.

Huron OPP would like to remind firearms owners that it is their legal duty and responsibility to safely and securely store firearms and ammunition in their possession.

61 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving In Clinton

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A traffic stop in Clinton this past weekend by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has resulted in charges being laid against Clinton resident.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2020 a Huron OPP officer observed a car being driven in an aggressive manner in Clinton thus it prompted the officer to initiate a traffic stop.

The car was stopped on King Street in Clinton and upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver. In addition the officer spied an open can of beer in the console.

A roadside screening test was completed and the driver registered a fail. As a result the driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation and was transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. The driver provided two samples of her breath to the intoxilizer technician and both test were analyzed to be over the legal limit.

Patricia SANDERSON, 61 years of age, from Clinton has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus and Drive Motor Vehicle With Liquor Readily Available. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 6, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. Her motor vehicle was impounded and her driver’s licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.

40 Year Old Arrested Following Near Collision With Cruiser

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an Exeter resident with Driving with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Over 80 following a traffic stop conducted by police last Friday.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2020 a Huron OPP officer was patrolling northbound on Main Street in Exeter when the officer encountered a car that crossed the center line and into the path of the officer. Fortunately a crash was avoided however upon speaking with the driver the officer detected the odour of alcohol coming from the driver.

A roadside screening test was completed and the driver registered a fail. As a result the driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation and was transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 23, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter. His motor vehicle was impounded and his driver’s licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.

Body Of Missing 20 Year Old Recovered – Name Released

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On May 17, 2020, at approximately 4:45 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible drowning at the Elora Gorge of the Grand River Conservation Authority on Wellington Road 18, Elora. It was reported that a 20-year-old male was swimming and went under the water but failed to resurface. The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (U.S.R.U.) attended the scene and recovered the body of the missing male.

The deceased has been identified as John Daniel HOWELL, 20-years-old of Amherstburg, Ontario.

Police continue to investigate.

20 Year Old Swimmer Missing

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On May 17, 2020, at approximately 4:45 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible drowning at the Elora Gorge of the Grand River Conservation Authority on Wellington Road 18, Elora. It was reported that a 20-year-old male was swimming and went under the water but failed to resurface.

OPP, Centre Wellington Fire Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service responded but could not locate the missing individual. The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (U.S.R.U.) have been contacted. Police continue to investigate.

Fatal Collision Near Listowel Update – Name Of 21 Year Old Deceased Released

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a single vehicle collision near Listowel that has resulted in a fatality.

At approximately 11:35 a.m. on May 17 2020, Perth County OPP, Perth County Paramedic Services and North Perth Fire Department responded to a collision involving a motorcycle located on Line 87, just east of Road 176.

West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team members are assisting with the collision investigation.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has since been identified as Jordan Sinclair HILL, 21 years of age, from North Perth.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

The road has since re-opened.
