Passed Out 19 Year Old Facing Drunk Driving Charge

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On June 17, 2020 at approximately 1:00 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call involving a vehicle stopped in the live lane with the driver passed out behind the wheel and the engine running on Side Road 4 near the Second Line in Centre Wellington Township.

Police arrived at the scene and determined that the driver had alcohol in their body. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Jeremy James SWANSTON, 19-years-old of Elora has been charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired – 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on July 24, 2020 to answer to the charges.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Fatal Collision Update

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in relation to the May 1, 2020 fatal motor vehicle collision that involved a pick-up truck and two motorcycles on Wellington Road 19 at the Sixth Line of Centre Wellington Township. The motorcycles were travelling eastbound followed by the pick-up truck when the collision occurred.

John BOTT, 65-years-old of Nichol Township died as a result of the collision and a second motorcycle operator received non-life-threatening injuries and was later released from the hospital.

Albert GILES, 57-years-old of Fergus has been charged with Careless Driving – Cause Death and Careless Driving – Cause Bodily Harm contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Provincial Offences court – Guelph on September 2, 2020 to answer to the charges.

Cement Truck Vs Employee Collision

(PERTH EAST, ON) – One person was injured at a road construction site after a collision involving a cement mixer and an employee.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m. on June 22 2020, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County Paramedic Services, and the Ministry of Labour (MOL) were called to the location in Perth East where crews were working on the roadway. The investigation revealed that the arm of a cement mixer struck a worker as it was moving along. The employee was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries.

No charges were laid as a result of the investigation.

Suspended Driver Caught Again In Listowel – ZWICKER

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – One person has been charged with numerous offences after a traffic stop of a motorcycle in the Municipality of North Perth.

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. on June 22 2020, a member of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) noticed a motorcycle driving without a rear light or licence plate on Wallace Avenue North, in Listowel. A traffic stop was conducted, and it was determined that the driver was suspended from driving, and there was no insurance on the vehicle.

As a result, Andrew ZWICKER, 47 of Orillia, has been arrested and charged with:

Drive without proper rear light – Motorcycle

Drive motor vehicle – Improper Licence

Drive motor vehicle – No Plates

Driving while Under Suspension

Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Impaired Driver Arrested Near Listowel – SMITH

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On June 21 2020, just before 1:30 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle as it travelled along Highway 23, north of Listowel, in the Municipality of North Perth.

During the course of the investigation, officers formed the opinion that the driver had consumed alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

Alyssa Jane SMITH, 26, of Halton Hills, has been charged with:

Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

22 Year Old Caught Going 120 in a 60

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On June 23, 2020 at 7:29 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a northbound (black) sport utility vehicle (suv) for excessive speed in the Town of Wiarton.

This suv was travelling over 120 kilometres per hour (km/h) in the posted 60 km/h speed limit.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged the driver, Kumar SANKET, 22 years-of-age from Niagara Falls, ON with stunt driving – 50km/h or more over posted speed limit, contrary to section 172(1) Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

This driver was served a summons to attend court, issued a 7 day drivers licence suspension and the vehicle that was being operated was towed and will be impounded for 7 days.

Seagull Dispute Ends With Spitting & Arrest

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On June 22, 2020 at 8:11 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a residence at Frank Street in Wiarton, ON for a dispute between two neighbours over feeding seagulls.

After a verbal argument, the accused spit in the victim’s face and stepped on their foot.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Donald BOWERS, 58 years old from Wiarton, ON with assault, section 266 Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is required to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on August 27, 2020.

Stolen Tractor Recovered In Listowel

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are looking for witnesses after a stolen tractor was recovered in the Municipality of North Perth.

Perth County OPP were made aware of the tractor, located at a parking lot on Elizabeth Street East, between Maitland Avenue and Nichol Avenue North, on Saturday, June 20 2020. The investigation has revealed that the tractor had been abandoned at the location on Wednesday, June 17 2020, shortly after it was stolen from a business Wellington County.

Repeat Offender Arrested In Goderich For Arson

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid an Arson charge in connection with a fire discovered yesterday afternoon at the popular Maitland Woods trail system.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on June 22, 2020 Huron OPP officers received a call from a concerned hiker in the Maitland Woods reporting someone had started a fire in the Maitland Woods located off of Parsons Court. Officers responded to the area and located the accused sitting by the medium sized fire he had started. The accused was found to be burning foliage and downed tree branches in a reckless manner.

The accused was arrested and taken into custody without incident. Goderich Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire.

Aaron WEDGE, 29 years of age of no fixed address has been charged with:

Arson – Damage to Property

Fail to Comply with Probation Order – Two Counts

Fail to Comply with Release Order – Two Counts

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 31, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Property Stolen From Barn

TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, ON) – On June 18, 2020 at approximately 10:00 a.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter into a barn located on Lakeside Drive in Puslinch Township.

It was reported that sometime overnight unknown suspects gained entry into the barn and stole over $10,000 worth of property including an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), tools and small engines.

Test Drive Ends With Theft Of Vehicle Charge

(GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On June 19, 2020 at 3:16 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a residence at Highway 6, in the Township of Georgian Bluffs, Ontario.

The caller had given permission to an acquaintance to take his sport utility vehicle for a test drive, as they were attempting to sell it. The vehicle was to be returned to the residence in a few hours. After two days and several attempts to locate this driver, the vehicle was reported stolen.

As a result of this investigation, the Grey Bruce OPP have charged Adriana QUANN, 31 years old from Arran-Elderslie, ON with Theft of a motor vehicle (over $5,000), section 334(a) Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is required to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on August 20, 2020.

Driver Caught Going 70+ Over Speed Limit – BEHIWAL

(WEST PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver after they were speeding more than 70km/h over the limit in West Perth on the weekend.

On June 20 2020, just before 3:00 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Line 20, in the Municipality of West Perth, after it was found to be travelling in excess of 150km/h in an 80km/h zone.

As a result, Gurdeep Singh BEHIWAL, 27, of Brampton, has been charged with:

Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

A seven day driving suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Fatal Collision Update – OPP Lay Careless Driving Cause Death Charge

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Central Huron resident with Careless Driving Causing Death in connection with a motor vehicle collision that took place in May of this year.

On May 13, 2020 at approximately 1:40 p.m. Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and Huron East Fire Department responded to the crash scene located at the intersection of North Line (Huron County #12) and Hydro Line Road.

The subsequent investigation by members of the Huron OPP Detachment and West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team has determined the defendant was travelling northbound on North Line in a sport utility vehicle when the driver collided with a motorcycle that was stopped attempting to turn left onto Hydro Line Road. The driver of the motorcycle, 76-year-old, Allan COHOE from Burgessville died as a result of the collision.

On Saturday, June 20, 2020 Huron OPP charged Juliana BUFFINGA, 45 years of age from Central Huron with Careless Driving Causing Death. The defendant has a scheduled court appearance on August 18, 2020 at Provincial Offences Court in Goderich.

Grass Trimmer Attack – Deanne THOMPSON Arrested

(MEAFORD, ON) – On June 19th, 2020 at 8:38 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a neighbour dispute at Victoria Street in the Municipality of Meaford.

OPP officers attended and located a person who had sustained minor injuries to his abdomen as a result of being contacted by a grass trimmer.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Deanne THOMPSON, 31 years old from Meaford, ON with Assault with a weapon, section 267(a) Criminal Code of Canada.

Suspended Driver Caught Again – Michele SICILIA

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged another driver after they were caught driving while their licence was suspended.

Just before 3:30 a.m. on June 20 2020, a member of the Perth County OPP on general patrol observed a vehicle fail to stop completely at a stop sign on Road 146 in the Municipality of North Perth.

Upon speaking with the driver, it was discovered that their licence had been suspended.
