(HURON EAST, ON) – On Thursday, August 20, 2020 at approximately 10:20 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Huron County Paramedic Services and Seaforth Fire Department responded to a call for assistance at an Egmondville property located at the corner of Kippen Road and Stapleton Avenue.

A contractor was working at a vacant lot when an excavated area collapsed around the victim trapping the victim in a deep trench.

The victim was quickly freed from the pile of dirt and was rushed to hospital.

A 64-year-old victim remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Ministry of Labour has been notified to assist with this investigation.

(PERTH EAST, ON) – One person was seriously injured after a collision on Line 34 last weekend.

Just after 7:00 p.m. on Friday August 14 2020, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Stratford Police Service, Perth County Paramedics and the Perth East Fire Department responded to a two vehicle collision on Line 34 near Road 125, just east of Sebringville.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a pick-up truck with trailer was travelling eastbound on Line 34, and stopped at Road 125 waiting to turn northbound. A Sport Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.), also travelling eastbound, collided with the back of the truck and trailer.

The lone occupant of the S.U.V, a 37 year old St. Marys resident, sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and as a result was transported to hospital via Ornge Air Ambulance.

(BLUEWATER, ON) – On Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at approximately 11:21 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Huron County Paramedic Services and Hensall Fire Department responded to an industrial accident that occurred at a feed mill located on Nelson Street in Hensall.

Two employees were injured when a skid fell on them.

Both have been transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The Ministry of Labour has been contacted to assist with this investigation.

(RIPLEY, ON) – On August 16, 2020 at 11:37 p.m., a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol stopped a vehicle along Huron Street in Ripley. The officer located a quantity of drugs in the vehicle and both occupants were charged.

Angela DRUMMOND, 57-years-old, of Kincardine was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on October 28, 2020 to answer to the charge.

Kurtis MACDONALD, 27-years-old, of Kincardine was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation. The accused was held in custody pending the results of a show cause hearing scheduled for August 17, 2020.

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On August 16th, 2020 at 12:08 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a disturbance at a restaurant on Bruce Street in Hepworth, ON.

A group of young adults, who were at the restaurant, were confronted by two older adults and they argued. The situation escalated to physical violence and one person was punched, resulting in minor injuries to the victim. The fight ended and the older males drove away from the restaurant. The licence plate was provided to police.

Police located and stopped this involved vehicle on Highway 10 in Grey Highlands, ON.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Christopher PALMER, 41 years-of-age, from Scarborough, ON with assault, section 266, Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and must appear in Ontario Court of Justice on October 27, 2020.

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On Tuesday August 18, 2020 at 08:07 a.m. an alert citizen contacted the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to advise that he observed two males entering multiple vehicles and a sea container on a property located on Dundas St. in the Municipality of Thames Centre. The males were also observed throwing items at passing motor vehicles causing a traffic hazard, before they fled the scene in a suspicious SUV.

Members of the Middlesex OPP responded to the area where the vehicle was later located at a gas station in Thamesford. One male was taken into custody at the scene and a second fled the area on foot. The second male was taken into custody by police a short time later.

As a result of an investigation police have charged Jeffrey AVERILL – age 44- of London, ON with:

Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence as per section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)

Possession Break In Instruments as per section 351(1) of the CC

Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court as per section 145(5)(a) of the CC

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin) as per section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA)

Permit use of plate not authorized for vehicle as per section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner as per section 11(2) of the HTA

Permit operation of unsafe vehicle as per section 84 of the HTA

CAIA 2(1)(b) Permit motor vehicle to be operated without insurance as per section 2(1)(b) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA)

Police have also charged Wade BOUDREAU – age 44- of London ON with:

Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence as per section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)

Possession Break In Instruments as per section 351(1) of the CC

Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court as per section 145(5)(a) of the CC

Both parties have been released from police custody and are scheduled to appear in the London, Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges, on October 30, 2020.

Police want to remind the public that thief’s are always looking for an easy target.

Along with securing your property, always make sure to:

Record the make, model and serial numbers of your items in case they are stolen.

If you are a victim of a theft, report it to the police and provide the serial numbers, this information can be helpful in locating or recovering the property.

If there is no serial number, creating unique marks or engravings on the item can be helpful when identifying your property.

Use motion detectors, lights and vehicle alarms, which can be a deterrent to those responsible for committing thefts of vehicles or thefts from vehicles.

Conduct a walk around of your property to ensure that all exterior lighting is working property. If it is broken make the necessary repairs.

Complete repairs to damaged property including windows and fences. Show that you have pride in your property and care what happens to it.

If you have a home security system, always use it. Contact your system provider to ensure that all emergency contacts are up to date with current phone numbers and dependable people who will respond when called.

Be a good neighbour, share information and look out for each other’s property.

Be sure to report any suspicious activity or incidents to police immediately. Your information may help to interrupt a potential crime, help to identify a crime trend, suspect, or prevent further crimes.

(HOWICK, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are currently on scene of a two-vehicle crash west of Harriston that has resulted in a fatality.

This morning, shortly after 6:30 a.m., Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Wellington County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and Howick Fire Department responded to the crash scene located on Harriston Road (Huron County #87) near Howick-Minto Townline.

The initial investigation indicates two pickup trucks collided head-on.

One driver was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and one driver died at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as Brandon COX, 24 years of age, from Clifford.

Investigators from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team are currently on scene assisting with the collision investigation.

Harriston Road (Huron County #87) is currently closed between Malcolm Line and School Road #7. Motorists are asked to take an alternate route to avoid the collision scene.

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On August 9, 2020, at approximately 12:45 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. program at the intersection of Speedvale Avenue West and Woolwich-Guelph Townline when officers investigated the driver of a pick-up truck that entered into the checkpoint.

Police spoke with the driver and detected an odour of alcohol on their breath. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Perry Douglas BUTT, 50-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on September 8, 2020 to answer to the charge.

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On August 13, 2020 at approximately 3:50 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Highway 6 near Side Road 6. The officer observed a silver northbound motor vehicle travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 155 km/h.

The vehicle continued northbound with speeds fluctuating between 180-190 km/h as it approached Fergus. The driver shut the vehicle lights off and drove erratically thru a plaza parking lot at the south end of town. The vehicle stopped abruptly and the driver fled from the vehicle. A brief foot chase ensued prior to the driver being taken into custody.

Police detected an odour of alcohol and the driver’s breath while speaking with them. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a warn reading.

Donovan Thomas FISCHER, 21-years-old of Fergus has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle and B.A.C. Above Zero contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Dangerous Driving and Flight From Police contrary to the Criminal Code.

The defendant is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on October 13, 2020 to answer to the charges.

The vehicle and driver’s licence were seized as per statute.

TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) – On August 13, 2020 at approximately 1:25 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a theft report that occurred at a business located on Wellington Road 86 in the Town of Wallenstein, Township of Mapleton.

It was reported that sometime between July 31 and August 13, 2020 unknown suspects entered onto the property and stole a blue 2020 New Holland Boomer 40 tractor with a front loader attached. Approximate value $36,000.

Officers located the vehicle and while speaking with the driver determined that they had consumed alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Joshua FOY, 25-years-old of Erin has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on September 15, 2020.

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – On August 15, 2020, at approximately 7:40 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single motor vehicle collision on the Eighth Line in the Town of Erin. It was reported that a pick-up truck was southbound when it left the roadway and collided with some trees. A passerby witnessed the vehicle being driven out of the ditch and called police.

Officers located the vehicle that was heavily damaged and while speaking with the driver determined that they had consumed alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – An initial investigation into the sound of a gunshot being heard ultimately led to three people facing charges, a large quantity of methamphetamine being seized and a stolen truck recovered.

The events took place on August 7, 2020 at approximately 1:22 p.m. when Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a James Street residence in Dungannon to investigate a report of a gunshot being heard.

Officers arrived on scene shortly thereafter and through the course of their investigation they were able to determine the sound heard was from a firecracker. Also while investigating police became suspicious of a pickup truck that was in the process of getting a new paint job. A check by police revealed the 2012 pickup truck was stolen from Oxford County in July and the attached licence plates were reported stolen out of South Bruce.

Also while at the property police located and arrested a male for failing to abide by his conditions of his house arrest. Upon searching the accused police located a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine on his person.

Christopher KURTH, 35 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and Under $5,000. As well, he has been charged with Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

Angela BAILEY, 39 years of age from Goderich has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and Under $5,000.

Both KURTH & BAILEY have since been released from custody with court dates scheduled for October 19, 2020.

Jeffrey STRAUGHAN, 40 years of age from Goderich has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purposes of Trafficking, Fail to Comply with Release Order (2 counts) and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 20, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a break, enter and theft that took place at a chip wagon in Goderich.

Sometime between 9:00 p.m. on August 10, 2020 and 6:00 a.m. on August 11, 2020 someone forced entry into the chip wagon located at the Main Beach in Goderich. Once inside the truck the thief stole about $500 worth of beverages and food items.

About $500 in damages were also caused by the thief.

Huron OPP officers are seeking information from the public to help solve this crime.

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On August 14, 2020 at 11:09 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving a possible impaired driver that had just left a campground in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.

Police patrolled the area, located and stopped this vehicle on Highway 6, near Cameron Lake Road. The driver was displaying signs of impairment, was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and was transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Wiarton. A breath test, conducted by a qualified Intoxilyzer operator at the detachment, recorded readings nearly twice the legal limit (80 mgs of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood).

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Justin BROWN, 31 years-of-age, from Sarnia, ON with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CC) and operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CC.

The accused’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and will be impounded for seven days.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is required to attend Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 22, 2020.
