(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On April 12, 2020 at 1:03 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called for a traffic complaint involving a (grey) Pick-up truck driving erratically on Highway 6 north of Springmount, in Grey County.

OPP officers observed the vehicle in Hepworth and the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed away from police. The vehicle was located a short time later in the ditch area at Grey Bruce Line, south of Alvanley, in the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie. The suspects in the vehicle fled the scene on foot.

Grey Bruce OPP were assisted by OPP Canine, OPP Emergency Response Team members and South Bruce OPP officers. The four occupants of the vehicle were located by OPP Canine and arrested.

(LUCKNOW, ON) – On April 10, 2020 at 9:00 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a situation along Gough Street in Lucknow.

As a result of the ongoing incident, Jason DEBOER, 43-years-old, of Huron-Kinloss Township was arrested for Assault, Utter Threats and 4 counts of Fail to Comply with Probation by members of the West Region OPP Tactical Rescue Unit (TRU).

The accused was held in custody pending the result of a bail hearing.

The road closure is no longer in effect.

This was an isolated incident.

(TOWNSHIP OF NORTH WELLINGTON, ON) – On April 8, 2020 at approximately 2:55 p.m. a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a motor vehicle on Main Street in Mount Forest for a number of Highway Traffic Act violations.

Investigation revealed that the driver was contravening three separate driving suspensions and that the vehicle was uninsured and was bearing plates not authorized to be on it.

As a result, Alexander Melvin TROUP, 43-years-old of Southgate Township has been charged with Operation While Prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code, Driving Under Suspension X2, Use Plates Not Authorized For Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Operate Motor Vehicle – No Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph – on July 31, 2020 to answer to the charges.

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – Today at approximately 8:50 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police along with Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services and Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue responded to a workplace accident at the Grand River Raceway located on Wellington Road 21 in Elora.

A 41-year-old individual was injured while working in a trench when the bank collapsed. The victim was transported by land ambulance to a local hospital and later airlifted by Onge to a trauma hospital with serious injuries.

The Wellington County OPP along with the Ministry of Labour (MOL) continue to investigate.

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – On April 2, 2020, at approximately 9:25 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a motor vehicle on Wellington Road 6 in the Town of Minto that was travelling at a slow speed, crossing the centre line and that did not have the headlights properly activated.

Police spoke to the driver and determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were placed under arrest. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Thomas MACDONALD, 65-years-old of the Town of Minto has been charged with Impaired, Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code and Drive Without Proper Headlights contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA). A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on July 31, 2020 to answer to the charge.

(TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a firearms related call at a residence on Wellington Road 10 in the Township of Mapleton.

It was reported that the victim was outside residence doing yard work when they heard someone yell at them from the road. When they turned around they saw a passenger in a vehicle pointing a firearm directly at them out the window. The vehicle was described as a white Mazda and was last seen travelling westbound on Wellington Road 10.

Officers patrolled the area and located the vehicle and occupants at a residence on Wellington Road 10. The firearm, which was an airsoft revolver was seized and the suspect was placed under arrest.

Willy Braun, BUECKERT, 18-years-old of Mapleton Township has been charged with Adult Pointing a Firearm, Adult Possession of a Weapon For a Dangerous Purpose and Adult Assault with a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on July 28, 2020 to answer to the charges.

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On April 4, 2020 at approximately 12:15 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a suspicious vehicle on Jones Baseline in Guelph-Eramosa Township. It was reported that the gate leading into the Mustang Drive-In Theatre was busted open and a lime green flatbed truck was on the property.

Investigation revealed that the truck was stolen out of Meaford and at the time of the theft, there was a Kubota excavator on the platform, however, the excavator is still outstanding.

(KINGSTON, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad has seized a drone near Collins Bay Institution in Kingston.

On April 8, 2020 at approximately 8:30 p.m., members of the Penitentiary Squad, Kingston Police Service and Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) responded to suspicious activity near the penitentiary.

An officer observed a drone caught in a tree along Arbour Street. The investigation revealed that the drone was on its way back from the Institution. The drone was removed from the tree with the assistance of Utilities Kingston.

The investigation remains ongoing with members of the OPP-led Joint-Forces Penitentiary Squad, which includes the Kingston Police and CSC, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – On April 7, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a break and enter into a business at Hwy 10, north of Markdale in Grey County. Several items were taken from the business, along with a wheelbarrow.

At the scene the owner of the business pointed out to OPP officers a single tire track leading away from the scene. The wheelbarrow tire track was followed to a neighbouring residence. Officers obtained a warrant to search the neighbouring property and residence and located the stolen items.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 52 year old, Jamie DECKER from Chatsworth with Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence, section 348(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CC) and Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, section 354(1)(a) CC.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is required to attend Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on June 11, 2020.

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) urge local businesses to verify who they’re dealing with before conducting remote or online sales.

Police have seen recent instances of identity theft which are then used to target automotive dealerships. This results in the dealerships being the victim of Card-Not-Present (CNP) Frauds.

The fraudsters contact a dealership to place an order to purchase over the phone, by email or on their website, or online sales platforms. The suspects use counterfeit driver’s licences to complete the transactions, obtaining further credit, financing, and insurance with this fraudulent identification.

The scammers then request delivery of the vehicles to a public location in a parking lot and this is completed by the dealerships.

The real victims of the identity theft eventually receive notification of the vehicle or insurance purchases, unlawful charges, and acquired financing, and have to dispute the activity.

As a result, the business receives a chargeback and is responsible for paying back the amount charged on the stolen card, which can be a significant loss to the business.

Here are some tips to protect your business:

Confirm the purchaser’s identity with more than one valid photo government Identification in person at point of sale and delivery of vehicle

Confirm signatures in person with valid government identification at point of sale and delivery of vehicle

Carefully examine the identification produced for discrepancies and compare to valid sources

Confirm / request insurance information

Watch for orders made using different names, addresses and card numbers but are from a single IP (Internet Protocol) address

Prior to shipping merchandise, take steps to verify the information provided by the customer (telephone number, email address, shipping address etc.)

Be aware of orders from repeat customers that differ from regular spending patterns

Ensure security measures are established within your business to prevent victimization and reduce unwanted chargebacks

Businesses who accept Card Not Present orders can help avoid fraud by using the automated verification tools supported by their acquirer and the payment associations.

(TOWNSHIP OF ERIN, ON) – On April 4, 2020, at approximately 6:35 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor collision on Wellington Road 125 near Wellington Road 124 in the Town of Erin.

Investigation revealed that the motor vehicle was southbound when the driver lost control and entered the west ditch.

Police spoke with the driver and determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired and they were placed under arrest. They were transported to an OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

John DIXON, 52-years-old of Georgetown has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on July 28, 2020 to answer to the charge.

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – On April 2, 2020, at approximately 8:45 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a motor vehicle on Wellington Road 7 near the First Line for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) violation.

Police spoke to the driver and determined that they were under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device test (ASD) was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to an OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Logan John Allen MACDONALD, 31-years-old of Alnwick-Haldimond Township has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on July 31, 2020 to answer to the charge.

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On April 5, 2020, at approximately 8:50 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Wellington Road 7 in the Township of Centre Wellington. The officer observed a motor vehicle travelling southbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 148 km/h.

Zakaria ABDULLAH, 21-years-old of Etobicoke has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice – Provincial Offences Court on July 15, 2020. Their vehicle and driver’s licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A 61-year-old from Port Albert is now without a vehicle and a driver’s licence for the week following a traffic stop that was conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) earlier this week.

Just before 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 a Huron OPP officer was conducting RADAR patrol on Nile Road when a sport utility vehicle was observed travelling westbound at a high rate of speed. The officer activated the RADAR device and measured the speed of the target vehicle at a rate in excess of 60 km/h over the 80 km/h posted speed limit.

A traffic stop ensued and the driver was subsequently charged. Linda BIRKS, 61 years of age from Port Albert has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle. The defendant will now have to attend Provincial Offences Court in Goderich on June 16, 2020 to answer to the charge. Their vehicle and driver’s licence were both seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a resident of Goderich with Driving Under Suspension following a traffic stop that took place in Goderich yesterday afternoon (08April).

At approximately 3:30 p.m. a Huron OPP officer initiated a traffic stop on Cambridge Street. The driver provided his name to the officer however the officer had suspicions the name was a false name. Further investigation was conducted which revealed the driver had indeed provided a false name. Upon learning the true identity of the driver police learned he was wanted on outstanding warrants. In addition, police learned he was driving while under suspension.

Corey PROUSE, 41 years of age, from Goderich was charged with Driving While Under Suspension. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 6, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
