Stolen Pickup Recovered In Goderich

(HURON EAST & GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to investigate a theft of a pickup truck that was stolen and subsequently recovered this past weekend.

On Saturday, April 11, 2020 suspects attended a McNabb Line property whereupon one of the suspects got out of a Ford 250 pickup truck and entered onto the victim’s property. The suspect then located an unlocked 2017 Chevrolet Silverado in the laneway with the ignition key inside.

The thieves then took off and were last seen travelling heading northbound on McNabb Line. A day later police were called to the high school in Goderich where they located the pickup truck abandoned in the school parking lot.

Two Charged For Unlawful Gathering Under EMCPA

(LEAMINGTON, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Essex County has charged two individuals in separate incidents under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA).

On April 9, 2020 Leamington detachment officers responded to two separate reports of gatherings of more than five people at residences on Wigle Street and Satinwood Crescent. Through investigation it was determined that a number of persons present at each location were not residents of that address. As a result, two Leamington residents have been charged with the following offence:

Failing to Comply with an Order Made during a Declared Emergency.

The government has enacted an Emergency Order under the EMCPA to prohibit the following:

an organized public event of more than five (5) people, including a parade;

a social gathering of more than five (5) people; or

a gathering of more than five (5) people for the purposes of conducting religious services, rites or ceremonies.

These prohibitions apply to an event or gathering even if it is held at a private dwelling. These prohibitions also do not apply to gatherings of members of a single household or to a gathering for the purposes of a funeral service that is attended by not more than 10 people. Exemptions apply to operating emergency child care centres supporting policing personnel, frontline health care workers, and other first responders, provided the number of persons present at each centre does not exceed 50 people.

The OPP will continue to educate the public about the rules under the EMCPA and enforce through a charge as a last resort.

Repeat Offender Arrested On Moped – MARCHENKO

(CARRICK TWP, ON) – On April 12, 2020 at 9:17 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a suspicious person operating a moped along Concession 2 in Carrick Township. Officers responded and located the moped.

As a result of the police investigation, Anton MARCHENKO, 34-years-old, of Hanover was charged with Theft under $5,000, Possession of a Controlled Substance, 3 counts of Drive while under Suspension, Drive with No Insurance and Fail to Surrender Permit. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 17, 2020 to answer to the charges.

Child Airlifted After Vicious Dog Attack

(DYSART ET AL TOWNSHIP, ON) – On April 12, 2020, shortly before 4:00 p.m. members of the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to an address on Gainforth Road to assist with a serious dog bite complaint.

A six-year-old and her mother were walking near their home when they were attacked by two Saint Bernard dogs. The child’s bites were extensive and she was flown by Ornge air ambulance to a Toronto area trauma centre with critical injuries. The mother’s injuries were listed as non-life threatening and has been released from hospital.

Pending the outcome of this ongoing police investigation the animals have been placed in quarantine outside of the community by order of the health unit.

Cell Phone Ticket Issued On Hwy 21

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On April 12, 2020 at 12:02 p.m., a member of the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol along Highway 21 in the Municipality of Kincardine when they observed a motorist using a cell phone.

A 54-year-old Huron-Kinloss Township resident was charged for Drive with Handheld Communication Device.

This charge carries a maximum fine of $1,000 and 3 demerit points upon conviction.

Spike Belt Used To Stop Criminals – DAW & MARCHE

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On April 11, 2020 just after midnight Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assist related call from the Huron County OPP, reporting of a stolen pickup truck, travelling southbound on HWY 21, towards Middlesex County. The truck was later observed traveling through the community of Lucan at speeds estimated almost three times the posted speed limit. At the time police did not engage the suspect vehicle for concerns related to public safety. The stolen truck was later observed on Ilderton Rd. where it failed to stop for police and fled the area on Hyde Park Rd. OPP officers were staged at this location and a spike belt was successfully deployed, deflating two tires on the stolen vehicle. The suspects continued in their attempt to flee the area and escape across an open field. The truck become stuck in the mud and the ensuing officers quickly placed two parties under arrest, where a quantity of stolen property was recovered at the scene.

As a result of an investigation police have charged Chantelle DAW -age 26- of London, ON, with:

CC 320.18(1)(a) Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code

CC 355(a) Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

CC 355(b) Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

CC 56.1 Possession of an identity document

CC 145(5)(a) Failure to comply with release order

CC 733.1(1) Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Police have also charged the second vehicle occupant, Craig MARCHE – age 27- of the Municipality of Thames Centre with:

CC 355(a) Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

CC 355(b) Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

CC 145(5)(a) Failure to comply with release order

CC 56.1 Possession of an identity document

Both accused parties were remanded into police custody and are scheduled to appear in a London court room on April 14,2020 to speak to the charges.

Catalytic Converters Stolen From Business

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – The Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently conducting a theft related investigation that was reported at an industrial building located on the 5600 block of Egermont Drive, Middlesex Centre. Police have learned that during the early morning hours of March 30th suspects gained entry to the property and removed a quantity of catalytic converters from the parked, company vehicles. The suspects were captured on video operating a dark coloured SUV at the time of the incident.

Police are continuing to investigate all leads in relation to this investigation and are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible for these needless acts.

•Conduct a walk around of your property to ensure that all exterior lighting is working property. If it is broken make the necessary repairs.

•Complete repairs to damaged property including windows and fences. Show that you have pride in your property and care what happens to it.

•If you have a home security system, always use it. Contact your system provider to ensure that all emergency contacts are up to date with current phone numbers and dependable people who will respond when called.

•Be a good neighbour, share information and look out for each other’s property.

•Be sure to report any suspicious activity or incidents to police immediately. Your information may help to interrupt a potential crime, help to identify a crime trend, suspect, or prevent further crimes.

Citizen Reports Trespassers Near Listowel – Chantel GIBSON Charged

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) always appreciates receiving tips from the public, especially when the information results in crimes being prevented or solved. This is exactly what happened around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday April 11 2020, when a concerned citizen alerted members of the OPP to trespassers at a property on Highway 23, north of Listowel.

When police arrived a few minutes later, a black Dodge pick-up truck fled the scene through a field. One person was located on the property, and was arrested for trespassing.

Chantel GIBSON, 26, of Listowel, is charged with Enter Premises when Entry Prohibited, contrary to the Trespass to Property Act, and was issued a Provincial Offences Notice for the offence.

Drunk Driver Calls Police On Self After Friend Tried To Stop Him From Driving

(TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) – On April 11, 2020, at approximately 8:50 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for assistance on Side Road 15 at Wellington Road 86 in the Township of Mapleton. The complainant advised that they were at their friend’s residence and when they went to leave the friend was trying to hang on the rear bumper to prevent them from leaving the property. The complainant left the residence and has since pulled over to call police to report this behaviour.

Police located the vehicle and while speaking with the driver determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were placed under arrest. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Richard BRICK, 57-years-old of St. Clements has been charged with Impaired and Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on July 28, 2020 to answer to the charges.

22 Year Old From Clifford Caught Going 145 in an 80

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On April 11, 2020 at approximately 9:25 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Wellington Road 109 near Wellington Road 16. The officer observed an eastbound sport utility vehicle (SUV) travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 145 km/h.

Jonathan Riley MARKOVIC, 22-years-old of Clifford has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice – Provincial Offences Court on July 15, 2020. Their vehicle and driver’s licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

Repeat Offenders Arrested In Listowel – GILKINSON & WELSH

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested two people and charged a third person in relation to a traffic stop in Listowel.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Thursday April 9 2020, police stopped the vehicle on Davidson Avenue North after noticing the validation sticker on the vehicle had expired in August of last year. While speaking with the driver and passenger, the officer saw that there was cannabis readily available to the driver. Police also located methamphetamine in possession of the passenger. While dealing with these offences, the driver used a false name, was currently suspended from driving, and on four probation orders, which resulted in additional charges.

As a result of this investigation, three people are now facing charges.

Jamie-Lynn GILKINSON, 31, of North Huron, has been arrested and charged with:

Obstruct Peace Officer

Fail to Comply with Probation Order (four counts)

Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

Driver fail to surrender licence

Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

Fail to surrender insurance card

Drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available

Drive while under suspension

Jeremy WELSH, 21, of North Perth, has been arrested and charged with:

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine

Fail to Comply with Probation Order (two counts)

Both of the accused persons have been released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Further investigation revealed that the owner of the vehicle permitted the driver to operate the motor vehicle without insurance.

Adam KONKLE, 39, of North Huron, has been charged with:

Permit motor vehicle to be operated without insurance

Missing 3 Year Old

(ELDERSLIE TWP, ON) – On April 13, 2020 at 1:01 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a missing youth from a residence along Concession 2 in Elderslie Township, west of Chesley. Steven KUEPFER, 3-years-old, was last seen walking a mixed breed Collie at his property on April 13, 2020 at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Description of missing youth:

2 ½ feet tall, 27 lbs, slim build

Blond medium length hair

Blue eyes

Last seen wearing a Blue Jacket, Navy Blue Toque, Light Blue button down shirt, Black pants and rubber boots

West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine Unit, OPP Aviation Services and South Bruce OPP Crime Unit are assisting the South Bruce OPP with this investigation.

Stolen Pickup Truck Involved In Collision

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is asking anyone who may have witnessed a single vehicle collision involving a stolen pick-up truck over the Easter weekend to contact police.

During the evening of Sunday April 12 2020, a white Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck was stolen from a rural location on Line 46, in the Rostock area. The keys had been left inside vehicle.

The abandoned truck was recovered a short time later in a drainage ditch in the area of Perth Line 49 and Perth Road 155, in the Municipality of West Perth, after it had been involved in a single vehicle collision. It is unknown if the driver sustained any injuries in the collision. Witnesses are being asked to contact the OPP with information.

The OPP is reminding vehicle owners to lock their vehicles and remove the keys.
