POLICE RESPOND TO FIVE VEHICLE COLLISION ON ELGIN ROAD

(THAMES CENTRE, ON)- On Wednesday May 21, 2014 at 9:56 a.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thames Centre Fire Department and Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a five vehicle collision at the intersection of Elgin Road and Crampton Drive in Thames Centre.

As a result of the collision one adult male party has been transported to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries. A second adult female was transported to hospital with non-life threating injuries.

Members of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team (TTCI) have been deployed to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Police have closed a section of Elgin Road between Gladstone Drive and Mossley Drive as police continue their investigation. The roadway is expected to be closed until approximately 4:00 p.m. today.

The investigation is on-going.

OPP REPORT TWO ROAD FATALITIES OVER VICTORIA DAY LONG WEEKEND

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police’s (OPP) preliminary report indicates that two people died on OPP-patrolled roads over the Victoria Day Long Weekend.

One man died in eastern Ontario when the farm tractor he was driving failed to negotiate a turn on a township road. Another man succumbed to his injuries following a single vehicle collision in northeastern Ontario.

With high volumes of traffic on roads and people taking advantage of outdoor recreational activities, the OPP remained highly visible right across the province and were pleased to see motorists, off-roaders and boaters do an excellent job of keeping themselves and those around them safe right through the weekend.

The OPP also took part in Canada Road Safety Week from May 13-19 (2014), focusing on education and enforcement of laws associated with impaired driving, seat belt use, distracted and aggressive driving.

MAN CHARGED WITH THREATENING NEIGHBOUR

(MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD, ON) – On Monday, May 19, 2014, at approximately 6:35 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a Meaford resident reporting that he had been threatened by a neighbour.

The victim was sitting on his porch on Parker Street West in Meaford, when his neighbour drove past him in his vehicle and uttered that he was going to kill him.

At 7:14 p.m., police attended the scene and, while speaking with the victim, the accused exited his residence and yelled at the victim, “I’m going to knife you”!

The accused, Bernie David PICARD, 52, of Meaford, was subsequently arrested for two counts of uttering threats. He was held pending a bail hearing. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 12, 2015.

REPORT OF A POSSIBLE IMPAIRED DRIVER RESULTS IN MULTIPLE CHARGES AGAINST SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA MAN

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Saturday, May 17, 2014 at approximately 6:38 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible impaired driver after the vehicle, a silver 1999 BMW, was observed swerving over the road prior to hitting a guard rail. The vehicle then crashed into the ditch on West Street in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

The driver was observed stumbling out of the vehicle and running from the scene. The West Region OPP Canine Unit and the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) were called in to assist. After further investigation, the driver of the BMW was identified.

On Sunday, May 18, 2014 at approximately 3:41 p.m., the suspect turned himself in at the Chatsworth OPP Detachment where he was arrested for dangerous driving.

Cody John Douglas HICKS, 23, of South Bruce Peninsula, faces multiple charges, including: dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (x2) under the Criminal Code; fail to remain and drive while under suspension (x2) under the Highway Traffic Act, in addition to operating a motor vehicle without insurance under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

He is scheduled to appear in Court in Owen Sound on July 10, 2014.

Law Enforcement Torch Run

(SOUTH BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce OPP is pleased to announce they are joining police officers from across North America supporting Special Olympians with the Law Enforcement Torch Run. On Thursday May 29th, 2014 there will be a Law Enforcement Torch Run event in Southern Bruce County. At 9:30 am, the Torch Run will start at the Quinn Plaza and run to Victoria Park in Kincardine. Supporters are encouraged to attend the planned route and cheer on the runners as they pass by.

18 Year Old Faces Alcohol Charge & Three Day Suspension

(HURON EAST, ON) – An 18 year old year old male driver was issued a three day suspension following a traffic stop on May 17, 2014. Just before 11:00 p.m. a Dodge Ram pickup truck entered a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint located at the intersection of Front Road and 5th Avenue.

Upon speaking with the teen the officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside test was completed and the driver registered a warning on the roadside screening test. Further investigation revealed the passenger had an open container of beer inside the truck.

The 18 year old driver from East Zorra-Tavistock Township was served with a three day driver’s licence suspension and a ticket for Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor.

Restaurant Victim Of Fake Website

The Owen Sound Police would like to bring to the public’s attention a fake website for an Owen Sound restaurant. This site appears to be trying to fraudulently obtain credit card information from customers.

It was discovered by the owner’s of the Chef Wok, a prominent Owen Sound restaurant on the west side of the city, that a fake website bearing their name, address, menu and other particulars could be accessed over the internet. The concerning factor is that this fake website offers the ability for the customers to order and pay for their food by credit card on line. At this time it is not known if anyone has fallen victim to this apparent attempt to defraud customers of money and /or credit card information.

The owner’s of Chef Wok would like to notify their customers that they have a legit website which offers information such as their location and menu but it does not allow you to order your food on line and never asks for your credit information on the website.

Police warn customers who may happen upon this website or similar sites to not supply any credit card information until they confirm the legitimacy of the website.

Police continue to investigate and have notified the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre (former “Phone Busters”).

Second Suspect Arrested In Walmart Theft – Police Thank Good Samaritans

Second Suspect Arrested In Walmart Theft
The Hanover Police Service has arrested a second suspect in relation to the theft incident from
Walmart on May 8th 2014. The ongoing police investigation determined that a female, identified as
Celine St. Louis age 49 years of Clifford, Ontario interfered and attempted to assist Christopher Weber
avoid arrest while causing a disturbance by yelling and cursing at citizens who came to the aid of the
police officer.

On May 19th 2014 St. Louis surrendered to Hanover officers at the Hanover Police Service and was
charged with obstructing a peace officer and causing a disturbance. She was later released from
custody on an undertaking with conditions and is scheduled to appear in Walkerton court on June 23’d
2014 to answer to the charges.
Christopher Weber age 36 years remains incarcerated and is scheduled to appear on May Z7th 2014
video in Walkerton court.

Meanwhile the injured Hanover officer underwent a second surgery at Victoria Hospital in London and
was released from hospital on May 17th 2014. The injured officer will have a long recovery ahead of
him and is grateful for the assistance of the citizens that came to his aid.

Aaron DEJONGH – Drunk Driving

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A 23 year old is facing criminal charges of Care & Control of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired and Care & Control of a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol following a recent police investigation. On May 18, 2014 at 10:25 p.m. a Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted a Ford sedan parked in a parking lot just north of Grand Bend. The officer observed the vehicle’s engine to be running with a male in the driver’s seat.

Upon speaking with the male driver the officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol and was displaying signs of impairment.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Grand Bend OPP Detachment for breath tests.

He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both tests were over the legal limit.

As a result, Aaron DEJONGH, 23, from Woodstock has been charged with Care and Control While Impaired and Care and Control – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol.

He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter on June 26, 2014. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

ROAD CLOSURE COUNTY ROAD 10 IN ESSA

(ESSA, Ontario)-On May 21, 2014 at 9:57am, Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a serious motor vehicle collision on County Road 10 at the 4th Line of Essa.

County Road 10 will be closed from Camp Hill Road to the 4th Line of Essa for several hours to investigate the collision.

Police are asking for witnesses to the collision to contact Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.

This investigation is currently ongoing and as updates become available, they will be released to the media.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH FAIL TO REMAIN AND CARELESS DRIVING

(ROCKWOOD, ON) – On Sunday, May 18, 2014, at approximately 9:24 a.m., Wellington County Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an abandoned vehicle which had been involved in a collision on Sideroad 5, east of Trafalgar Rd, Erin, in Wellington County.

Police attended the scene an observed an extensively damaged 1996 Honda vehicle in the southbound ditch of Sideroad 5. The keys were inside the vehicle, which was still in drive. Several beer cans were observed in and around the vehicle.

After further investigation, police were able to contact the driver of the Honda. At approximately 3:42 p.m. the driver attended at the Rockwood OPP Detachment, stating that he was driving home at approximately 6:00 a.m. that morning, when he swerved to avoiding hitting a dog or coyote that ran onto the road.

Michael Danny DOBREEN, 24, of Erin, was issued Part III Summons for Fail to Remain and Careless Driving.

He is scheduled to appear in court on June 18, 2014.

Gordon GRACE – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – A vehicle stop recently conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has resulted in a local male facing impaired driving related charges.

On May 17, 2014 an OPP officer requested a tow be expedited to his location as the vehicle which he was with had stopped in the wrong lane on King Street in Woodville. The officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol.

Gordon GRACE, 36 years of age, of Woodville, was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused will appear in court, in Lindsay, on June 19, 2014.

DISTRESS BEACON ALERTS POLICE TO STRANDED CANOEIST

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On Tuesday May 19, 2014 at approximately 2:00 pm CST, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were contacted by a Minnesota tourist outfitter to advise that one of the camp patrons who had set out on a canoe trip had sent a SPOT locater message indicating they needed help on Kawnipi Lake in Quetico Park.

Police were informed of the GPS coordinates and made efforts to respond that day but were delayed due to poor weather. Officers and a paramedic responded to the area by air on the morning of May 20, 2014 and located the canoeist safe and sound. His canoe had drifted away from shore and leaving him stranded on an island. The canoe was retrieved by officers.

Jade WILSON – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – On May 18, 2014 officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) established a RIDE check program on West Street in Bobcaygeon.

A vehicle entered the RIDE check program and was approached by an officer who determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The officer conducted a road side test using the approved screening device and subsequently arrested the driver when she failed the test.

Jade WILSON, 23 years of age, of Bobcaygeon was charged with driving a motor vehicle with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused will appear in court, in Lindsay, on June 12, 2014.
