Possible drowning in the Ottawa River

(Ottawa) The Ottawa Police Service is investigating a possible drowning that occurred just before 5 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Two males in their early twenties had been boating on the Ottawa River near Britannia Beach, when they were swept into the Deschenes Rapids and capsized. One male was rescued by members of the Gatineau Fire Services, while the other male has not been located and is presumed drowned.

An extensive water and ground search was conducted by the Ottawa Police Service, which involved their Marine Dive and Trail Unit and Emergency Services Unit, as well as assistance from the Water Rescue Unit of the Ottawa Fire Department.

Foul play is not suspected, and the names of the parties are being withheld at this time.

A green and yellow Seahawk” inflatable dinghy that was used by the parties was also not recovered during the search

Suspicious incident in Beacon Hill area

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault/Child Abuse Unit is investigating the report of a suspicious incident that occurred on May 30th, 2014 at 4:35 p.m. in the Beacon Hill area of the city.

A 17-year-old female was walking on Naskapi Drive when a man approached her and began asking questions. He then grabbed the young woman and inappropriately touched her before she managed to get away. The suspect male left on foot and the victim got to a friend’s house. Police responded and searched the area with negative results.

The suspect is described as an East Indian male in his 20’s, 6′ 2 tall

SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are currently investigating a serious motor vehicle collision which occurred on June 1, 2014 at approximately 9:46 pm at the intersection of Imperial Road and Ron McNeil Line, Township of Malahide.

At the time of the collision a Ford Pick-up truck was traveling south on Imperial Road when a Toyota car which was traveling west on Ron McNeil Line failed to stop for a stop sign at Ron McNeil and Imperial Road and was struck broad side by the pick-up truck. The car traveled into the south west ditch while the pick-up spun and came to rest on the driver’s side at the southwest corner of the intersection.

Occupants of the Toyota car were extricated from the vehicle by Malahide Fire Services. The driver of the Toyota car, a 20 year old Niagara on the Lake man, and a male seated in the front passenger seat were not injured in the collision. A 21 year old Listowel, ON man, who was seated in the backseat behind the driver, suffered life threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

The driver of the pick-up truck, a 72 year old Tillsonburg man as well as an adult female passenger and a female youth passenger were transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision and OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are currently on scene assisting with the investigation.

MISSING PERSON

(WASAGA BEACH, ON.) – On June 1st, 2014 at approximately 5:30 p.m., members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report that a female was missing from a residence in the Town of Wasaga Beach.

Police are asking for the assistance of the public in locating Marisa CARBONARA 65 years old from Wasaga Beach.

CARBONARA is described as:

Female
White with a “dark” Complexion
5’ (approximately)
140 lbs. (medium build)
White short hair
Brown eyes
Wearing black knee length shorts and a pink coloured T-shirt.

CARBONARA was last seen by family at her residence in Wasaga Beach on Sunday, June 1st, 2014 at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Police and family have concerns for CARBONARA welfare and want to locate her.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

(LUCAN BIDDULPH, ON) – On Sunday, June 1, 2014 at approximately 10:57 a.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Lucan Biddulph Fire Department, and the Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a fatal single motor vehicle crash on Whalen Line near Mitchell Line in Lucan Biddulph.

As a result of the police investigation it was determined that a 2005 Buick car was travelling westbound on Whalen Line and for unknown reasons the car left the roadway.

It travelled into a field and rolled over, ejecting the lone male driver who died at the scene.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Members of the OPP Technical Traffic Investigation (TTCI) Team have been deployed to assist with the investigation.

Police have closed a section of Whalen Line between Mitchell Line and Stonehouse Line to allow for investigation.

The road is expected to be closed until approximately 6:00 p.m. today.

Serious Motor Vehicle Collision

(NORTH MIDDLESEX, ON) – On Sunday June 1, 2014 at approximately 2:14 a.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the North Middlesex Fire Department and Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a single motor vehicle crash on Queen Street Street near West Corner Drive in North Middlesex.

As a result of the collision, the two occupants, a 16 year old male and a 15 year old male, both from Michigan, U.S.A. were transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

The identities of the injured are being are withheld pending investigation.

Members of the OPP Technical Traffic Investigation (TTCI) have been deployed to assist with the investigation.

Police have closed a section of Queen Street between Elginfield Road and Maguire Road, as police continue their investigation.

The roadway is expected to be closed until approximately 12:00 p.m. today.

The investigation continues with further details to follow when they become available.

OPP INVESTIGATING ATV COLLISION

(HALIBURTON, ON) – On Saturday May 31, 2014 at approximately 7:00 pm officers from the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious ATV collision in Fort Irwin, Municipality of Dysart et al Ontario. OPP indicate that a lone male was operating a 1996 Honda ATV on Harburn Road near Dunn Road when he collided with a tree and sustained life threatening injuries. The male was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The 64 year old male from Haliburton Ontario was transported by ambulance to Haliburton hospital and then relocated to a Toronto area hospital by air ambulance. His name is being withheld pending notifications. The collision is currently under investigation by OPP collision investigators.

UPDATE – DECEASED IDENTIFIED

(ESSEX, ON) -The pedestrian killed in a crash last evening has been identified.

Andrew GYORGY, age 16, of Essex, was struck by a westbound vehicle on Essex County Road 50 in Essex, near Gloucester Drive while pushing his dirt bike also heading westbound.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Essex County Road 50 between Wright Road and Meadows Road (County Road 14) has been re-opened.

FATAL CRASH CLOSES ESSEX COUNTY ROAD 50 IN ESSEX

(ESSEX, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Essex Fire and Rescue Services and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) is currently at the scene of fatal motor vehicle collision on Essex County Road 50 in Essex. .

Officers were called to Essex County Road 50 near Gloucester Drive at approximately 9:50 p.m. for a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI) is currently on scene and Essex County Road 50 between Wright Road and Meadows Road (County Road 41) is expected to remain closed for several hours as the investigation is conducted.

The deceased pedestrian has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.

UPDATE TO MISSING PERSONS LOCATED ALGONQUIN PROVINCIAL PARK

(Algonquin Provincial Park, ON) – Today, the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located two missing males in Opeongo Lake, Algonquin Provincial Park. Tim Kolder, 19 years of age of Mississauga and Jeremy Marrows, 21 years of age of Georgetown had been missing since May 15, 2014 when their canoes capsized.

The cause of death of both men will be determined through post mortem examinations that will be conducted at a future date.

The OPP would like to thank everyone for their assistance in the search.

Robbery

One male is facing charges after robbing a convenience store in Renfrew on Monday May 26. At approximately 1:45am a lone male entered the Mac’s Milk/Shell Station at 376 Raglan St S Renfrew. The male had covered his face and was brandishing an edged weapon. He robbed the lone clerk of cash and cigarettes. He fled the store on foot and police were notified. A short time later police located and arrested a male for this robbery. A search warrant was executed at a residence in Renfrew and stolen property was recovered. Darren PEARCE 29, of Renfrew was charged with robbery with a weapon, wearing a disguise during the commission of an offence, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and 2 counts of breach of probation. He appeared in bail court in Pembroke on May 27 where he was remanded into custody until June 11 in Pembroke. Detective Constable Trevor Nicholas is leading the investigation.

Break and Enter

A home on Ottawa St in Arnprior was broken into overnight Saturday May 24. A door was kicked in and a PS3 game was stolen. There is a suspect and Provincial Constable Mark Young is investigating.

A trailer on Matawatchan Road in Greater Madawaska Township was broken into over the winter. The owner discovered the break in when they opened the trailer for the summer season. A window was broken to gain access. Provincial Constable Mark Yarmel is investigating.

Several buildings owned by the Ministry of Northern Development on Magnesium Road were broken into on 26 May. It is not known when they were entered or if anything was taken. Provincial Constable Mark Yarmel is investigating.

MALAHIDE MAN IN CRITICAL CONDITION

A 57 year old Township of Malahide man was airlifted to hospital after being run over by a farm packer being pulled by a tractor. The accident occurred at approximately 11:43am on May 30, 2014 on a rural property on Eden Line between Plank Road and Sandytown Rd, Township of Bayham.

At the time of the accident the 57 year old male was cutting the lawn around a cabin situated on the property. He was in the process of walking backwards with the push mower as a farm tractor passed behind him. Police investigation revealed that the victim had observed the farm tractor but did not realize that it was towing a cultivator and behind that the packer. Thinking it was clear the victim stepped backwards into the path of the packer and was run over.

The victim was subsequently airlifted to hospital in critical condition.

Police have deemed the incident not to be suspicious in nature and was accidental. The Ministry of Labour is not investigating.

DRUGS SEIZED

(South Dundas) – On May 30th, 2014 at approximately 2:00am, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a family dispute at a residence on County Road 31, South Dundas Township. A verbal argument had occurred between family members. Investigation at the scene resulted in a quantity (114grams) of suspected crack cocaine seized by police from a female at the residence. The street value of the substance is estimated at $10,000.

The 24 year old female was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

She was released and scheduled to appear in Morrisburg court on July 8th, 2014.

Hilton BISSONNETTE JR – Drive While Disqualified

(South Glengarry) – On May 29th, 2014 at approximately 3:00pm, SD&G OPP officers were conducting Reduced Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) spot checks at an onramp to Highway 401, South Glengarry Township. A check of a male driver indicated his driving privileges were disqualified.

Hilton BISSONNETTE JR (39) of Cornwall, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

– Drive While Disqualified

He was released and scheduled to appear in Alexandria court on July 9th, 2014.
