On June 2nd, 2014 at 1:29 a.m., police responded to an alarm call at the Alpine Hyundai dealership located at 44 Alpine Road in the City of Kitchener. Upon arrival police discovered that entrance to the building had been gained by smashing a glass door pane. No property of value was taken from the business but there was approximately $1,500 in damage. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information related to this occurrence is requested to contact Central Division, 519-653-7700 x 4499.

MVC HIT AND RUN

Waterloo Regional Police request the assistance of the public in identifying a vehicle and driver who struck a cyclist shortly before 9am on Saturday May 31, 2014. The hit and run collision occurred on Park Street at Union Boulevard in Waterloo. The cyclist was eastbound on Park Street approaching the intersection with a green light when the vehicle passed her and turned right onto Union Boulevard, striking the cyclist and knocking her to the ground. The driver then took off on Union Boulevard towards King Street South. The cyclist, a 26 year old Kitchener woman, suffered minor injuries and her bicycle was damaged. The motor vehicle was described as a small SUV, white with a roof rack, similar to a Mazda CX-5. It may have damage to the rear passenger side. Anyone with information regarding this hit and run collision is encouraged to call the Waterloo Regional Police Service North Division 519 650 8500 ext. 6397. The Waterloo Regional Police Service reminds drivers of the importance of sharing the roadway with all bicycles and motorcycles now that warmer weather has arrived.

Motorcyclist crashes

On June 1, 2014 at 1:10 p.m., the Guelph Police observed a black Yamaha motorcycle on MacDonell Street, lift the front tire off the ground and then accelerate to a high rate of speed. The motorcycle then attempted to pass another motor vehicle in the right turn channel onto Elizabeth Street but crashed into the left hand median. The driver was transported to Guelph General Hospital for minor injuries. Guelph Police had to close the right turn channel onto Elizabeth Street for several hours while they conducted their investigation.

The motorcycle received extensive damages estimated at $12,000.

A 27-year-old Guelph male is facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.

Fire at 249 Speedvale Ave West

On May 31, 2014 at approximately 3:33 p.m., the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 249 Speedvale Avenue West. Units from the Guelph Fire Department arrived at the scene of TC Industries and found a small fire located in a paint booth.

The fire was quickly brought under control and subsequently extinguished. There is minimal damage to the paint booth and surrounding area. All employees were evacuated with no report of injuries to Firefighting personnel.

The cause of the fire along with an estimate of damage is still under investigation.

Also on scene in support were GPD, GWEMS and Union Gas.

Drug investigation, pursuit, search warrant and arrests – update

On May 29, 2014, the Guelph Police Drug unit concluded a lengthy investigation that led to a short pursuit, a search warrant executed in Puslinch and three arrests. Police were still seeking the male suspect involved in the pursuit.

On May 30, 2014, Pierre THIBAULT, 43 years of Puslinch was arrested and has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving and five counts of possessing a firearm/weapon contrary to prohibition order. He is also charged with fail to stop for police and escape by flight under the Highway Traffic Act. He will appear in court on June 2, 2014.

Alexander Pereira – Drunk Driving

On June 1, 2014 at 1:12 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle in the area of the Hanlon Expressway and Paisley Road. Police spoke with the male driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested.

Alexander Pereira, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on June 20, 2014.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received seven reports from Guelph residents reporting thefts from their cars. The locations were Speedvale Avenue East, Chancellors Way, Schiedel Drive, Norwich Street, Victoria Road North, Waxwing Crescent and Weir Drive.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars and by keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle. Motor Vehicle Collision – Charges Laid

A 40 year old Chatham male driver has been charged with Careless Driving under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act after a two vehicle collision which took place at King Street West and William Street in Chatham. This took place at approx. 10:50 a.m. on the 30thof May. A 59 year old female driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries and was treated by Paramedics who attend the scene. Damage estimates are approx. $2500.00.

Motor Vehicle Collision – Charges Laid

A 53 year old female driver from Chatham has been charged with Unsafe Turn under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act after a collision with a vehicle and an E-Bike which took place at Fielder Avenue and Sandy Street in Chatham at approx. 8:30 a.m. on the 30thof May. The male driver of the E-Bike did suffer minor injuries but was not taken to hospital at the time of the incident. There was minor damage to the vehicle and approx. $500 in damages to the E-Bike.

Theft of Wood Carvings

Chatham-Kent Police are investigating the overnight theft of two large wood carvings. Theft took place at Hank’s Country Store located on Communications Road in Chatham between the hours of 8:00 p.m. on the 29th of May and 10:00 a.m. on the 30th of May.

Each carving is approx. 4 foot tall and weighs approx. 200 lbs each. Each carving has a value of $1200.00.

Bicycle theft and recovery

On the 1st of June 2014 at approximately 8 pm, Barrie Police were involved in an investigation that resulted in officers recovering two distinct BMX bicycles. Through the investigation it was revealed the bicycles were possibly stolen within the last two to three weeks from the downtown skate park.

If you have had a BMX bike stolen from that location in recent weeks, Barrie Police request that you contact the Barrie Police property office with a detailed description of the bicycle, serial number if you have it in order to claim the property.

Police also recommend locking your bicycles when leaving them unattended.

Sunday Morning

Date: Sunday, June 1, 2014 – 7:30am

At approximately 07:30, Barrie Police were called to a Hickling St address for a report of an explosion.

Police arrived with Barrie Fire and found a barbeque had exploded and slightly damaged the residence.

There were no injuries to the occupants of the residence and Barrie Fire determined the explosion was accidental.

Simultaneously, Police received a call for a large hog running down Hickling St. nearby the address where the barbeque had exploded. (BA14025064)

Police were able to “corral” the hog which was clearly a domestic pet.

Police located the hog’s residence and returned him to a grateful owner and Barrie Bylaw will follow up with licensing issues.

It appears the two incidents are coincidental, however “Isabelle” the hog remains under suspicion!

Impaired Driver

Early Saturday morning while on routine patrol in the area of Dunlop St. E and Mulcaster St an officer observed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner. The driver was squealing the tires, speeding up and then slowing. The officer stopped and investigated the driver, a roadside alcohol test was performed on the male driver. The male failed the test and was arrested for impaired driving. He later failed two subsequent tests at the police station with readings of 152mgs and 143mgs. The 34 year old Kanata resident was charged with impaired and over 80. He was released by way of a promise to appear.

Fraud Investigation

On Thursday May 22, 2014 Barrie Police Service civilian member 37 year female, Lisa Dicks of the communications unit was charged with following offences:

Fraud Over $5000.00
Uttering a Forged document (2 Counts)
The investigation is continuing and her first appearance is scheduled for June 23, 2014.

Ms. Dicks is no longer a member of the Barrie Police Service.

Man charged with several Sexual Assaults on the bike path

(Ottawa) This morning, the Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault /Child Abuse Section charged Gavin Sean GRIFFITHS in relation to a series of incidents that occurred on the bike and walking paths in the New Edinburgh/North River Road Area.

The charges include 3 counts of Sexual Assault, 2 counts of Mischief and one count of Breach of Probation.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20’s riding a bright yellow bike.
