MALE FACING NUMEROUS CHARGES AFTER DOMESTIC ASSAULT

(Havelock Belmont Methuen Township, ON) – On Saturday June 14, at approximately 11:45 p.m., members of the Peterborough County OPP were called to investigate a report of a domestic incident at a seasonal residence on Fire Route 18C.

A 23 year old female and a 25 year old male were with several friends at a weekend cottage north east of Havelock. At this time the two became involved in an argument that became physical. This resulted in the female being assaulted.

When witnesses attempted to intervene the male fled the area and attempted to steal a neighbours vehicle this resulted in the male becoming involved in a confrontation with the 46 year old owner of the motor-vehicle.

OPP were contacted and attended the scene to conduct an investigation. As a result a 25 year old male from North York was arrested and charged with the following offences: Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Weapons Dangerous, Uttering Death Threats, Theft over $5000 and Theft Under $5000.

The male has been held for a Bail Hearing scheduled for Monday June 16, in Peterborough Provincial Courts.

The identities of the parties involved are being withheld due to the nature of the offence.

OPP DIVERS SEARCHING FOR MISSING BOATER ON KAMINISTIQUIA RIVER

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On Saturday, June 14, 2014 at approximately 1:50 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a missing boater.

A 56 year old male from Thunder Bay went boating on the Kaministiquia River in the area of Forbes River Road and Silver Falls Road, during the evening hours and did not return to his camp.

OPP responded with Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and Marine Unit officers to begin searching the area on the Kaministiquia River.

The family of the missing male located the boat in the Kakabeka Falls area on Sunday evening.

Divers from the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) are attending the area today.

The investigation is continuing.

JOB FRAUD

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On Friday June 13, 2014 Quinte West OPP spoke to a male about a possible fraud.

The Trenton male told police that he had recently been contacted via email about a job. The male told police that he had completed several phone interviews and that he was the successful candidate for the job.

The company in question required that the male send a cheque so he could be receive direct deposit payroll.

The OPP would like to remind the public to never send unknown persons any personal or financial information, and if something seems too good to be true it probably is.

MISSING BOATER

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTH FRONTENAC) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the owner/user of a small, flat bottomed, duck boat (olive green) with a newer 9.9 horse power Yamaha motor.

On Sunday the 15th of June, 2014 at approximately 4:45 pm, residents of Hambly Lake reported seeing a middle-aged male fishing alone from the above described boat.

At 5:30 pm, the boat was located by local residents, anchored and unoccupied.

The investigation into this incident is on-going, anyone with further information is asked to contact the OPP Smith Falls Communication Centre at 1-888-310-1122.

Fatal Fire: DECEASED IDENTIFIED

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON.) – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County detachment, Haldimand County Fire Department and the Office of the Fire Marshal continue to investigate a fatal fire at an Argyle Street, Caledonia, Haldimand County, ON address.

On Saturday June 14th, 2014 at approximately 3:36 am emergency service units responded to a 30 unit apartment building fire at the Argyle St address to find a fire which had been contained to single apartment.

The fire was brought under control in a short period of time with the rest of the building suffering water and smoke damage.

Two (2) residents of a third floor apartment identified as 56 year old Donna LAPIERRE and 70 year old Gerald LAPIERRE of Haldimand County, ON were pronounced deceased at the scene. Three (3) other residents were transported to an area Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The remainder of the residents had been evacuated to a nearby facility. Those residents have now found temporary shelter at numerous locations with the assistance of members of the public, Haldimand County and Provincial agencies.

A post mortem examination is scheduled for today Monday June 16th, 2014 to determine the cause of death.

OPP INVESTIGATE FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – On Sunday, June 15, 2014 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 7, East of Kawartha Lakes Road 46, in the former Mariposa Township.

The OPP’s Technical Collision Investigation unit (TCI) attended the location to assist with the investigation, resulting in the closure of the Highway for several hours. Initial investigation indicated that an east bound vehicle was stopped or stopping to make a left hand turn into a driveway when it was struck from behind by a pickup truck.

The occupants of the vehicle, Christopher CATHCART, 73 years old, of Beaverton, and his wife, 58 year old Susan CATHCART, died as a result of their injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported from the scene via ambulance to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

The highway was re-opened at 10:42 pm. The investigation is ongoing.

WORKPLACE ACCIDENT

On the 13th of June 2014 over the noon hour, a carbon monoxide leak occurred at a business at1326 Victoria St N in the City of Kitchener. Twenty one employees were taken to hospital for treatment. All employees received treatment and were released from hospital or listed in stable condition. The Ministry of Labor and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority were contacted and attended the scene.

MVC PERSONAL INJURY

At approximately 7:10pm on the 13th of June 2014, a concerned motorist called Waterloo Regional Police to report a black Jeep Grand Cherokee swerving into oncoming traffic and driving off the road on Erb Street near FischerHallman Road, Kitchener. Police responded to the area while the complainant followed from a safe distance. The Jeep left the roadway on Erb Street near Weber Street North in Waterloo, running over two signs and then rear-ending a Toyota Highlander. The Toyota was waiting at the red light at Erb and Weber when it was hit from behind and pushed across the intersection. The Jeep came to rest on the northeast corner of the intersection. The Jeep driver, a 53 year old Kitchener male, was taken to hospital and treated for a medical condition that is suspected to have caused the erratic driving and the collision. The occupants of the Toyota suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics. The intersection of Erb Street East and Weber Street North in Waterloo was closed for approximately 2 hours while Police investigated. No charges are expected to be laid against the Jeep driver, however Police will be submitting a drivers license review to the Ministry of Transportation for their review.

SUSPECT APPREHENSION PURSUIT

On June 14, 2014 at approximately 2:00 a.m. police were involved in a brief suspect apprehension pursuit with a blue 2006 Pontiac Pursuit in the area of Kinzie and Thaler Avenue in Kitchener. The pursuit was discontinued out of concern for public safety. The vehicle was eventually located unoccupied in a nearby residential parking lot. The identity of the driver remains unknown, and police are asking for assistance from anyone that might have seen the incident taking place and can help identify the driver of the motor vehicle.

IMPAIRED DRIVER

On June 14th, 2014 at 7:09am, emergency services responded to the intersection of Queens Blvd and Highland Rd in Kitchener in response to a motor vehicle collision. A northbound Mazda M6S on Queens Blvd collided with an eastbound Dodge Caravan on Highland Rd. Both vehicles were heavily damaged. The occupants of the the van were transported to Grand River Hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries. The driver of the Mazda had minor injuries. A 21 year old Kitchener man was arrested and charged with,Operation with over 80mg, Impaired driving cause Bodily Harm and Dangerous Drive cause Bodily Harm. He will be appearing in court on June 26, 2104.

INDECENT ACT

On June 14th, 2014 at approximately 12:45 am, an unknown male was observed committing an indecent act outside a female’s bedroom window in the area of William Street and Westminster Ave., in the Preston area of Cambridge. The male was described as a White, age 14 to 18 years, wearing black / dark shoes, light colored pants, a grey hooded sweatshirt, with a dark baseball cap or dark hair. Police are requesting anyone who may have information about this incident to contact them at 519-653-7700 ext. 2299. Police are also reminding residents to ensure their homes are always properly secured.

On June 14, 2014, at 1:37 a.m., the Guelph Police went to an Arrow Road business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered by breaking a window. No theft is reported. On June 15, 2014 at 8:25 p.m., the Guelph Police returned to this same business. A window was again the point of entry but no theft is reported.
