WEEKEND BREAK IN RESULTS IN ARRESTS

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two adults in relation to a break and enter over the weekend.

On Friday June 13, 2014 at around 7:45 pm police received a call that a resident had returned home to find her residence in the Central Area of Kenora had been broken into and the suspect was still in the residence. Police attended and located the male in the residence. The investigation determined that the male and another suspect had forced entry into the residence and when the home owner returned, one had fled the scene and the other had hid inside the residence.

As a result of this investigation 19 year old Timothy KENT and 18 year old Gerald SMITH of Kenora have been charged with Break and Enter contrary to section 348(1)(a) the Criminal Code. SMITH was released to attend Kenora court on July 31, 2014 to answer to the charge. KENT has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

MISCHIEF TO SCHOOL

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – The Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating an incident of mischief to a school located on Oxbow Drive in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre.

Sometime between 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014 and 7:55 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014, unknown suspect(s) attended the property on Oxbow Drive. Once on the property, the suspect(s) caused damaged to the rear entry doors. The value of the damage is estimated at approximately $5000.00.

OPERATION LOOKOUT ASSISTS IN IMPAIRED DRIVER ARREST

(Billings Township, ON) – On Friday June 13, 2014 at 7:21 pm Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police received a report from a concerned citizen advising that a driver 2003 red Chevy Malibu was possibly impaired. Short time later another 911 call came into the OPP advising that this same vehicle was driving in an erratic manner. As a result of information received by the public this vehicle was located a short time later in Billings Township. As a result of this investigation the driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with drinking and driving offenses.

Charged with Impaired Operation Care and Control and Exceeding 80 mgs of Alcohol is Jeremiah WASSEGIJIG age 24 of M’Chigeeng, Ontario. He was released from custody on a Promise to Appear will be appearing in Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay to answer to the said charges. The vehicle was subsequently impounded.

Operation Lookout is an island wide program that encourages motorists or the public to call and report possible impaired or aggressive drivers. By calling 911 or OPP (677) from your cell phone you can give a description of the vehicle and direction of travel. The police can then intercept and check the driver out.

DOMESTIC ALTERCATION LEADS TO WEAPON CHARGES

(Sandfield Township, ON) – On Saturday June 14, 2014 at 12:10 am Manitoulin OPP officers responded to a call in relation to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Sandfield Township. During the altercation a firearm was displayed. As a result of this investigation a 20 year old Manitoulin man has been charged with the following offences

Domestic Assault
Mischief – Domestic
Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
Careless storage of a Firearm

The male was held in custody to appear for a Bail Hearing on Monday June 16, 2004 at 10:00 am at Ontario Bail Court in Gore Bay, Ontario.

FRIDAY THE 13TH RESULTS

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is reporting that this past Friday the 13th, Motorcycle Event, Port Dover was a relatively peaceful event.

Numerous motorcycles and spectators descended on Port Dover starting early Friday morning, with only few minor incidents occurring.

Police responded to several reported incidents in Port Dover throughout the day with a majority of the incidents being medical and liquor related, 911 hang up calls (pocket dials) from cellular phones as well as motorcycle collisions.

Over the course of the evening hours several people were arrested for Liquor Licence related offences, with police also responding to assaults, mischiefs and motor vehicle collisions. Police also conducted several R.I.D.E. programs and responded to several domestic related calls for service.

All in all for the large number of people attending Port Dover, estimated at approximately 100,000, the crowds were well behaved.

“We responded to minor calls for service. This was a well-attended event with no major issues encountered by the OPP. I would like to thank all those in attendance for their orderly behaviour and working respectively to ensure everyone’s safety,” comments Inspector Zvonko HORVAT, Norfolk County OPP Detachment Commander.

MALE ARRESTED AFTER POLICE STOP VEHICLE

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Region Highway Enforcement Team have charged a 35 year old male after police stopped a motor vehicle at a Norfolk Street North, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Friday, June 13, 2014 at approximately 11:09 a.m., police observed a motor vehicle travelling on Norfolk Street North which attracted the officer’s attention. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was investigated.

As a result of investigation, police arrested and charged the driver of the motor vehicle.

Charged with the following offences is 35 year old Robert Corey MCARTHUR of Norfolk County, Ontario.

Drive motor vehicle using a handheld wireless communication device

Driving while under suspension

Possession of Marihuana

Possession of OxyContin

Possession of Morphine

Drive motor vehicle – no licence

He is to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the charges.

OPP INVESTIGATE THEFT FROM VEHICLE

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is reminding the public to protect their property and valuables against would be thieves after a vehicle entry was reported at a Don Jon Boulevard, Port Dover, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Saturday, June 14, 2014, in the early morning hours, unknown suspects entered an unlocked motor vehicle that was parked in the driveway of the residence. Once inside, unknowns proceeded to remove an accessible parking permit.

OPP INVESTIGATING ARSONS – POLICE SEEKING PUBLICS ASSISTANCE

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is seeking the publics assistance after investigating an incident at a Callens Avenue, Delhi, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Saturday, June 14, 2014 at approximately 1:41 a.m., the Norfolk County OPP and Norfolk County Fire Services responded to a vehicle fire and located a completely engulfed vehicle parked in the driveway of the residence.

Through investigation it was determined that the home owner awoke and noticed that their vehicle was fire. The owner attended outside and immediately contacted 911. While outside the resident observed a second vehicle parked in their neighbours driveway to be on fire. The concerned resident attended the address and was able to extinguish the fire in the second vehicle.

Members of the Norfolk County Fire Department arrived on scene and the fire was brought under control by the attending fire fighters. The damage to the fully engulfed vehicle and garage of the residence is estimated at approximately $6,500 dollars.

Two youths were observed running into the new survey development located east of the residence and then continuing south bound.

POLICE INVESTIGATE BREAK AND ENTER

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is investigating a Break and Enter at a Charlotteville Road 1, Charlotteville, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

Between Friday, May 30, 2014 and Saturday, June 14, 2014 unknowns attended the address and gained entry. Once inside, unknowns removed an oscillating fan and copper piping from the basement of the residence.

Edward LAVERICK – Drunk Driving

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment has charged a 53 year old male after checking a motorcycle at a Hamilton Plank Road, Port Dover, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Friday, June 13, 2014 at approximately 9:28 p.m., police were conducting a R.I.D.E program (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) in the area of Hamilton Plank Road and Somerset Drive, when the motorcycle was stopped and checked for driver sobriety.

Charged with impaired driving and driving over the legal limit is 53 year old Edward LAVERICK of Niagara, Ontario

He is to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the charges.

Mischief

(Casselman, ON) On June 9, 2014 OPP responded to a mischief complaint on Principale Street in Casselman. At that location the owner of an apartment reported that an ex-tenant had caused extensive damages to the apartment and had stolen items that belonged to the owner. The OPP investigated the matter and came to the conclusion that some criminal offences had been committed.

VEHICLE STOP RESULTS IN DRUG CHARGES

(CITY OF TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) A member of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle on Peter’s Road on June 14, 2014 at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Through investigation both occupants were arrested for possession of Cannabis Marihuana.

Driver, Stephane SAUVE, 25, of Dymond Township is charged for Possession of Schedule II Substance Cannabis Marihuana – section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Occupant, Leonard SHEARER, 23, of New Liskeard is charged for Possession of Schedule II Substance Cannabis Marihuana – section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Both accused will appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury on July 29, 2014.

DRUG CHARGE

(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) – On June 14, 2014 at approximately 7:21 a.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer from the Traffic Management Unit (TMU) stopped a 2008 BMW for a traffic violation on Laird Road near Kirby Court, Guelph. During the stop, the officer noticed marihuana and it was seized.

Boris KUBURA age 33 of Breslau is charged with Possession of Marihuana under 30 grams, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 22, 2014 to answer to the charge.
