THREE STUNT DRIVERS CHARGED IN ONE DAY

(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, ON) – Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was kept busy on Friday with drivers speeding along their roadways. On June 20, 2014, police charged three drivers on three separate occasions driving in excess of 50 km/h over the posted speed limit across Middlesex County.

On June 20, 2014 at approximately 9:10 a.m. Middlesex County OPP was patrolling Wonderland Road in the area of Fifteen Mile Road in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre when the officer observed a southbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer measured the speed to be in excess of 50 km/h over the posted speed limit. Police charged the female driver Emily Lansink, age 21 of Huron East, ON under the stunt drive legislation. Her licence was suspended and the vehicle she was driving was impounded for a period of seven days. The accused was released by way of a Part III Summons and is scheduled to appear in a London courtroom August 18, 2014 to speak to the charge.

On June 20, 2014 at approximately 11:59 a.m. an officer with the Middlesex County OPP observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Wonderland Road in the area of Ilderton Road in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre. The officer measured the vehicle to be travelling in excess of 50 km/h over the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was initiated and as a result of the investigation, the driver, Russel LEWIS, age 71 of Middlesex Centre Township was charged under the stunt drive legislation. His licence was suspended and the vehicle he was driving was impounded for seven days. The accused was released by way of a Part III Summons and is scheduled to appear in a London courtroom August 18, 2014 to speak to the charge.

On June 20, 2014 at approximately 5:22 p.m. a Middlesex County OPP officer was on patrol when he observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed westbound on Catherine Street in the Municipality of Thames Centre. The officer measured the vehicle to be travelling in excess of 50 km/h over the posted speed limit. As a result of the investigation, police charged the female driver, Tammy RAE, age 50 of London, ON under the stunt drive legislation. Her licence was suspended and the vehicle she was driving was impounded for seven days. The accused was released by way of a Part III Summons and is scheduled to appear in a London courtroom August 18, 2014 to speak to the charge.

In 2013, OPP investigated 47 speed-related fatal collisions province-wide. The faster you travel, the more difficult it is to stop when you need to the most. Middlesex OPP continues to promote public safety on our roads through enforcement and public education. Drivers can do their part by obeying all road signage, eliminating distractions, staying sober and slowing down. The goal is not to get to your destination quickly, but to get there safely.

DRIVER ARRESTED FOR OVER THE LEGAL LIMIT

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On June 21, 2014, just after 2:30 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a Dodge pickup truck at Highway 401 eastbound near Queens Line.

While the officer was speaking with the driver, 48 year old Jeffrey GREGOUL, from Windsor, ON, it was determined that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

Subsequent tests indicated that the driver was over the legal limit and he will appear in a Chatham court on July 11, 2014, to answer to the charge of Driving With More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol In Blood.

SPEEDING LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVING ARREST

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – On Sunday June 23, 2014 in the evening hours an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was operating radar on Highway 35 south of the town of Lindsay. The officer captured a northbound vehicle in his radar doing 112 kilometres an hour in a posted 80 kilometre per hour zone.

The officer from City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the OPP stopped the vehicle north of Mount Horeb Road. As a result of further investigation the driver was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams (mgs) of alcohol in 100 (ml) millilitres of blood. A search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of marihuana.

Rajiv KUMAR, 28 years of age, of Markham Ontario, is charged with impaired driving and driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code, possession of marihuana under 30grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act and speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused will appear in court, in Lindsay, on July 24, 2014.

Break and Enter

(Russell, ON) On June 12, 2014 OPP Constable Mario Hautcoeur responded to a break and enter report on Faucher Street in Casselman. At that location unknown person(s) pried open the front door to gain access inside the house. Once inside the entire house was searched and suspect(s) left with a small money box containing $20 dollar bills. The theft took place at night while the victim was away at work.

Impaired Driver

(Rockland, ON) On June 23, 2014 OPP Constable Joe Barbe was on patrol in Rockland when he noticed a vehicle swerving on roadway and travelling at a very slow speed. The vehicle was stopped on Du Parc Avenue in Rockland. The officer spoke to the driver and noticed an odor of alcohol. The driver was asked to provide a breath sample into the Approved Roadside Screening Device (Alcotest). The driver refused to provide a sample. He was warned several time by the officer the consequences of not providing a sample. The driver did not cooperate and refused to provide his breath sample.

Ntwari, D, MVUGUSI, a 37 year old male from Rockland will have to appear in L’Orignal court on July 23, 2014 to answer to the following charge:

CC 254(5) Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample 254(3) alcohol/blood

School Bus Collision

(Embrun, ON) On June 17, 2014 OPP constables responded to a collision on Notre-Dame Street in Embrun. At that location a school carrying students collided with a vehicle. No one was hurt in the collision. The OPP investigated the collision and as a result it was confirmed that a traffic offence had been committed.

OPP INVESTIGATE BREAK ENTER AND THEFT

(KEARNEY, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a break enter and theft at a West Bay Road, Kearney, Ontario residence.

Sometime between Wednesday June 11, 2014 and Saturday June 21, 2014, unknown person(s) entered the residence and stole a 55 inch Sony LCD television valued at approximately $1600.

THEFT OF THE SOUTH RIVER TRAIN STATION SIGN

(SOUTH RIVER, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the theft of the South River train station sign. Unknown person(s) removed the sign in front of the old station sometime within the past several weeks.

The sign is described as approximately three feet across, made of wood with a steam locomotive on the centre in black. There is black lettering around the picture that says “South River Train Station”.

BREAK ENTER AND THEFT TO A RESIDENCE SHED

(MAGNETAWAN TWP, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a break, enter and theft to a residents shed on Horn Lake in the Township of Magnetawan. Unknown person(s) entered the shed and stole a 15 horsepower Mercury outboard motor, a Stihl chainsaw, two Paslode nail guns, and a Dewalt chop saw.

James SANGSTER – Drunk Driving

(STRONG TWP, ON) On Sunday, June 22, 2014 at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling Pevensey Road, Strong Township. The OPP stopped a Honda Ridgeline vehicle and subsequently arrested the driver for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

The driver, James SANGSTER, 41, of Ryerson Township was charged with driving while ability impaired, driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code and possession of a controlled substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge Ontario on Thursday July 24, 2014.

Ryan GREEN – Drunk Boating

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON.) – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County detachment has charged a 39 year old male with Impaired boating after investigating a boating incident on the Grand River, Dunnville, Haldimand County, ON.

On Saturday June 21st, 2014 at approximately 11:00 pm Police responded to a Haldimand County Road #17 address after a resident heard a boat crash on the Grand River near their home. The resident attended the waterfront and with the assistance of a nearby neighbour they were able to locate the boat operator in the water. He was retrieved from the water and was taken to shore.

Police met the rescuers on shore where they then spoke to the boat operator with signs of impairment by alcohol being detected which resulted in his arrest.

Charged with Impaired Operation of a Vessel, and Operate a Vessel with over the Legal Limit of Alcohol is 39 year old Ryan GREEN of Haldimand County, ON. He is to appear in Provincial Court, Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.

PICKLE LAKE OPP CHARGE WOMAN WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING

(PICKLE LAKE, ON) – On Sunday June 22, 2014 at approximately 4:50 am members of the Pickle Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 599 approximately 17 kilometers south of Pickle Lake. Police determined that the female driver had been consuming alcohol and placed her under arrest. The occupants of the vehicle suffered only minor injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Shelby COLES, age 24 years of Pickle Lake has been charged with the following:

– Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 253 (1)(a) of the Criminal Code

– Operation of a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mg of Blood Alcohol Content contrary to section 253 (1)(b) of the Criminal Code

– Public Mischief contrary to section 140 (1)(a) of the Criminal Code

The accused has been released from custody and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pickle Lake on July 18, 2014.

Andrew KIDD – Drunk Driving

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On June 20, 2014, just after 11:00 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a Ford F250 pickup truck on Highway 401 westbound near Merlin Road.

While the officer was speaking with the driver, 36 year old Andrew KIDD, from St. Catharines, ON, it was determined that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

Subsequent tests indicated that the driver was over the legal limit and he will appear in a Chatham court on July 11, 2014, to answer to the following charges:

Driving Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor

Tyson MACHURA – Drunk Driving

(EAST ZORRA TAVISTOCK TOWNSHIP, ON.) – On June 21, 2014 members of Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) checks on George Street in Innerkip.

As a result, police have charged 34 year old Tyson MACHURA of New Hamburg under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following:

Drive with more than 80 milligrams of Alcohol in Blood

The male was released on a Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock on July 29, 2014.

(EAST ZORRA TAVISTOCK TOWNSHIP, ON.) – On June 21, 2014 at approximately 9:35 p.m. Oxford County OPP responded to a single vehicle collision that had occurred on the 17th Line of East Zorra Tavistock Township.

As a result of investigation, police have charged 25 year old Eric CYR-SMITH of Stratford under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following:
