Fatal Snowmobile Collision

(SUNDRIDGE, ON) – A person is deceased after a collision involving a Motorized Snow Vehicle (MSV) on an Ontario Federation Snowmobile Clubs trail (OFSC).

On February 28, 2025, approximately 10:15 a.m., the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Parry Sound District Paramedics Service and Sundridge Fire Department responded to a single MSV collision on OFSC trail #NN415, in the Village of Sundridge.

A 54-year-old-person from Norfolk, Ontario, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of an OPP Collision Reconstructionist and an OPP Technical Collision Investigator (TCI).

 The OFSC trail has been re-opened to snowmobilers.

33 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving

(SUNDRIDGE, ON) – Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) leads to a driver being charged with impaired driving.

On January 12, 2025, at approximately 12:00 p.m., the Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. at the intersection of Tower Road and High Street in the Town of Sundridge, when a vehicle was stopped. Officers detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage. Further testing resulted in the driver being arrested for impaired operation.

As a result, Calvin Jeffery, 33-years-old from Sundridge, was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge on February 20, 2025.

Emily STEWART – Impaired Driving

(SUNDRIDGE, ON) – Traffic stop leads to an impaired driving arrest in the Village of Sundridge. 

On November 16, 2024, at approximately 8:05 a.m., the Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol in the Village of Sundridge and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver, officers noticed the driver exhibited signs of impairment. 

Further to the investigation the driver was arrested and transported to an OPP detachment for further testing. 

Emily STEWART, 29 years-of-age, of Magnetawn, was charged with:

·      Possession of a scheduled I substance – Cocaine – two counts

·      Operation while impaired – drugs

·      Operate motor vehicle without insurance

·      Colour coating obscuring interior 

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on December 12, 2024, in Sundridge.

The public is always encouraged to call 9-1-1 if they observe a possible impaired driver. The Almaguin Highlands OPP appreciates the efforts of those who called to report the dangerous driving behaviour of this individual. Thank you for helping us keep our roads safer for everyone.

James LEE Was Arrested Again

(SUNDRIDGE, ON) – A drug related search warrant was executed in the Village of Sundridge, leading to the arrest of three people. Police seized drugs and Canadian currency.

On Tuesday October 8, 2024, the Almaguin Highlands OPP’s Street Crime Unit (CSCU) detachment members, and Emergency Response Team (ERT) arrested three individuals and seized over 9 grams of suspected cocaine, 16 grams of suspected crack cocaine, over 23 grams of suspected Fentanyl, and Canadian currency. The street value for the drugs seized was approximately $7,000. 

As a result of the investigation, three people were arrested and one was charged.  

James LEE, 40-years-old of Sundridge was charged with the following:

·      Failure to comply with undertaking

·      Failure to comply with probation order (two counts)

·      Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

·      Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin)

·      Possession property obtained by crime under $5000

The accused person was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.

Arson & Assault – Sean NOLAN Arrested

(SUNDRIDGE, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an arson in the Village of Sundridge. 

On May 6, 2024, shortly after midnight the Almaguin Highlands OPP along with Parry Sound District Paramedic Service and the Sundridge Fire Department responded to a call of a house fire on John Street.

Investigation revealed that a person lit their residence on fire and barricaded themselves inside the residence. Out of concern for their safety, police entered the residence and located the person with a knife in hand. Consequently, the person was arrested safely by officers and transported to hospital for assessment.

As a result of the investigation, Sean NOLAN, 57-year-old from Sundridge was charged with:

  • Arson – Disregard for human life
  • Assault a peace officer with a weapon
  • Arson – Damage to property
  • Assault
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest

The accused was remanded into custody and awaits a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Parry Sound.

Drug Bust – Shane DEVEAUX Arrested

(SUNDRIDGE, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person with multiple drug related offences after a traffic stop.

On Tuesday March 26, 2024, the Almaguin Highlands OPP Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and detachment members conducted a traffic stop on Ontario Street in the Village of Sundridge. Police arrested one person and located suspected cocaine, ICE tabs of amphetamines, Percocet, and methamphetamine. The street value for the drugs seized was approximately $1800.00 Police also located and seized an imitation pistol and cellphones.

As a result of the investigation, Shane DEVEAUX, 43-years-old of South River was charged with the following:

·      Resist Peace Officer

·      Fail to comply with release order – other than to attend court

·      Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose

·      Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Opioid (other than heroin)

·      Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Other drugs

·      Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamine

The accused person was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.

Weapon & Drug Bust

(SUNDRIDGE, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged three individuals with drug related offences after two search warrants were executed at two separate residences in the Village of Sundridge.

On Tuesday March 5, 2024, the Almaguin Highlands OPP’s Street Crime Unit (CSCU) detachment members, Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) arrested four individuals and located over 100 grams of suspected cocaine, over 1000 tabs of suspected amphetamines, over 140 suspected Percocet, and approximately $5,200 dollars in Canadian currency. The street value for the drugs seized was approximately $17,000. Police also located and seized an imitation firearm, shot gun, .22 riffle and ammunition.

As a result of the investigation, three people were arrested and charged.  

Gregory HALL, 38-years-old of Sundridge was charged with the following:

·      Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose

·      Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

·      Unauthorized possession of a firearm (two counts)

·      Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Other drugs (amphetamine)

·      Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking -Opioid (other than heroin)

·      Possession property obtained by crime under $5000

James GRAVELLE, 34-years-old of Sundridge was charged with the following:

·      Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine (two counts)

·      possession property obtained by crime under $5000

Sara SAUNDERS, 28-year-old of Sundridge was charged with the following:

·      Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine (two counts)

·      possession property obtained by crime under $5000

The accused persons remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
