Daniel BROHM – Drunk Driving

(SPRINGWATER, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one individual with impaired driving at a RIDE (reducing impaired driving everywhere) Program.

On Thursday, January 15, 2026, shortly after 3:00 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers conducted a RIDE Program on Gill Road in Springwater Township.

As a result, Daniel BROHM, a 61-year-old of Midhurst, was arrested and charged with the following:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on February 10, 2026, to answer to the charges.

Drivers who are impaired by drugs or alcohol continue to pose a significant threat on Ontario roads.

14 Year Old Facing Impaired Driving Charge

(SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two drivers with impaired-related offences during the first two days of the New Year.

On Thursday, January 1, 2026, shortly after 3:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on County Road 10, north of Concession 12 Sunnidale. Officers located the vehicle and conducted an impaired driving investigation. Subsequently, the driver was arrested.

Matthieu-Michel DASTI, a 26-year-old of Barrie, was arrested and charged with the following:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

The male is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on February 3, 2026, to answer to the charges.

On Friday, January 2, 2026, shortly before 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a call from a male who reported being stuck in the snow on Anne Street, south of Carson Road. Upon investigation, officers determined the driver was 14 years old and had taken his father’s vehicle without consent. Officers had a suspicion of alcohol involvement and made a breath demand, which the youth refused.

The 14-year-old youth from Springwater Township, who cannot be named due to the provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), was arrested and charged with the following:

·      Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Youth Court of Justice in Collingwood on February 5, 2026, to answer to the charges.

Although the Festive RIDE campaign has concluded, officers will continue to conduct RIDE checks throughout the year. The OPP reminds motorists that impaired driving is a serious threat to public safety and is never worth the risk. Adam SUCHALL & Tara BROWN Were Arrested

(WASAGA BEACH, SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ESSA TOWNSHIP, ON)- Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Nottawasaga Detachment of the OPP partnered to conduct joint Festive RIDE checks.  

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, officers from both the Huronia West and Nottawasaga Detachments partnered to conduct joint Festive RIDE checks in Wasaga Beach, Springwater Township and Essa Township. This ongoing initiative is part of the province-wide Festive RIDE campaign, aimed at promoting increased road safety during the holiday season.  

By joining forces, officers reinforced their commitment to reducing impaired driving and ensuring everyone gets home safely. Officers engaged with motorists, conducted RIDE checks, and reminded drivers that safe driving saves lives. As a result of the afternoon enforcement multiple Provincial Offences were issued in addition to the following:  

Adam SUCHALL, 32-years-old of Wasaga Beach, charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) 
  • Drive Vehicle or Boat with cannabis readily available 

Tara BROWN, 40-years-old of Wasaga Beach, is charged with: 

  • Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs 
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand 

Both accused are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, to answer to the charges.  

During the campaign, which continues until January 1, 2026, motorists can expect an increased police presence as officers conduct RIDE initiatives around the clock, seven days a week, across the province. Impaired driving is never worth the risk, plan ahead for a safe ride home.

$300,000 Drug Bust

(Tiny Township, Springwater Township, York Region, ON) – Members of the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid numerous charges against three individuals following a multi-jurisdictional warrant execution.

In Autumn 2024, the Southern Georgian Bay CSCU initiated a drug trafficking investigation involving multiple individuals. On December 4, 2025, search warrants were executed simultaneously at residences in York Region and Tiny Township, along with a vehicle stop in Springwater Township.

Assisting with this investigation were the Collingwood/Orillia/Huronia West/Caledon/Nottawasaga CSCU, Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, Central Region Intelligence Unit, Frontline Uniform Members, Offender Transport Unit, and York Regional Police Tactical Teams.

Officers seized multiple kilograms of suspected cocaine and crystal methamphetamine valued at approximately $300,000, as well as items consistent with the sale and trafficking of drugs, including cell phones, currency, digital scales, and a vacuum sealer.

As a result of the investigation, three individuals were arrested and charged with offences under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

Timothy LEMAY, 33 years of Tiny Township was held for a bail hearing on December 5, 2025 before the Ontario Court of Justice :

  • Trafficking in Schedule I Substance – Other Drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

Brent BELANGER, 55 years of Tiny Township was held for a bail hearing on December 5, 2025 before the Ontario Court of Justice:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine

Abas SHIRE, 33 years of Brampton was released on an Undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

County Road 27 Tragedy: Local Rider Pronounced Dead at Scene in Springwater Township

(SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ON) –  Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huronia West Detachment are investigating a fatal collision on County Road 27 in Springwater Township.

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, shortly after 4:00 p.m., officers responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle. The motorcycle driver, a 36-year-old male from Springwater Township, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing with assistance from OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team. County Road 27 remains closed for several hours while emergency crews and investigators are on scene.

Shanna ROSE Was Arrested

(SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving related charges.

On July 4, 2025, shortly after 11:00 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Mills Street East in Springwater Township.

Officers observed a vehicle that had stopped for the R.I.D.E. spot check and after speaking with the driver, officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, leading to an arrest. As a result of the investigation, Shanna ROSE, 44-year-old of Oro-Medonte, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Collingwood on July 29, 2025, to answer to the charges.

Paul KEEN Was Arrested

(SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving related charges because of a traffic tip.

On June 30, 2025, shortly after 12:30 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers responded to a traffic tip of a possible impaired driver in Springwater Township.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle on Glengarry Landing. During the interaction, officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, leading to an arrest. As a result of the investigation, Paul KEEN, 52-year-old of Barrie, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

On June 25, 2025, shortly after 8:00 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers responded to a traffic tip of a possible impaired driver in Springwater Township.

During the interaction, officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, leading to an arrest. As a result of the investigation, Prasanth MAHENDRARAJAH, 33-year-old of Ajax, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

As a result of the investigation, Kristopher O’KEEFE, 43-year-old of Angus, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

Pervert Alert: Mitchell KOOPMANS Arrested For Luring Children

(SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one individual with multiple serious offences in Springwater Township following suspicious person investigation.

On April 16 and 17, 2025, Huronia West OPP officers responded to a suspicious person call from several residents in Hillsdale, Ontario, after a man was observed leaving notes at a park on Davenport Drive and the surrounding areas. Officers commenced an investigation and identified several locations with similar evidence.

The Huronia West OPP Crime Unit, with the support of the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit (CSEU), and OPP Repeat Offender and Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Unit commenced a multi-day investigation leading to the identity of a local man.

On April 23, 2025, as a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged Mitchell KOOPMANS, 34, of Hillsdale, with the following offences:

  • Make Sexually Explicit Material available to a Person Under 16 yrs of age – two counts
  • Luring a Person Under 16 years of age by means of Telecommunication – two counts
  • Invitation to Sexual Touching under 16 years of age
  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

The accused remains in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on April 24, 2025, to answer to the charges.

Officers spoke with the driver of a vehicle that entered the R.I.D.E. program and during the interaction, officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, leading to an arrest. As a result of the investigation, John WROBLEWSKI, 61-year-old of Barrie, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·      Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor (LLCA)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Collingwood on May 20, 2025, to answer to the charges.

Dragan BOZIC – Drunk Driving

(SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving related charges because of a traffic tip.

On April 19, 2025, shortly after 6:30 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers responded to a traffic tip of a possible impaired driver in Springwater Township.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle on Bayfield Street North. During the interaction, officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, leading to an arrest. As a result of the investigation, Dragan BOZIC, 59-year-old of Victoria Harbour, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Collingwood on May 20, 2025, to answer to the charges.
