Drug Bust – Names Released

(NORFOLK COUNTYON) – Two individuals have been arrested and are facing multiple charges.

On August 15, 2024, at approximately 5:20 p.m., members of the Haldimand and Norfolk County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit, took two individuals into custody after they were observed inside a motor vehicle on Windham Road 13, Norfolk County.

The investigation determined that the driver was prohibited from driving and was subsequently taken into custody.

As a result of further investigation, the passenger was also taken into custody.

A quantity of suspected fentanyl and cocaine, as well as drug paraphernalia, cash and property were seized.

John BAVERSTOCK, 42-years-old of Norfolk County remains in custody and has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while Prohibited Under the Criminal Code (two counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (three counts)
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Drive While Under Suspension (two counts)
  • Use Plate not Authorized for Vehicle

Ria LANE, 29-years-old of Norfolk County has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (three counts)
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on later dates.

Massive Meth & Cocaine Bust – Kuldeep Singh OTAL Arrested

(ORANGEVILLE, ON) – As a result of an ongoing police investigation, officers from the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a male connected to multiple criminal investigations.

On August 15, 2024, members of the Dufferin and Caledon Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), along with frontline officers, executed 2 search warrants at an address in Orangeville.

Kuldeep Singh OTAL, a 43-year-old from Brampton has been charged with:

·      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000- (eight counts)

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Methamphetamine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Cocaine

·      Altering/Destroying a vehicle identification number

As a result of the investigation the following was recovered:

·      15 bricks x 1100 grams= 16,500 grams of cocaine

·      560 grams of Methamphetamine

·      6 x 53″ trailers

·      2 x Tractor Trailers

·      Money Counter

·      Vacuum Sealer

The accused individual was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville, to answer to the charges.

Meth Bust – Names Released

(ESSA TOWNSHIP, TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two individuals with multiple drug and weapon related charges following the execution of three warrants in Alliston and Angus.

In February 2024, Nottawasaga Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) began a drug trafficking investigation within Alliston and Angus. As a result of the investigation, officers were able to obtain search warrants.

On August 15, 2024, the warrants were executed at two residents and one storage facility by the OPP Nottawasaga CSCU, Caledon CSCU, Dufferin CSCU, and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU).

The following items were seized:

  • Express 70 12-gauge modified shot gun
  • 1 Ounce of Cocaine
  • 14 grams of Methamphetamine
  • 1.7 grams of Fentanyl
  • 42 Clonazepam tablets
  • Drug trafficking indicia
  • Stolen F-150 valued at approximately $10,000

Sherri CRAWFORD, 52-year-old of Essa, was arrested and charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Other Drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs

Michael MCCORMACK, 31-year-old of Lisle, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Possession of Schedule Substance I Substance- Cocaine

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Other Drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule IV substance for the purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule IV substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

Both accused were held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice.

Assault In Harriston #WaitInTheTruck

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – On August 12, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered into an I.P.V. investigation in Harriston. As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old male from Harriston, has been charged under the Criminal Code with the following:

A 21-year-old female from Guelph was also charged with the following:

Both accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, at a later date.

Guanzhong DU Was Arrested

(OTTAWA, ON) – Police have conducted a joint initiative in the Ottawa area, to help promote safer roads following several fatal collisions over the August long weekend.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division (HSD), members of the Ottawa OPP Detachment, OPP Aviation Services and Ottawa Police Service had an increased presence along Highway 417 and other roads on Thursday, August 15, 2024. 

In one incident, an individual from Ottawa faces multiple charges after failing to stop for police. Shortly after 11:30 p.m. OPP observed a motorcycle travelling at high speeds on Highway 417 westbound, near Moodie. The motorcycle was travelling at nearly 150-km/h. When officers attempted to stop the motorcycle, the rider fled at higher speeds. With the assistance of an OPP helicopter, officers were able to track the motorcycle and driver to an address on Preston Street where an arrest was made.

Guanzhong DU, 24 years of age has been charged with the following Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act Charges:

  • Flight From Peace Officer
  • Fail to Stop for Police
  • Speeding
  • Drive Motor Vehicle, Plate Improperly Displayed
  • Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

The motorcycle has been impounded until the completion of the court case. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on September 27, 2024.

The OPP can confirm that police attempted to stop another motorcycle which was travelling at more than 200-km/h on Highway 417. The driver failed to stop for police and was tracked for a short time by the OPP helicopter. However, in the interest of public safety and the safety of the driver, the helicopter disengaged as the driver’s behavior was becoming increasingly dangerous. 

In total, police laid fifty-one charges, which included 16 speeding charges, four stunt driving charges, three Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charges, and 28 other various charges. There was a third motorcycle driver who failed to stop for police, but officers were able to obtain the plate information and that investigation is continuing with charges pending.

Jordan FAGAN Charged

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- Cube van runs a red light.

On August 12, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint where a westbound white cube van ran a red light on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

At approximately 10:00 p.m., OPP observed the white cube van on Highway 17 near River Street in the Town of Thessalon and initiated a traffic stop. A query revealed the driver was breaching a curfew and was a suspended driver.

As a result, Jordan FAGAN, 24 years-of-age from Brampton was charged with:

  • Failure to comply with release order-other than to attend court
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on August 13, 2024, and was remanded into custody.

Elizabeth Molly BARTLETT – Robbery

(BRANT, ON) – As a result of an ongoing robbery investigation in Brant County, one individual is facing charges.

At approximately 3:50 a.m., on Sunday, August 4, 2024, members of Brant County OPP responded to a robbery at Colborne Street West.

It was determined that two individuals entered the victim’s residence and became involved in a physical confrontation with the victim. Both suspects then removed property and fled from the residence into a black vehicle which left in an unknown direction. No injuries were reported.

Later, officers located one suspect at an address on Aberdeen Avenue in Brantford. The individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 45-year-old, Elizabeth Molly BARTLETT of Brantford:

  • Robbery with Theft  

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on September 26, 2024.

Investigators have identified the second suspect involved in this incident and are making attempts to locate them. There is no threat to public safety.

Meth Bust – Ronny PRADO LASSO Arrested

(PARRY SOUND, ON) – The North East Region Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one person with drug related offences.

On August 13, 2024, members of the North East Region CSCU assisted by OPP West Parry Sound Detachment arrested one person on Great North Road in the Town of Parry Sound after a drug investigation.

Officers seized a quantity of drugs suspected to be cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and fentanyl with an estimated street value of $12,000 and over $13,000 of Canadian Currency.

As a result of the investigation, Ronny PRADO LASSO, 23-years-of-age of Etobicoke was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking -Opioid – 2 counts.
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5000.00
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamine

The accused was held for bail at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound and is schedules to appear on September 5, 2024.

Two Arrested For Theft – ALVARES & VILLENEUVE

(PEMBROKE, ON.) The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two persons after they were located at a local business after hours. 

On August 16, 2024, just after 12:00 a.m., OPP received information regarding two persons at a local business after hours on Bennett Street in the City of Pembroke. Police attended and located the two people.

Patrick ALVARES, 37 years old, of Caledon, On. and Scott VILLENEUVE, 38 years old, of Ottawa were charged with theft under $5,000.

Both parties were released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on September 17, 2024.

Repeat Offenders Arrested Again – Names Released

(PORTLAND, ON) – The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two individuals with dozens of charges as a result of a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program.

On August 14, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., Leeds County OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program near Highway 15 and County Road 5, when a vehicle was observed conducting a U-turn as it approached the officers. The vehicle was subsequently stopped. The driver was arrested when it was determined he was prohibited from driving as a result of previous convictions.

Officers observed what appeared to be drugs and drug paraphernalia in the car; the passenger was also arrested.

Officers seized from the vehicle the following:

  • Over 200 grams of suspected cannabis
  • Over 30 tablets of suspected codeine
  • Half a gram of suspected crack cocaine
  • Over 50 grams of suspected methamphetamine
  • Over 50 capsules and tablets of suspected narcotics
  • Four packs of contraband cigarettes
  • Three smartphones

Matthew BAER, age 60, and Rhawnie CARRUTHERS, age 44, both of Rideau Lakes Township, were charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – four counts, Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Possession of over 30g dried cannabis in a public place, Cannabis Act
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court, Criminal Code

BAER was also charged with the following:

  • Fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle, Highway Traffic Act
  • Operate unsafe vehicle, Highway Traffic Act
  • Permit use of plate not in accordance with Act, Highway Traffic Act
  • Possess unmarked fine cut tobacco, Tobacco Tax Act
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, Criminal Code
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (second count), Criminal Code

CARRUTHERS was also charged with the following:

  • Obstruct peace officer, Criminal Code
  • Fail to comply with probation order, Criminal Code

Both accused were remanded into custody following a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville.

Daniel BOONSTRA – Drunk Driving

(NORTH MIDDLESEX, ON) – Driver facing Impaired driving charge after failing roadside demand.

On August 14, 2024, at 10:15 p.m., a member of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), while on general patrol on Townsend Line in North Middlesex, performed a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle.

It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Daniel BOONSTRA, a 39-year-old of Strathroy, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on September 23, 2024.

George MARGESON – Arson, Etc.

(SEGUIN, ON) – The West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with the assistance of Huntsville and Bracebridge OPP have arrested and charged one person after an incident in the Village of Rosseau in Seguin Township.  

On August 14, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., West Parry Sound OPP, Huntsville OPP and Bracebridge OPP attended a residence on Oak Street in Rosseau regarding a reported assault and arson. After investigation, one person was arrested at the scene.

George MARGESON, 25-years-old from Emsdale, was charged with:

  • Arson – damage to property
  • Assault
  • Careless storage of firearms (four counts)
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Firearm – use while attempting to commit offence
  • Theft under $5000
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (three counts)
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm (three counts)

The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on August 15, 2024.

Murder – One Arrested

(BRANT, ON) – One individual has been arrested and charged in connection with a homicide in Brant County.

On November 24, 2022, at approximately 12:45 p.m., members of the Brant County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended an address on Salt Springs Church Road to investigate a report of a deceased individual.

Investigators have determined the deceased, identified as 82-year-old Gordon OUGHTRED of Brant County, died as result of homicide.

As a result of the investigation, 79-year-old Elfgard OUGHTRED, of Brant County, has been charged with second degree murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on August 16, 2024.

A publication ban has been issued and further information will not be released.

The investigation is being conducted by the Brant County OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Christopher J. Carere – Impaired Driving

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – One person is facing charges after the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint of a driver that could not maintain their lane. 

On August 14, 2024, at 10:45 a.m., the Wellington County OPP received a traffic complaint advising that a sport utility vehicle was unable to maintain its lane on Highway 6 in the Town of Fergus. The Wellington County OPP located the motor vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. As a result of the investigation Christopher J. Carere, 62-years-old from Guelph was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Dangerous operation
  • Resist peace officer
  • Flight from peace officer

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Guelph on August 27, 2024.

2 More Drunk Drivers Arrested

(DUFFERIN COUNTY, ON) – Officers from the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two drivers with impaired operation.

On August 14, 2024, just after 6:00 p.m., Dufferin OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Airport Road, in the Town of Mono. Minor injuries were reported. During the investigation, officers formed grounds that one of the driver’s abilities to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were subsequently arrested.

As a result, Patrick MURRAY, 28, of Orangeville, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

• Disobey stop sign- stop wrong place

Just over six hours later, on August 15, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Dufferin OPP was conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot check when a motor vehicle entered. Officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were subsequently arrested.

As a result, Jessica PIDGEON, 31, of Hanover, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused are scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to the charges. The driver’s license’s were also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicles impounded for seven.
