Found Human Remains Update

(MCDOUGALL, ON) – Police have determined the identity of the human remains discovered in McDougall Township.

On August 12, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the West Parry Sound detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of found human remains on a property on Avro Arrow Road. The human remains have been identified as a 56-year-old female reported missing to the York Regional Police (YRP) on August 9, 2024.

The investigation is being led by YRP, with support from the OPP including the Criminal Investigation Branch, West Parry Sound Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services and the North East Regional Support Team. Additional information on the YRP-led investigation can be accessed on the YRP website.

Another Meth Bust

(MARATHON, ON) – Three individuals are facing drug charges following a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant in the Town of Marathon.

On August 21, 2024, at approximately 12:00 p.m., members of the Marathon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit, with assistance from the Emergency Response Team and Marathon OPP Detachment executed a CDSA search warrant at a residence on Coveney Street.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin. Canadian currency, a conductive energy weapon, and other items associated with drug trafficking were also seized.

As a result, Cory EXELL, 41-years-old, and Skylar ANDREWS, 30-years-old, both of Marathon have been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code (CC) and CDSA with:

·        Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

·        Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

Summer DESMOULIN, 27-years-old, of Marathon has been arrested and charged under the CDSA with:

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Heroin

The accused are being held in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Marathon on August 22, 2024.

Fatal Collision Update

(OTTAWA, ON) – The investigation into a motorcycle collision in Ottawa, which claimed the lives of two riders, has been competed.

Members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Collision Reconstructionists and Technical Collision Investigators have been looking into the cause of the crash. It happened on Highway 416 late in the evening on Friday, August 2, 2024.

The investigation has determined that both motorcycles were travelling at extremely high speed prior to the incident. It has also been confirmed that speed was a contributing factor in the collision.

One rider was pronounced deceased at the scene and the other died in hospital.

The OPP urges all motorcycle riders to follow posted speed limits and help ensure the safety of everyone on the roads.

$200,00 Drug Bust

(CARLING, ON) – The West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged three people with weapons and drug related offences after a traffic stop on Highway 400 in Carling Township.

On August 21, 2024, at approximately 1:00 a.m. officers stopped the vehicle for a sobriety check and observed cannabis readily available. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in officers locating a firearm, high-capacity magazine, over $500 of Canadian currency and suspected Fentanyl with an estimated street value of approximately $200,000. 

Terrence FRAY,21-years-old from North York was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Opioid
  • Passenger – fail to properly wear seat belt
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order – two counts
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition obtained by crime
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Opioid

Yugam RAHEJA, 26-years-old from Timmins was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Opioid
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition

Harcharan SINGH, 26-years-old from Timmins was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Opioid
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition obtained by crime
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis in open baggage

The accused persons were held for bail before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on August 21, 2024.

Cocaine Bust – 5 Arrested

(PEMBROKE, ON) – Five people face a total of 20 Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) charges after a drug seizure in the City of Pembroke.      

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), assisted by OPP’s Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit and members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP, executed a search warrant on August 20, 2024, at an apartment on Pembroke Street East.

Police seized over 200 grams of suspected cocaine and a quantity of cash. Officers also located a digital scale and multiple cell phones.

As a result of this investigation 54-year-old Lorraine KENNY of Pembroke, 45-year-old Shawn CHARTRAND of Pembroke, 30-year-old Katlin KINNEAR of Pembroke, 31-year-old Mutiur REHMAN of Ottawa, and 29-year-old Edwin EDOUARD of Ottawa each face the following CC and CDSA charges:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine – two counts each
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – one count each

REHMAN faces four additional CC charges of failing to comply with a probation order. EDOUARD faces one additional CC charge of failing to comply with a probation order.

All five accused persons were held for bail hearings at the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Pembroke. KENNY, EDOUARD and CHARTRAND are scheduled to appear on August 22, 2024. KINNEAR is scheduled to appear on August 23, 2024. REHMAN is scheduled to appear on August 28, 2024.

Kaleb DEMOUR – Drug Trafficking

(SAULT STE MARIE, ON)- OPP execute drug warrant in Sault Ste Marie.

In the summer of 2024, Sault Ste Marie and Superior East Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Units (CSCU) and the OPP’s Provincial Operations Intelligence Bureau (POIB), began an investigation related to drugs being trafficked from Sault Ste Marie to Wawa.

On August 20, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the OPP’s CSCU and POIB assisted by the Sault Ste OPP Detachment, and Sault Ste Marie Police Service’s Canine Unit, Drug Enforcement Unit and Emergency Services Unit, arrested an individual in the City of Sault Ste Marie and seized approximately $4500 in Canadian currency. 

Later, on this same afternoon a drug warrant was executed at a residence on Durban Street in Sault Ste Marie. Police seized over 16 grams of suspected fentanyl (estimated street value $2400) and over 55 grams of suspected cocaine (estimated street value $6000), and drug paraphernalia.

Kaleb DEMOUR, 30 years-of-age from Sault Ste Marie was charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie Video Bail on August 21, 2024.

Marcus JOHNSON – Assault

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual has been charged following an investigation into a harassment incident in Waterford.

At approximately 7:08 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to a harassment incident on the Waterford Heritage Trail near the Waterford Ponds on Concession 8 Townsend in Waterford, Norfolk County.

It was determined that a member of the public was walking along the trail when they were approached and verbally harassed by an unknown individual. After this encounter, the victim continued along the trail but was then physically assaulted by the suspect. The suspect subsequently left the area in a blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

The victim reported no injuries.

Around 8:46 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, the suspect was located at an address on Old Highway 24 in Waterford, Norfolk County, and was taken into custody.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 53-year-old Marcus JOHNSON of Brantford, Ontario:

  • Criminal harassment,
  • Assault,
  • Resist Peace Officer.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

The OPP would like to remind all trail users in Norfolk County to stay vigilant at all times while using the trail systems. The safety of all trail users is a top priority. Taking extra precautions, such as using the trails in pairs or groups, planning your route and informing a family member or friend, and carrying a cell phone, is strongly recommended. If you observe any suspicious or criminal activity, please contact the police immediately.

2 Arrested At RIDE – Names Released

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) -On August 20th at approximately 2:00am  Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 35 near Tower Road.

A vehicle entered the RIDE program with a female driver and male passenger. An Officer noticed signs of impairment from the driver. The Officer entered an investigation.

As a result, 27-year-old Amber Allen from Lindsay, was arrested and charged with the following.

  • Operation while impaired
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Driving vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

During the investigation the vehicle was searched, suspected drugs and a pellet gun were located and seized.

As a result, 29-year-old Jonathon Dasilva-Smith from Ajax, was arrested and charged with

  • failing to comply with his probation order.

The accused was held for bail.

In addition to the charges for the driver, they received a 90-day licence suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days. The driver was released from custody with conditions and will appear later in court.

Officers also seized a large number of suspected narcotics from the vehicle.

Drivers are reminded that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving. The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. Arrive alive, drive sober.

Connor Scratcher – Drug Trafficking

(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) – Two individuals are facing charges following a drug trafficking investigation and the execution of a search warrant at a residence by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU).

On August 20, 2024, at 2:19 p.m., members of the Wellington County CSCU and the West Region Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant at a residence on 13th Line East Garafraxa.

During the search officers discovered and seized a quantity of suspected cocaine, and psilocybin along with drug paraphernalia. The combined estimated value of the seized controlled substances is approximately $5000.00.

28-year-old Connor Scratcher of East Garafraxa is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Trafficking schedule I substance – cocaine

The accused was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph.

29-year-old Samantha Kennedy of East Garafraxa is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon

Samantha Kennedy was released and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on September 24, 2024.

Allen BOSCH Was Arrested Again

(LAMBTON SHORES, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested one individual after police responded to a report of a collision in the Municipality of Lambton Shores.

On August 18, 2024, at approximately 5:30 a.m., members of the Lambton County OPP along with the assistance of Anishinabek Police Service (APS) responded to a report of a collision on Lakeshore Road in the Municipality of Lambton Shores.

APS members located the vehicle and driver. After a brief conversation with the driver, the individual fled on foot from the police. Through investigation, it was determined that the subject vehicle was previously reported stolen out of the City of Sarnia.

With the assistance of the OPP Canine Unit, West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and members of the Anishinabek Police Service, Lambton County OPP took one individual into custody without incident.

As a result of the investigation, Allen BOSCH, a 38-year-old of Sarnia was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·        Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000

·        Obstruct peace officer

·        Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

The accused was held pending a bail hearing and further remanded into custody. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 21, 2024, in the City of Sarnia to speak to the charges.

Shaquille LEWIS Arrested Again

(CARDINAL, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged following two reported robberies in the village of Cardinal, in Edwardsburgh Cardinal Township.

On August 20, 2024, shortly before 11:30 a.m., the Grenville County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a robbery from a store on County Road 2, in Cardinal. Police were told a person had assaulted a store employee and stole cigarettes. A description of the suspect was provided to police.

A short time later, police received a report of a second robbery where another person had been assaulted, at a nearby public facility. A matching suspect description was given to responding officers.

At 12:40 p.m., the suspect was located by officers near County Road 2 and fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, the suspect was located and safely arrested by police.

As a result of the investigation, Shaquille LEWIS, 30 years of age, of Edwardsburgh Cardinal Township, was charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of fail to comply with Probation Order, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused was held for a bail hearing on August 21, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville.

James WHALEN – Drunk Driving

(PICTON, ON) Members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation.

On Monday, August 19, 2024 at approximately 3:00 a.m. officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 62 in Prince Edward County. Officers spoke to a driver and further investigation led to an approved screening device being administered. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. James WHALEN, age 39, from Belleville, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration

The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 11, 2024. They also had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for a period of seven days.

Serious Collision Closed Road In Howick

(HOWICK TWP, ON) – Three-vehicle serious collision closes Fordwich Line at Perth Road 178 in the Township of Howick.

On August 20, 2024, at 5:20 p.m., the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County OPP, North Perth Fire Department, Huron and Perth County Paramedic Services responded to a report of a serious collision involving three motor vehicles at the intersection of Fordwich Line and Perth Road 178.

Emergency responders located two injured vehicle occupants who were transported to local hospitals. One occupant was later airlifted to a London Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

Sections of Fordwich Line and Perth Road 178 were closed for the investigation but have since been re-opened.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision and obtain an update on the injured vehicle occupant, who remains in critical, but stable condition.

The Huron OPP is requesting anyone with information relating to this collision to call 1-888-310-1122.

Home Invasion – 2 Arrested

(NIPIGON, ON) – Two individuals are facing a lengthy list of charges following two Break and Enters and Robbery in the Town of Nipigon.

On August 15, 2024, around 2:20am members of the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call in the area of Hogan Road, Nipigon Township where they located two injured males. Further investigation revealed a second residence had been broken into by the same two suspects.

Around 9:00am, members of the Nipigon OPP Detachment located the two male suspects who were arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation, Christopher BARNES-ODAWA, 32-years-old, of Nipigon ON has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:

·        Assault Causing Bodily Harm, two counts

·       Utter Threats to cause death or bodily harm

·        Break, Enter Dwelling House with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence, two counts

·        Robbery with Theft

·        Mischief Under $5,000, two counts

Rodney WAWIA, 40-years-old, of Nipigon, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:

·        Assault Causing bodily harm, two counts

·        Break, Enter Dwelling House with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence, two counts

·        Robbery with Theft

·        Mischief Under $5,000, two counts

The accused are being held in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay at a later date.

Another Drunk Driver Arrested In Goderich

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Dublin area resident with an Impaired driving offence following a traffic stop in Goderich on August 04, 2024. 

Just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, August 04, 2024, Huron County OPP were patrolling in the Town of Goderich when they stopped a vehicle on Mitchell Street. Police spoke to the driver and determined that they had been drinking alcohol prior to driving. The investigating officer demanded a roadside breath sample from the driver, which resulted in a failure.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Huron OPP detachment where they provided further breath samples before a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician. Breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.

Jerrett VATERS, 25 years of age from Dublin has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80.

The accused was additionally charged with offences found in the Cannabis Control Act and the Liquor Licence Control Act.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on September 16, 2024.
