2 Dead Following Collision Near Dundalk

(SOUTHGATE, ON) – On January 27, 2025, at approximately 8:40 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Grey Road 9 and Southgate Sideroad 71, Township of Southgate.

Members of the Grey Bruce OPP attended the area with the Dundalk Fire Department and Dufferin County Paramedic Service and located a serious collision involving a commercial motor vehicle and a passenger vehicle.

As a result of the collision, a 49-year-old and a 15-year-old, both from Kitchener, were pronounced deceased. Additionally, a 19-year-old sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The identity of the deceased individuals will not be released out of respect for the family’s privacy.

The intersection was closed for the duration of the initial investigation but has now reopened. Members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team attended the scene to assist in the investigation.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Grey Bruce OPP.

We are urging the public to come forward with any information in relation to this matter; including any dash camera footage through the area around the time of the collision.

Genevieve RANSOM – Drunk Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – On January 27, 2025, at approximately 12:20 p.m., the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision on Keith Richardson Parkway, Townsend.

The investigation determined that the driver and lone occupant was treated for minor injuries.

As a result, 23-year-old Genevieve RANSOM of Simcoe has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Having Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available
  • Drive Motor Vehicle, no Currently Validated Permit

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on March 4, 2025.

Matthew DIRAIMO – Drunk Driving

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver involved in a single motor vehicle collision with impaired operation.

On January 27, 2025, shortly before 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a vehicle into the ditch on Winston Churchill Boulevard, near Bush Street, in the Town of Caledon. During the interaction, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Matthew DIRAIMO, 23, of Mississauga, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concertation (80 plus)

• Operation while impaired – alcohol 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on February 13, 2025, to answer to the charges. The driver’s licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven.

Break & Enter – 3 Arrested

(FORT FRANCES , ON) – Rainy River District Detachment (Fort Frances) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested three individuals following an investigation of a Break and Enter into a residence.

On January 26, 2025, just after 01:00 a.m. members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were dispatched to reports of a Break and Enter at a Fort Frances address

Upon attending the residence police observed signs that someone had recently been inside the residence other than the owner.

As a result of the investigation, the following individuals have been arrested:

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

Brodie FERGUSON – Drunk Driving

(SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with prohibited driving and impaired driving related charges.

On January 27, 2025, at approximately 8:33 a.m., Huronia West OPP officers responded to a suspicious vehicle in the area of Bayfield Street North in Springwater Township. Officers located the vehicle and while engaging with the driver, the officer noticed the driver showing signs of impairment which led into an impaired driving investigation. As a result, Brodie FERGUSON, 26-year-old of Collingwood, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

·      Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Kyle Bates Was Arrested

(ATIKOKAN, ON) – On January 26th, just before 9:00 p.m., members of the Rainy River District Detachment (Atikokan) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a motor vehicle swerving on Highway 11B in the Town of Atikokan

A short time after receiving the call officers located the subject motor vehicle on Highway 11B in Atikokan and conducted a traffic stop to ensure the driver was fit to operate a motor vehicle. As a result on the investigation Kyle Bates a 36-year-old male from Atikokan ON has been charged :

  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Operation while impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

In addition to the charges, the driver received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Assault

A 46-year-old Port Hope male was arrested and charged with assault after police were dispatched to a Cavan Street address in the early hours of January 25, 2025, regarding unwanted parties at the residence.

Upon arrival, police were able to identify the two unwanted individuals, who accused the complainant of threatening them with two knives and threatening to kill them during an altercation. As a result, one male was arrested for assault with a weapon and uttering death threats.

The male was released on an undertaking with set conditions.

Assault/Theft Under $5000

A 40-year-old Port Hope male was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm and theft under $5,000 after Police were dispatched to an apartment complex for a domestic situation.

On January 25th, in the late afternoon, officers attended the unit where they located a female in distress who informed police that a male known to her had squeezed her neck and had stolen her wallet containing an amount of cash, before leaving the residence. The female was transported to hospital and police attempted to locate the male but were unsuccessful.

During the evening shift, Port Hope Police were contacted by an unknown complainant, informing them that the male they were looking for could be found at a Port Hope Address. Upon arrival, the male was located and arrested for the above charges.

The male was released on an undertaking with conditions.

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 78 calls for service over a 24-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on January 27, 2025 to 5:00 am on January 28, 2025.

Family dispute leads to arrest and charges

On the 27th of January at 1:45pm, Belleville Police responded to a family dispute at a residence in the city’s east end.  Upon arrival, police spoke to the parties involved.  As a result of the investigation, a 15-year-old female was arrested and charged with assault, utter death threats and breach of Undertaking.  The victim was an adult female family member.  The 15-year-old was held in custody for a bail hearing. 

Cannabis Act charges

On the 27th of January at 3:00pm, police received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a possible impaired driver in the area of Keegan Pkwy and Foster Ave.  The caller was concerned as they had observed the occupants of the vehicle passing a bong back and forth while inside the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle in the area.  The driver did not exhibit any signs of impairment however the occupants of the vehicle were found to have cannabis readily available in the vehicle.  As a result, a 20-year-old Belleville man was issued a Provincial Offence Notice under the Cannabis Act.

A 38 year old St. Thomas resident wanted by police after being charged with two counts of Assault, has been arrested.  On Monday January 27th 2025, police attended the accused address and took them into custody. A 43 year old Mississauga resident has been arrested. On Monday January 27th 2025, STPS were contacted by the Waterloo Regional Police Service who had the individual in custody on the strength of our warrant for Criminal Harassment, stemming from an investigation in December of 2022. Officers attended Waterloo to take custody of the individual who was transported to St. Thomas police headquarters where they were processed and held for a morning court appearance. A 46 year old St. Thomas resident wanted by police after being charged with Failure to Comply with Undertaking, has been arrested. On Monday January 27th 2025, police attended the accused address and took them into custody. The individual was transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an appearance notice. ST25001560/1471

Theft

Approximately $300 of merchandise has been reported stolen from a retail store on Talbot Street. On Monday January 27th 2025, officers were called to the store by an employee who wished to report the incident. Upon arrival, police learned a verbal disagreement about returning an item had occurred and resulted in the customer leaving with $300 worth of merchandise. Video surveillance of the incident is being reviewed as police continue to investigate. ST25001547

Resist Arrest

A 23 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested after police were called to an address on St. Catherine’s Street, last night. Upon arrival, police learned the individual had left the area after stealing a wallet. Police located the 23 year old a short distance away and when informed of the grounds for their arrest, they actively resisted and refused to cooperate with the officer. Additional officers were called to assist and the 23 year old was arrested and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. Police investigate homicide near downtown 

The Windsor Police Service is investigating a homicide near downtown.

Shortly after 7 a.m. on January 27, 2025, officers responded to a call of unknown trouble in the 400 block of Wyandotte Street East. When officers arrived at the scene, they located an unresponsive man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Emergency Medical Services personnel performed immediate first aid on the victim and transported him to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The Windsor Police Major Crimes Unit has assumed control of the investigation and urge anyone with information about this crime to contact police. Additionally, residents and business owners in the vicinity are asked to review their surveillance or dash cam footage, specifically between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., for video evidence that may assist with the investigation.

4 Fatal Collisions

York Regional Police

York Regional Police is reminding the public of the shared responsibility of road safety after four people were recently charged in separate fatal collisions that occurred between September 2024 and January 2025.

Many collisions are preventable and there are a number of steps that the public can take to mitigate collisions and ensure that York Region roadways remain safe for all users.  

  • Monitor your speed: Excessive speed is the most common contributing factor to fatal collisions
  • Wear your seatbelt: Using a seatbelt is the most effective way to reduce the chance of injury or death in a motor vehicle collision
  • Don’t drive while impaired: Impaired driving remains the number one criminal cause of death in Canada. When you consume alcohol or drugs and drive, you risk the lives of your passengers, the lives of every other driver and pedestrian on the road and your own
  • Be an attentive driver: Collisions due to distracted driving are becoming increasingly common. Distractions can come from many sources, such as talking or texting on your phone, eating and reading

Since the last public appeal for more diligent operation of motor vehicles, investigators have charged four more drivers involved in fatal collisions.

Guelph Police Daily Update 28Jan2025

Students cautioned over AI-generated nudes

Two Guelph high school students were educated about child pornography offences earlier this month after they were found to have used an artificial intelligence program to create nude images of several classmates.

On January 13, the Guelph Police Service learned from a local school administrator about students in possession of images which appeared to depict other students in the nude.

Investigation revealed two 15-year-old males had used AI to create images of five female students using photos taken from the victims’ social media accounts. All five are aware of the investigation.

The two subject males were remorseful for their actions and have been referred to an educational program through the John Howard Society in lieu of charges.

$100k in cigarettes stolen

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after approximately $100,000 worth of cigarettes were stolen from an east-end business.

At 1:20 a.m. Sunday police were called by an alarm company reporting a break-in at a business near Victoria Road North and Grange Street.

Investigation revealed suspects used tools to pry open a door and interior metal gate. A large quantity of cigarettes were loaded into the back of a vehicle.

The incident is under investigation. Same business entered twice

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after the same downtown business was entered twice in consecutive days.

Just after 5 a.m. Sunday, the owner of a business near Gordon Street and Wellington Street called police to report he could see someone on video inside the business. Officers arrived a short time later and the suspect was gone. A small amount of cash was reported missing.

Just after 5 a.m. Monday, the complainant called to report a second break-in which had just occurred. Again a small amount of cash was reported missing. A tool was left behind by the suspect.

The subject male was described as white, 5’10” with a medium to stocky build. He was wearing a black or dark blue winter jacket with the hood up and a logo on the left chest, a royal blue hoodie underneath, black track pants with zippers on the thighs, black gloves, sunglasses and a black face covering.

Honda Civic stolen

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a Honda Civic was reported stolen.

Monday afternoon a resident near Edinburgh Road South and Water Street reported he had parked his car in the parking garage the previous afternoon and it was missing.

The vehicle was described as a black 2021 Honda Civic with chrome rims, a sunroof and tinted windows. It has a small dent on the rear under the Civic logo.

Michelle LARUE-SMITH Was Arrested

(LAKESHORE, ON) – A driver was arrested after police located a vehicle pulled onto the shoulder on Puce Road in the Municipality of Lakeshore.

On January 24, 2025, at approximately 9:20 a.m., the Essex County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a damaged vehicle being driven erratically on County Road 22 in Lakeshore.  

Police located the vehicle on the shoulder of Puce Road in Lakeshore.

Michelle LARUE-SMITH, 54-years-old of Lakeshore is charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Dangerous operation

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on February 6, 2025.

Yonis AHMED Was Arrested Again

(MOOSONEE, ON) – A 27-year-old individual is facing multiple charges after the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of reporting the individual threatening another person with a knife.

On January 26, 2025, at approximately 4:00 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call of a disturbance on Hutchison Road in Moosonee.

Officers learned that the accused had allegedly threatened the victim with a knife and uttered threats. Upon being arrested, the individual refused to provide any identification. However, through the use of fingerprint identification technology, police confirmed the identity of the accused and discovered that they were bound by multiple active probation orders.

As a result, Yonis AHMED, 27 years of age, from Toronto, has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Obstruct a peace officer
  • Fail to comply with a probation order – four counts

The accused remains in custody and is next scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Moosonee on March 5, 2025.
