Brittany NAYANOOKEESIC Arrested For Drunk Driving

(GREENSTONE) – One individual is facing impaired charges following a R.I.D.E program in Greenstone.

On March 16, 2024, just before 12:00 p.m., members of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E program in the area of Highway 584 in the Municipality of Greenstone. A vehicle approached the program, and the driver was requested to provide a breath sample.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Greenstone OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Brittany NAYANOOKEESIC, 28-years-old, of Geraldton, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and Cannabis Control Act with:

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·      Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greenstone on April 18, 2024.

The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.

Drivers are reminded that the Mandatory Alcohol Screening law allows police with an approved alcohol screening device to demand a roadside breath sample from any lawfully stopped driver without having reasonable suspicion that a driver is alcohol impaired.

More Impaired Drivers In Norfolk Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Three individuals were charged following an investigation into separate incidents of impaired driving.

At approximately 2:42 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment conducted a traffic stop and investigation involving a motor vehicle on Bay Street in Port Rowan, Norfolk County.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety at the roadside, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 25-year-old Marshal HAMMOND of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Speeding 1-49 km/h over posted speed limit.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

At approximately 10:33 p.m., an officer from the Norfolk County OPP Detachment conducted a traffic stop and investigation involving a motor vehicle on James Street in Delhi, Norfolk County.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety at the roadside, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 49-year-old Terri Lynn SCOTT of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle,
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle,
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit,
  • Fail to have insurance card.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

At approximately 12:39 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024, officers from the Norfolk OPP Detachment responded to and investigated a report of a neighbour dispute on Adams Avenue in Delhi, Norfolk County.

It was determined that one of the individuals involved, who was suspected of being impaired, attempted to leave the area in a vehicle.

Responding officers located the vehicle at the address and, after assessing the driver’s sobriety at the roadside, took them into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 60-year-old Stephen EMRICH of Norfolk County:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

Hwy 11 Drunk Driver Arrested – Name Released

(COCHRANE, ON) – A traffic stop conducted by the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) led to the driver being arrested for impaired driving.

On March 13, 2024, shortly before 8:00 p.m., the James Bay OPP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was observed swerved within its lane, on Highway 11, south of Cochrane. 

Police determined that the driver had been consuming an alcohol beverage, and the driver was arrested and transported to the Iroquois Falls detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Dan KUZMICH, 64 years of age of Iroquois Falls, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 28, 2024 in Cochrane. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

3 Criminals Caught On Camera – TRUDEL, HINES & KALU

(BLAIR TOWNSHIP, ON) – The West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of officers from the Sudbury Detachment of the OPP have arrested and charged three people with break and enter as well as multiple other offences.

On March 17, 2024, officers were called to a seasonal cottage after the owner observed people breaking into his cottage on security cameras. The owner of the cottage also called nearby neighbours who attended the cottage and prevented two suspects from leaving until police arrived. A third suspect fled on foot but was located nearby a short time later.   

As a result of the investigation three people were arrested:

Derrick TRUDEL, a 32-year-old person from North Bay was charged with:

  • Break and enter into a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence
  • Disguise with intent
  • Failure to comply with release order – two counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Mischief under $5,000

Brandon HINES, a 29-years-old person from North Bay was charged with:

  • Break and enter into a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence
  • Unlawfully in a dwelling house
  • Disguise with intent
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Mischief under $5,000  

Ugo KALU, a 37-years-old person from Sturgeon Falls was charged with, break and enter into a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence.

All three accused were held for bail and remanded into custody. Derrick TRUDEL and Ugo KALU are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on March 20, 2024. Brandon HINES is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on March 21, 2024.

Road Rage – One Arrested – Name Released

(NAIRN-HYMAN TOWNSHIP, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged following a road rage incident on Highway 17.

On March 15, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault with a weapon on Highway 17 in Nairn-Hyman Township.

It was reported that two vehicles had been involved in a road rage incident and stopped at the same truck stop. One driver brandished a knife and lunged at the other driver after being confronted. Police were able to locate the vehicle and arrest the driver.

As a result of the investigation, Dillaneous DUNCAN, 38-years-old, from Sudbury has been charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Use plate not in accordance with regulations
  • Commercial vehicle – follow too closely

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on May 6, 2024.

Fatal Collision Closes Hwy 7

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have closed Highway 7 for a serious collision involving four vehicles, east of Oakwood. 

On March 19, 2024, at approximately 6:08 p.m., officers responded, alongside with Kawartha Lakes Fire and EMS, to a head on collision involving four motor vehicles on Highway 7, east of Taylors Road

The driver, a 27-year-old male from Lindsay, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 65-year-old from North Bay, was transported to local hospital with minor injuries.

Highway 7 is closed from Opmar Road to Taylors Road for the foreseeable future while members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Team (T.I.M.E.) conduct their investigation.

Break & Enter – Nicholas BELEUTZ Arrested

(LAKESHORE, ON) – On March 7, 2024, members of the Leamington Detachment Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a Break and Enter from a residence in Comber, Municipality of Lakeshore.

Sometime between March 5 and March 7, 2024, unknown individuals had entered the residence and made off with electronics and a vehicle that was parked inside the garage.

With the assistance of the Essex County OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) an individual was identified.

On March 15, 2024, Officers from the Leamington Detachment were on ATV patrol of the Chrysler Greenway in the Municipality of Leamington and observed the individual who was responsible for the break and enter and was arrested without incident.

As a result, Nicholas BELEUTZ, 42 years-of-age of Leamington has been charged with:

·      Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 S.354(1)(a) CC.

·      Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code S.320.18(1)(a) (Ten Counts)

The accused was held in custody pending a bail heading at the Ontario Court of Justice-Windsor.

Hwy 11 Meth Bust – Names Released

(CALDER TOWNSHIP, ON) – Two people were arrested after police conducted a routine traffic stop.

On March 11, 2024, shortly before 8:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had no lights to the rear, on Highway 11 between Cochrane and Smooth Rock Falls. An investigation led to the arrest of the two occupants, and a subsequent search of the vehicle.

Police seized drugs suspected to be methamphetamine tablets, cannabis resin (hash), as well as bear spray, a large kitchen knife, and a small quantity of Canadian currency. A total estimated value of the seizure was $1700.

As a result of this investigation, Jonathan FORGER-HOTTE, 29-years-of-age of Mont Laurier, QC was charged with the following:

  • Trafficking a schedule I substance – Methamphetamines
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamines
  • Possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order – five counts
  • Possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing
  • Fail to comply with probation order

Further, Frederic PRIVE, 32 years-of-age of Saint Colomban, QC was charged with the following:

  • Trafficking a schedule I substance – Methamphetamines
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamines
  • Possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • No clear view to the sides
  • Drive without proper rear lights
  • No clear view to the rear

Both accused persons were released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 9, 2024 in Cochrane.

Collision Update: Driver From Mount Forest Now Deceased

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – A 47-year-old Mount Forest driver involved in a collision along Wellington Road18, has succumbed to their injuries.

On March 1, 2024, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious, motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 18, east of Fergus where a black Sport Utility Vehicle had left the roadway. The driver was transported to hospital but later died.

Midland OPP Weekend Update

(MIDLAND,ON) – Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment were kept busy over March 14-17, 2024 with traffic related incidents on Detachment patrolled roadways.

Impaired Drivers Investigated

Officers conducting a reduce impaired driving everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program on Heritage Drive at Wye Valley Road, Midland checked the driver of a passing through vehicle for signs of impairment near 11:50 p.m. March 15, 2024 and entered into a drinking and driving investigation. As a result, Wayne BALKWILL 60-years of Toronto has been charged criminally with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and further with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

A report of a vehicle being operated erratically in the Heritage Drive and King Street, Midland area caused officers to attend the area at approximately 11:17 p.m. March 14, 2024 who quickly located the suspect vehicle in a nearby parking lot. The driver was spoken to and arrested and investigated for drinking and driving offences.

Officers have charged Doreen STEVENSON 63- years of Oshawa criminally in relation to this investigation with the offences of Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and further with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and Dangerous operation.

Both accused persons were released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 28, 2024, served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicles were towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Serious Vehicle Crash Investigations

Investigators were dispatched at approximately 11:41 a.m. March 17, 2024 to a vehicle crash and roll-over in the ditch of Highway 12, Tay Township. As a result of the crash investigation the 21-year old (uninjured) male driver of Midland has been charged with the following offences – Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver, Careless driving, Use plate not authorized for vehicle, Class G1 licence holder – carry front-seat passenger, Operate unsafe vehicle all contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and further with Operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

Officers were also dispatched at approximately 6:53 p.m. March 13, 2024 to a single vehicle fatality on Simcoe County Road 27 in Tiny Township that was previously reported on March 14, 2024, which sadly claimed the life of a 31-year-old Tay Township male. The cause of that crash is still under investigation and investigators ask that anyone who may have witnessed the actions of the involved vehicle, a white Mini Cooper while east bound on Simcoe County Road 27 prior to the crash or of the crash itself or has dashcam video to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or [email protected].

Carrie MYLES – Drunk Driving

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On March 17, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a motorist regarding a possible impaired driver on Highway 17, Northshore Township.

The complainant reported following a white company truck swerving all over the road and having difficulty maintaining their lane. Police stopped the white truck and spoke to the driver. As a result, the driver was arrested and the vehicle was towed and impounded. 

Carrie MYLES, 35-years-old, from Hanmer was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 2, 2024.

Fatal Collision – One Arrested

(CALEDON, ON) – The Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a three-vehicle fatal collision on Mayfield Road.

On March 17, 2024, at approximately 2:53 a.m., officers, along with Caledon Fire and Emergency Services and Peel Paramedic Services, responded to a three-vehicle collision on Mayfield Road. The passenger in the first vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the first vehicle was transported to a hospital with critical injuries, and the accused, the driver of the third vehicle, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Mayfield Road between McLaughlin Road and Chinguacousy Road was closed for several hours while the OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Reconstructionists assisted with the investigation.

Amrinder DHILLON, 25-year-old of Oakville, has been charged with:

·        Operation causing death

·        Operation causing bodily harm

·        Obstruct Peace Officer

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 4, 2024.

Jeffrey GAGNE – Drunk Driving

(ADOLPHUSTOWN, ON) – Officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired driving.

On March 17, 2024, shortly after 7:00 p.m., officers from the L&A County OPP received a report of a possible impaired driver on the Glenora Ferry arriving at Highway 33 by Adolphustown. Police located the vehicle at a residence on County Road 8 by Highway 33. Police arrested the driver for impaired driving.

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged Jeffrey GAGNE, age 60, of Napanee, with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80plus)

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on April 9, 2024. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Danny DURNEZ – Drunk Driving

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – On March 17, 2024, at 12:04 p.m., a member of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), while on general patrol, observed a suspicious vehicle travelling on Ilderton Road in Middlesex Centre.

A traffic stop was initiated.

It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment where tests were administered.

As a result, Danny DURNEZ, a 64-year-old of London, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Liquor Licence Control Act with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on May 14, 2024.

The Middlesex OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.

Roger FLEMMING – Drunk Driving

(ORANGEVILLE) – The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one driver with an impaired operation related offence as the result of a traffic stop.

On March 17, 2024, just after 8:00 p.m., officers from Dufferin OPP conducted a traffic stop in the area of Broadway, in the Town of Orangeville. While speaking with the driver, officers were quickly led into an impaired operation investigation.

Roger FLEMMING, a 36-year-old male, from Shelburne has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to the charges. Their driver’s licence was suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.

Dufferin OPP continues to conduct traffic enforcement daily as drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs and who drive at excessive speeds continue to pose a threat to Ontario roads. We are committed to the safety of our community.
