Sydney BAIRD – Impaired Driving

(ESPANOLA, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged following a traffic stop in Espanola.

On April 8, 2024, shortly after 8:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting general patrol in the Town of Espanola. Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on James Street for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver was impaired. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Sydney BAIRD, 26-years-old from Baldwin Township has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance – two counts
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on May 6, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Tyler BROSSEAU – Drunk Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – A single vehicle collision resulted in impaired charges on the weekend.

On April 6, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision on Concession 4, Walpole.

The investigation determined that a vehicle left the roadway with the driver sustaining minor injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Tyler BROSSEAU, 31-years-old of Port Dover has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·      Operation While Impaired

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on May 28, 2024.

Ian WATSON – Drunk Driving

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) – The Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a driver after a vehicle struck another vehicle at a Seatbelt Enforcement check on the Easter Long Weekend.

On March 31, 2024, at approximately 4:55p.m., a vehicle rear-ended another vehicle on Highway 60 to Highway 11 Southbound. Officers were in the area ensuring occupants of vehicles were properly wearing their seatbelts when the collision occurred.

As a result of the investigation, Ian WATSON, 34 years of age, from the Town of Bracebridge was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – BAC (80 plus)

·      Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

·      Drive vehicle with liquor readily available

·      Drive vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on May 21, 2024.

Do You Recognize This Suspect?

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Police are seeking assistance from the public in identifying an individual connected to a shoplifting incident.

At approximately 12:28 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a theft at an address on Main Street in Port Dover, Norfolk County.

It was determined that sometime around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, an unidentified individual entered a business, proceeded to conceal consumable goods on their person, and subsequently left the store without making any efforts to pay for the items.

The individual of interest was described as follows:

  • Caucasian male
  • Heavy build
  • Short dark hair
  • Wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with dark shorts and brown sandals

A photograph depicting the individual of interest is attached for reference.

OPP Norfolk County Detachment members are actively conducting an ongoing investigation and are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the police at 1-888-310-1122.

Yvon VAILLANCOURT Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into an incident of impaired driving.

At approximately 3:43 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to and investigated a report of a pedestrian lying in the ditch next to a parked vehicle at a location on Lynedoch Road in Delhi, Norfolk County.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers established that the pedestrian was the driver of the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety at the roadside, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 76-year-old Yvon VAILLANCOURT of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Hunter ARMSTRONG – Theft, Impaired Driving

(WHITEFISH RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged as a result of a call for service.

On April 7, 2024, shortly after 1:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service regarding a person who attempted to steal a motor vehicle from a residence on Highway 6 in Whitefish River First Nation.

Further information provided to police was that the person left on foot. Upon arrival, police located this person walking on Highway 6, and they were subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Hunter ARMSTRONG, 19-years-old from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township has been charged with:

  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on May 7, 2024.

Repeat Offender WATSON Arrested Again

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – One individual was charged following an investigation into an incident involving harassment.

At approximately 5:32 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a report of harassment at an address on Donly Drive North in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that two individuals were engaged in a dispute that escalated to the victim receiving repeated contact from the other individual.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 24-year-old Adam WATSON of Norfolk County:

  • Criminal harassment – threatening conduct,
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order (two counts),
  • Allegation of breach of Conditional Sentence Order.

The accused was detained in custody to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe.

Hwy 11 Drunk Driver Arrested – Name Released

(DRIFTWOOD, ON) – An officer-initiated traffic stop, led to charges for impaired driving, and having open liquor and cannabis readily available in a vehicle.

On April 7, 2024, shortly after 4:00 p.m., a James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a vehicle with inconsistent speeds and swerving from shoulder to centre line, on Highway 11 in Driftwood.   

A traffic stop was conducted, and police determined that the driver had been consuming an alcohol beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Cochrane detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Monique LAURIN, 57 years of age of Tiny Township, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 23, 2024 in Cochrane. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The OPP reminds everyone that impaired driving continues to be a serious and preventable crime with potentially devastating consequences. We urge all drivers to make responsible choices before getting behind the wheel. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 911 and report it.

Kurtis ST. PIERRE – Criminal Harassment, Threats

(PERTH, ON) – A lengthy investigation has led to multiple harassment charges against a Drummond/North Elmsley Township resident.

An individual contacted the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in February to report incidents that had begun in late December 2023. Incidents are reported to have continued up to April 8, 2024.

On April 8, 2024, Kurtis ST. PIERRE, age 36, was arrested and charged with:

  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – two counts
  • Criminal Harassment- threatening conduct – three counts

The accused was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on May 6, 2024.

One Dead In Side-by-Side Incident

(TUDOR & CASHEL TWP, ON) – The Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after one person was located deceased following an off-road vehicle incident.

First responders were called to an Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club (OFSC) trail, north of Cleveland Road in Tudor and Cashel Township on April 7, 2024, shortly before 3:30 p.m.

A side-by-side off-road vehicle had left the trail and had rolled over in deep water.

OPP officers and Madoc Township Firefighters were able to free the man from the vehicle and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics were at the scene. The male, identified as a 65-year-old from Prince Edward County, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Hayden LEBLANC – Drunk Driving

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On April 7th, 2024 at approximately 11:20 p.m., officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting stationary radar along Highway 11-17 near Balsam Street & conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding.

Through the investigation, it was determined the driver of the motor vehicle had been consuming alcoholic beverages, was placed under arrest & returned to the detachment for further tests.

As a result of the investigation, Hayden LEBLANC, 30, of Thunder Bay was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus);

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on May 14th, 2024.

4 Charged In Murder Investigation

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – Additional charges have been laid in connection with a death in early January in Quinte West.

On January 7, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., members of the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a well-being check at a motel on Dundas Street East. Officers located Kiean STODDARD, 17 years old from Quinte West, deceased at that location. 

As a result of the investigation, five people have been arrested and charged with First Degree Murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code:

  • · Morgan BELYEA, 22 years old of Belleville
  • · Steven COURNEYEA, 27 years old of Belleville
  • · Harold RUSSELL, 43 years old of Quinte West 
  • · Aaron RYAN, 28 years old of Quinte West
  • · Khadijah COURNEYEA, 29 years old of Quinte West. 

BELYEA, Steven COURNEYEA and RUSSELL, have further been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

·        Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Sec. 465(1)(a)

·        Robbery with Weapon, Sec. 344(1)(b)

Khadijah COURNEYEA and RYAN have further been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

·        Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Sec. 465(1)(a)

·        Robbery with Weapon, Sec. 344(1)(b)

·        Obstruct Peace Officer, Sec. 129(a)

The investigation continues under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Two More Impaired Drivers – Names Released

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have recently charged two motorists with operation while impaired.

On April 3, 2024, just before 12:00 a.m., Caledon OPP officers conducted a traffic stop upon a motor vehicle, while patrolling the area of Airport Road and Olde Base Line Road, in the Town of Caledon. Officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.  

As a result, David BALDWIN, 48, of Caledon, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero

On April 7, 2024, shortly after 12:00 a.m., Caledon OPP officers conducted a traffic stop upon a motor vehicle, while patrolling the area of Mayfield Road and McLaughlin Road, in the Town of Caledon. Officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested. 

As a result, Gurwinder DHALIWAL, 24, of Brampton, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Both drivers are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 25, 2024, to answer to the charges. Additionally, both vehicles were impounded for a period of seven days, and their driver’s licence suspended for a period of 90 days.

Repeat Offender Melissa GAUDET Arrested For Assault

(HEARST, ON) – One person was arrested for assault and criminal harassment in Hearst.

On March 26, 2024, shortly before 9:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call reporting that the caller had been grabbed and then followed by a person not known to them, on George Street in Hearst.

The suspect had left the scene prior to police arrival, and police were unable to locate them. Police conducted an extensive follow up investigation and were able to identify the suspect.

On April 2, 2024, shortly before 12:00 p.m., police received a call from the same victim, reporting the same suspect had approached them, and had been waiting for them outside of their workplace.

As a result of this investigation, Melissa GAUDET, 34-years-of-age, of Hearst, was arrested and charged with the following:

·        Assault

·        Criminal Harassment – repeatedly follow, watch and beset

·        Fail to comply with probation order (two counts)

The accused was released from a bail hearing and is set to appear before the Ontario Court in Hearst on a May 15, 2024.

Connor HELE – Drunk Driving

(SELWYN TOWNSHIP, ON) – A driver has been charged with Impaired driving after their vehicle was stopped for speeding.

On April 6, 2024, at approximately 10:30pm, the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle for speeding on Chemong Road in Selwyn Township. The officer who was conducting speed enforcement, obtained a speed reading of 95km/hr in the posted 50km/hr zone and initiated a traffic stop.

While dealing with the driver, the officer detected an odour of alcohol and made an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand. The driver provided a sample of his breath and as a result was arrested.

Connor HELE (age 24) of Selwyn Township, ON, was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive speed

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for 14 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on May 7, 2024.
