Fatal Pedestrian Collision

(PERTH EAST, ON) – A pedestrian is deceased following a collision north of Milverton.

On June 25, 2024 at approximately 10:59 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Perth East Fire Department responded to a collision involving a single motor vehicle and a pedestrian on Perth Road 131.

The pedestrian, a 47-year-old individual from Waterloo, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Perth County OPP, with the assistance of the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team continues to investigate the collision.

Perth Road 131 between Line 67 and Line 72 was closed for several hours to allow for investigation. The road has since seen reopened.

Justin LACOSSE Was Arrested

(CARLING, ON) – The West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one person with multiple offences.

On June 25, 2024, shortly after 10:00 p.m. members of the West Parry Sound OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) check on Highway 69 in Carling Township. Officers stopped a vehicle to check the sobriety of the driver and initiated an impaired driving investigation.

As a result of the investigation, Justin LACOSSE, 30 years-of-age of Parry Sound Ontario was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 15, 2024. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The West Parry Sound OPP would like to remind the public to call 911 should they suspect impaired driving.

Fatal Collision

(TORONTO, ON) – Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division (HSD) – Toronto Detachment, investigated a two-vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound, express lanes at Keele Street in the City of Toronto.

 On Tuesday June 25, 2024, at 6:46 p.m., the OPP were called to a disabled tractor trailer on Highway 401 westbound, express lanes at Keele Street in the City of Toronto. At 6:50 p.m. the OPP received a call that a van had collided with the tractor trailer.

 The van was traveling westbound in the express lanes of Highway 401 when it collided with the tractor trailer. As a result of the collision, the driver, the sole occupant of the van, a 25-year-old-male from Toronto, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

 The OPP-HSD Traffic Support Unit assisted with the investigation. Highway 401 westbound at Keele Street was closed for approximately 4 hours for the collision investigation.

Drug & Weapons Bust

(PEMBROKE, ON) – Four individuals are facing drug and weapons-related charges after a traffic stop in the City of Pembroke.

On the afternoon of June 21, 2024, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with the assistance of patrol officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the OPP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Hunter Street in Pembroke.

Brass knuckles and a quantity of suspected cocaine were seized by police. Three occupants of the vehicle were arrested without incident  A fourth individual was arrested after a foot chase and an officer sustained minor injuries after being assaulted.   

As a result of the investigation 33-year-old Tyler GODERRE of Pembroke, 20-year-old Patricia GOULET-COUSINEAU of Pembroke, 31-year-old Kyle JONES of Pembroke, and 30-year-old Terry TURCOTTE of Pembroke have each been charged with the following Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
  • Possession of a prohibited device

TURCOTTE faces the following additional CC charges:

  • Assault a peace officer
  • Resist a peace officer
  • Fail to comply with a probation order – two counts

GODERRE faces the following additional CC charge:

  • Obstruct peace officer

JONES faces the following additional Highway Traffic Act (HTA) charge:

  • Driving under licence of another jurisdiction while suspended in Ontario

TURCOTTE was held for bail hearing and remains in custody until his next court appearance on June 28, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke. GODERRE was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on July 29, 2024. JONES and GOULET-COUSINEAU were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on July 30, 2024.

Lawrence MACADAM Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into a shoplifting incident in Port Dover.

At approximately 2:51 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a theft on Market Street East in Port Dover, Norfolk County.

It was determined that around 4:05 p.m. the previous day, an individual entered a business, concealed a quantity of alcohol on their person, and left without paying.

Around 5:15 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024, officers located the suspect at an address on Kelly Drive in Port Dover, Norfolk County. The suspect was then taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 50-year-old Lawrence MACADAM of Norfolk County:

  • Theft under $5,000 – shoplifting.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

Peter BACK: Drunk Driving

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – An Elliot Lake resident was charged with impaired after an early morning complaint at a downtown parking lot. 

On June 25, 2024, at approximately 9:00 a.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of man drinking in his car at a grocery store parking lot. Police located the man in the driver’s seat of his vehicle and beer under the seat. He was subsequently arrested and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Peter BACK, 65-years-old, from Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on August 15, 2024.

Amanda STARLING Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into an incident of impaired driving in Simcoe.

At approximately 3:16 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024, and officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment was patrolling near Queensway East and Norfolk Street North in Simcoe, Norfolk County, when a vehicle stopped at the intersection drew their attention.

After conducting a roadside sobriety assessment, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 38-year-old Amanda STARLING of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
  • Driving while under suspension.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

Attempted Armed Robbery: Names Released

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged three people with attempted robbery and related offences after an investigation in West Nipissing.

On June 21, 2024, shortly before 12:00 p.m., members from the Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit and OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit arrested three people on Des Cedres Street.

As a result of the investigation, three individuals were charged.

Keino HEATH, 32 years of age of Oshawa, David NEWMAN, 27 years of age of Caledon, and Roderick NEWMAN, 32 years of age of Cobourg, were all charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Conspiracy to commit indictable offence, section 465(1)(c)
  • Attempted Robbery with violence, section 343(a)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, section 354(1)(a)

The accused were held for a bail hearing and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on June 25, 2024.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

$600,000 Worth of Stolen Property Recovered, Numerous Charges Laid

(PERTH, GREY, and HURON COUNTIES, ON) – One person is facing a number of charges following a property crime investigation that spanned multiple jurisdictions.

On June 17, 2024, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huron-Perth Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with the assistance of the Halton Regional Police, arrested one person following an ongoing investigation. 

On June 18, 2024, Huron-Perth CSCU executed a search warrant at a storage location in the Municipality of West Perth, where stolen property was recovered.

On June 19, 2024, Huron-Perth CSCU, with the assistance of the Perth County OPP Major Crimes Unit and the Grey-Bruce CSCU, another search warrant was executed at a rural property on Highway 10 in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

Property that had been stolen from multiple jurisdictions was recovered during the search warrants. Stolen from Perth County was: a New Holland Skid Steer, Somero concrete laser leveling screed, Pace enclosed trailer, Skidoo MXZ snowmobile, and various tools. Stolen from Bruce was a Can Am four-wheeler. Stolen from Huron was a Ford F150, Ford 450, Bobcat stand-on mini loader, and a Tow Tec enclosed trailer. Stolen from Oxford County was a Rockwood Mini Lite travel trailer. Stolen from Middlesex was a GMC Duramax truck. Additionally, a dual axle dump trailer, an enclosed dual axle trailer, flatbed dual axle trailer, two generators, a shot gun and SKS rifle, along with ammunition and two modified magazines were recovered.

The total estimated value of the recovered stolen property is approximately $600,000.

In Perth County, Barren YUNDT, 32, of Grey Highlands, has been charged with:

–      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 (three counts)

–      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 (three counts)

–      Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code (three counts)

–      Fraudulent Concealment

In Grey County, the accused was also charged with:

–      Possession of a Firearm (two counts)

–      Possession of a prohibited device (modified magazines) (two counts)

–      Careless Storage of a Firearm (two counts)

–      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 (seven counts)

–      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 (nine counts)

–      Altering/Removing/Destroying Vehicle Identification Number (three counts)

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.

Clayton WHITE Was Arrested Again

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) – The Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver who failed to remain at the scene of a collision.    

On June 23, 2024, shortly before 6:30 a.m., officers of the Huntsville OPP detachment responded to a report of a single motor-vehicle collision on HWY 141 at Muskoka Road 35, in the Town of Huntsville. Officers located a vehicle in the ditch with significant damage. Witnesses advised that driver and an occupant had left the scene.  

On June 24, 2024, shortly after 9:00 p.m., police responded to a theft in progress on  Highway 60 in Algonquin Highlands Township. Upon police arrival, it was determined that the person involved was the driver of the motor vehicle from the day prior and was subsequently arrested.

Clayton WHITE, 35-years-old of Huntsville was charged with:

·      Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code- 2 counts

·      Mischief – destroys or damages property – 2 counts

·      Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm

·      Theft under $5000

·      Dangerous operation

·      Theft of Motor Vehicle

·      Fail to Comply with Probation Order

·      Failure to stop after accident

·      Drive motor vehicle, no plates

·      Driving while under suspension

·      Drive motor vehicle – no licence

Minor injuries were sustained as a result of the collision.   

The accused was held in custody for a Bail Hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge.

Another Grooming/Pride Flag Stolen

(PERTH EAST, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a theft that occurred in the Township of Perth East.

Sometime between Friday June 21, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday June 22, 2024 at 7:00 a.m., individual(s) stole the Canadian flag and Pride flag from the front lawn of a business on Mill St East in the town of Milverton.  The flags had been flying at half mast at the time of the theft.  The Canadian flag was located a short distance away, but the Pride flag has not been recovered.

Police are requesting assistance from the public regarding any information, or video surveillance in the area of Mill St East in Milverton.

The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided when available.

Do You Recognize This Theft Suspect

(MEAFORD, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating three break and enters and one theft in the Municipality of Meaford. The OPP have received video footage of a person of interest. The OPP is asking the public for assistance in identifying this individual. (photo attached)

On June 23, 2024, at 8:31 p.m., the Grey Bruce OPP were dispatched to a break and enter on Albert Street between Thompson Street and Victor Street in the Municipality of Meaford. It is believed that the break and enter occurred on this date between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Approximately $300 in camping supplies was taken.

On June 24, 2024, the Grey Bruce OPP received three separate calls for break and enters in Meaford. 

At 9:09 a.m. a resident on Parker Street West, West of Thompson Street in the Municipality of Meaford called police to report that an individual stole a bicycle from their shed. The bicycle was valued at $200. The caller has video surveillance but did not capture the suspect well. It appeared that the suspect attended the residence on June 23, 2024, at midnight (going into June 24, 2024).

At 10:12 a.m., a resident on Birchwood Court in the Municipality of Meaford called police to report a few bicycles stolen from their property. 

At 12:15 a.m., a resident on Parker Street West, West of Thompson Street in the Municipality of Meaford called police to report a break and enter. 

The last two occurrences are still in the early stages of investigation and more information will be provided as it becomes available.

Police are asking residents in the areas of:

·      Albert Street between Thompson Street and Victor Street in the Municipality of Meaford to check their video surveillance on June 23, 2024, between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

·      Parker Street West, West of Thompson Street in the Municipality of Meaford to check their video surveillance on June 23, 2024, at midnight (going into June 24, 2024).

·      Birchwood Court before June 24, 2024, at 10:12 a.m.

It is important for homeowners to report all break and enters to police.

Kristan MILLER: Drug Trafficking

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – A Brampton resident is facing numerous charges following a search warrant execution in the City of Thunder Bay.

On June 21, 2024, shortly before 2:00 p.m., members of the Thunder Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit with the assistance of the Thunder Bay OPP Detachment, OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, and Thunder Bay Police Service, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant at a residence on Newberry Crescent.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of one individual and the seizure of numerous suspected illicit substances including fentanyl, methamphetamine, ecstasy. Six rounds of ammunition, Canadian currency, and other items associated with drug trafficking were also seized.

As a result, Kristan MILLER, 31-years-old, of Brampton, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and CDSA with:

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methylenedioxyamphetamine (Ecstasy)

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine  

·        Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order – two counts

·        Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay at a later date.

Curtis ANDERSON: Break & Enter

(BROCKTON, ON) – On June 24, 2024, at 11:38 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break and enter to a property along Chepstow Road in the Municipality of Brockton. Officers arrived and located an individual nearby who was taken into custody without incident.

Curtis ANDERSON, 30-years-old, from the Municipality of Brockton was charged with:

  • Break and Enter
  • Mischief under $5000
  • Possession of Stolen Property

The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton to answer to the charges.

Donald WILSON Was Arrested

(GEORGIAN BAY TOWNSHIP,ON) – Numerous calls at approximately 4:22 p.m. June 22, 2024 to the OPP Communication Centre reporting a south bound highway 400 vehicle had gone off the roadway into the ditch resulted in a member of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment being dispatched to the Port Severn area to locate the occupants of the vehicle.

The officer was able to locate the three occupants including a child, who were not injured but the identified driver became the subject of an impaired driving investigation.

As a result of this investigation Orillia resident Donald WILSON 42 years of age has been charged criminally with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

And Further with the following Provincial Offences

  • Driving while under suspension
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 4, 2024, was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.
