200+ Victims Defrauded – Names Released

(TORONTO, ON) – Members of Ontario’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) have arrested two more individuals following a criminal investigation linked to a door-to-door sales fraud which victimized over 200 people across Ontario. In this fraud scheme, salespeople attended the homes of older adults and vulnerable people to initiate frauds where victims unknowingly entered into home service and/or renovation agreements at exorbitant prices. Many victims believed they were getting services/installations and renovations for free through government grants or rebates. 

Organizers of this fraud then used the fake agreements to register Notice of Security Interest’s (NOSIs) against victims’ homes without their knowledge. Later, these NOSIs were paid off to the benefit of the organizers using fraudulent, high-interest mortgages against the victims’ homes. In many cases, this fraud left the victims in financial peril; and in some cases, forced the victims to sell their homes.

As a result of the investigation, police charged two individuals under the Criminal Code:

Austin ACHESON, age 29, of Woodbridge, has been charged with:

·      Fraud Over $5000 – two counts

Danielle HARRISON, age 39, of Mississauga, has been charged with:

·      Fraud Over $5000 – three counts

·      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

The accused were arrested on October 15 and 17, 2024 and were subsequently released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto in November.

Wendy DINDIA – Impaired Driving

(HEARST, ON) – A traffic stop for no licence plate led to an impaired driving arrest on Highway 11.

On October 21, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11 west of Hearst.

Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined that the driver had been consuming an intoxicated substance. The driver was arrested and transported to the Hearst detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Wendy DINDIA, 65 years of age of Whitehorse, YT, was charged with operation while impaired – drugs.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on December 18, 2024, in Hearst. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Samuel JENNINGS – Drunk Driving

(AMARANTH, ON) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Orangeville resident with impaired operation related offences as the result of a motor vehicle collision (MVC).

On October 26, 2024, just before 6:00 p.m., Dufferin OPP officers were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision in the area of County Road 11 in the Township of Amaranth. The officers arrived on scene and were quickly led into an impaired driving investigation.

Samuel JENNINGS, a 27-year-old male, from Orangeville has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused individual is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville. Their driver’s licence was suspended 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Northumberland OPP Update

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested several persons as a result of unrelated traffic incidents over the weekend.

On October 25, 2024, at around 5:20 p.m., while on Veronica Street in Cobourg, officers observed a motorist who was known to be prohibited from driving and wanted on a warrant. The driver was stopped by police and the individual was placed under arrest.

As a result, William BUDD, 41-years-old, from the Township of Alnwick-Haldimand, has been charged with:

–       Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code

The individual was held for bail and their vehicle was impounded for 45-days.

On October 26, 2024, shortly before 5:30 p.m., OPP and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on private property in the area of Lakehurst Street in the Municipality of Brighton.

Officers arrived at the location where the driver had struck a family member who was outside of the passenger vehicle. The person was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Upon speaking to the driver, police entered into an impaired operation investigation where an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made. As a result, the accused was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further tests.

An 81-year-old, from Brighton, has been charged with:

–       Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–       Operation causing bodily harm.

The driver shall not be named to protect the identity of the victim. In addition to a future court date, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

On October 26, 2024, at approximately 10:35 p.m., police were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 eastbound in the Municipality of Port Hope. A pick-up truck was observed travelling at a speed of 146 Km/h in a posted 110 Km/h limit. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver provided the information of another person. Through investigation, the driver was found to be suspended from driving. Following a search of the vehicle, 15 grams of suspected cocaine was seized with an approximate street value of $1,350. The pick-up truck was also found to have a defect.

Dalton CHISHOLM, 30-years-old, from Uxbridge has been charged with:

–       Obstruct peace officer

–       Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice

–       Possession of a Schedule I substance – Cocaine

–       Driving while under suspension – two counts

–       Operate unsafe vehicle

–       Speeding 1- 49 Km/h over posted limit.

In addition to a future court date, the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

On October 27, 2024, at around 4:35 a.m., OPP received a traffic complaint in relation to a passenger vehicle which was travelling eastbound on Highway 401 in the Municipality of Port Hope. Officers located a vehicle matching the description provided and observed it to be driven in an erratic manner an unable to maintain it’s lane before coming to a stop in the middle of the highway. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired operation and was transported to a local detachment for further tests from a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE).

Trevonn MORLESE, 31-years-old, from Toronto, has been charged with:

–       Dangerous operation

–       Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

In addition to a future court date, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

On October 28, 2024, at approximately 3:45 a.m., officers were assisting with lane closures at the scene of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound in the Township of Hamilton. Police observed a vehicle enter one of the two closed lanes where there were numerous Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and tow truck vehicles, all with flashing lights on. The motorist then performed an overtake of another vehicle before returning to the single open lane.

OPP signaled the vehicle to stop and as it was slowing down, the driver and passenger switched seats.

Through investigation, the initial driver was found to be committing bail violations.

As a result, Louis VIOLA, 24-years-old, from Laval, Quebec, was arrested and charged with:

–       Obstruct peace officer

–       Fail to comply with probation order – two counts

–       Fail to slow down and proceed with caution for emergency vehicle or tow truck.

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

The OPP is committed to reducing and preventing injuries on roads, highways, waterways, and trails, while enhancing safety for motorists and all other road users through public education and enforcement.

Douglas STUTT – Assault, Threats, Etc.

(LAMBTON SHORES, ON) – The Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one individual following a disturbance.

On October 28, 2024, shortly after 9:00 p.m., the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a disturbance at an address on Arkona Road, Municipality of Lambton Shores.

There were no reported injuries related to the incident.

As a result of the investigation, Douglas STUTT, 62-year-old of Lambton Shores was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with the following offences:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Assault
  • Dangerous operation
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on December 12, 2024, in the City of Sarnia.

Collision Closed Lucknow Line

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH TOWNSHIP, ON) – Serious collision closes Lucknow Line at Nile Road in ACW Township.

On October 28th, 2024, at 12:20 p.m., the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Lucknow Fire Department, Goderich Fire Department, and Huron County Paramedic Services responded to a report of a serious collision involving two motor vehicles at the intersection of Lucknow Line and Nile Road.

A pickup truck and passenger car were involved in the collision. The intersection is controlled by stop signs on Nile Road for traffic travelling east and west.

Emergency responders located five injured vehicle occupants who were transported to local hospitals, one of which was later transported to a London Hospital with more serious injuries. A sixth vehicle occupant was not injured.

The OPP closed sections of Lucknow Line and Nile Road for the investigation. Roads were later re-opened. Thankfully, all injuries were reported to be non-life threatening.

The cause of the collision is being investigated.

The OPP would like to remind all motorists to pay attention to posted traffic signage, stay alert, and always wear your seatbelts. “You never know when you may need them!”, states Constable Craig Soldan of the Huron OPP.

Isaac FITZ – Drunk Driving

(PERRY TOWNSHIP) – Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charge one person with impaired driving.

On October 26, 2024, at approximately 11:25 p.m., the Almaguin Highlands OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Boundary Road, Perry Township.

Through investigation, the driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to a nearby detachment for further testing.

Isaac FITZ, 21 years-of-age of North Bay was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Careless driving

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 14, 2024, in Sundridge.

The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Brian EDWARDS Was Arrested Again

(TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – An unrelated investigation leads to one person being arrested and charged with the theft of a motor vehicle.

On October 28, 2024, the Temiskaming Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft of a 2023 Black Ford F150 from an address on Cross Lake Road in North Cobalt. The truck is believed to have been stolen between the hours of 3:30 am and 6:30 am on that date.

As a result of the investigation, Brian EDWARDS, 44-year-old of Temiskaming Shores, was arrested, charged with:

  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Possession of an identity document
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Failure to comply with release order

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on October 29, 2024.

$95,000 In Silver Allegedly Stolen

(MEAFORD, ON) – On October 23, 2024, at 1:37 p.m., the Grey Bruce OPP responded to a report of a theft from a residence in the Municipality of Meaford.

As a result of the investigation, the Grey Bruce OPP learned that over the span of two years, approximately $95,992.00 of silver bars were stolen from the victims residence.

Home Invasion – 2 Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Two individuals have been charged in relation to an active home invasion investigation in Simcoe, while a third suspect remains at large.

At approximately 10:54 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to a home invasion on Grove Street in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that three individuals unlawfully entered a residence on the property, where they interacted with seven occupants, some of whom reported minor injuries. The suspects were also armed with what appeared to be firearms during the incident.

Afterward, they fled the scene in a red sedan.

Around 10:32 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, the Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Lockie Drive in Oshawa, Ontario.

As a result, two of the suspects were taken into custody without incident.

During the search of the residence and property, investigators located and seized a replica firearm along with the vehicle involved in the incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 24-year-old Akhil KRISHNAN of Oshawa, Ontario:

  • Assault (two counts),
  • Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence,
  • Firearm – use while committing offence,
  • Forcible confinement (seven counts),
  • Mischief – obstructs, interrupts, or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property (two counts),
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon,
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose,
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 26-year-old Ambady SAJEEV of Oshawa, Ontario:

  • Assault (two counts),
  • Assault with a weapon,
  • Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence,
  • Firearm – use while committing offence,
  • Forcible confinement (seven counts),
  • Mischief – obstructs, interrupts, or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property (two counts),
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon,
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose,
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm,
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm (two counts).

The accused individuals remain in custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

Efforts to identify and locate the third suspect, who is described as a heavy-set male, are still underway.

Another Dies In Police Custody

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – One person has been pronounced deceased and the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate in the City of Elliot Lake. 

On October 27, 2024, shortly before 1:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service on Westhill Road, where one person was placed under arrest. While in custody, the individual went into medical distress and was transported to hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. 

The OPP has notified the SIU, which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide further information. Any other media inquiries should be directed to the SIU at [email protected].

Jerry Lee GILBERT Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Following an investigation into stolen property, one individual has been charged after a search warrant was executed at a property on Windham Road 13.

In September 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment’s Preventing Auto Theft Unit, with support from the Haldimand/Norfolk OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), initiated an investigation into stolen property linked to an address on Windham Road 13 in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

Around 7:13 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, the Norfolk County OPP Preventing Auto Theft Unit, along with the Haldimand/Norfolk OPP CSCU, executed a search warrant at the same address.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

While searching the property, officers located and seized five stolen vehicles, two utility trailers, numerous vehicle parts, and vehicle accessories, with an estimated total value of $200,000.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 48-year-old Jerry Lee GILBERT of Norfolk County:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – in Canada (five counts),
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $,5000 – in Canada (two counts).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

Another Pedestrian Struck

(SUDBURY, ON) – A pedestrian was transported to the local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle.

On October 26, 2024, at approximately 12:40 p.m., the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian on Highway 144, Chelmsford.

The pedestrian was struck while crossing in the crosswalk by a vehicle attempting to make a left-hand turn and then was transported to the local hospital by EMS.

As a result of the investigation, a 64-year-old-person, from Chelmsford, was charged with, fail to yield to pedestrian on roadway.

The OPP would like to remind motorists, to come to a full stop when approaching a crosswalk with pedestrians waiting to cross, yield the right of way and wait until they have crossed completely. Stay alert and avoid distractions like texting or using your phone and watch for pedestrians at all times.

Pedestrian Struck In Hit & Run

(BRANT COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Brant County Detachment are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a vehicle involved in a fail to remain collision involving a pedestrian on Baptist Church Road in the County of Brant.

On Sunday October 27, 2024, at approximately 5:58 a.m., Brant County OPP members responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian. The investigation determined that an individual was on Baptist Church Road near McBay Road on October 27, 2024 between 1:00 a.m. and 2 a.m., when they were struck by a small white passenger vehicle. The vehicle involved is believed to be a newer model Mazda and will possibly have passenger side damage. It was last observed travelling westbound on Baptist Church Road. The individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at an area hospital.

Angel RODRIGUEZ – Drunk Driving

(SOUTHWEST MIDDLESEX, ON) – Driver facing Impaired driving charge after traffic complaint.

On October 27, 2024, at 1:54 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were dispatched to Appin Road in the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex for the report of a traffic complaint from a member of the public.

The vehicle was located at which time a traffic stop was initiated.

It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Angel RODRIGUEZ, a 32-year-old of Lambton County, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on November 26, 2024.
