Home Invasion – Police Seek Help

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) currently have a person in custody following an early morning home invasion.

On January 2, 2025, shortly after 5:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to a private residence on Ann McKee Street in Caledon East for a report of a home invasion in progress. Officers attended and later arrested a suspect, who remains in police custody at this time.

The suspect was operating a black Jeep Wrangler (see attached photograph). Investigators are looking for surveillance or dashcam footage of the area on January 2, 2025, between the hours of 5:15 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. It is believed that this was a targeted incident and that there is no imminent threat to public safety.

Arrests At RIDE

(CENTRE HASTINGS, ON) – The Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid an impaired driving charge and other charges at Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs.

On Thursday, December 26, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., Central Hastings OPP officers were conducting a RIDE at Cordova Road in the Municipality of Marmora and Lake. A roadside screening device was utilized on one driver and the individual was transported to the detachment for further testing.

Josh HUGHES, age 37 of Marmora was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The individual’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days (Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension) and vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

On Sunday, December 29, 2024, just after midnight. Central Hastings OPP was conducting a RIDE program on Durham Street in the Village of Madoc. One motorist registered an “alert” on the roadside screening device. As a result, the 20-year-old male from Tweed was issued a three-day Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension. He was also charged for having liquor readily available in the vehicle.

On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 11:45 p.m., officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 37, just south of Highway 7 in the Municipality of Tweed. They encountered a novice driver who was unable who was unable to surrender his driver’s licence, had no proof of insurance and was using a licence plate not authorized for the vehicle. A 22-year-old from Brampton was charged and his vehicle was towed from the scene.

Pervert Alert: Matthew WIPER Arrested – Details Released

(LEAMINGTON, ON) The Leamington Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual following a suspicious person investigation.

On December 29, 2024, at approximately 11:19 p.m., members of the Leamington OPP Detachment received a report of a suspicious individual at a residence on Deer Run Road in the Municipality of Leamington.

As a result of the investigation, Matthew WIPER, 42-year-old of Leamington, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

·        Voyeurism

·        Trespassing at Night

·        Public Mischief

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on January 17, 2025.

The Essex County OPP Crime Unit continues to investigate, as investigators believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Essex County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

A publication ban has been issued and further information will not be released.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid a number of charges in unrelated incidents of impaired driving.

On January 1, 2025, at approximately 1:10 a.m., police received a call from a member of the public regarding a single vehicle motor vehicle collision on Grills Road in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand.

Officers arrived at the location and found an unoccupied passenger vehicle with minor damage. OPP spoke to the caller and investigators were able to locate the uninjured driver at a nearby address.

Police began an impaired operation investigation, and the accused was taken into custody before being transported to a local detachment for further tests.

Joseph MAIKA (age 54) from the Municipality of Trent Hills, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Fail to report accident

–      Careless driving.

On January 1, 2025, at around 2:50 a.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area of Spring Street in the Township of Cramahe. The caller advised that there were persons knocking on doors and individuals were near a neighbour’s property. The caller was able to describe two vehicles and how one was attempting to tow the other.

Officers proceeded to the area and observed one of the described vehicles travelling at a high rate of speed on County Road 25 and not in control as it tried to pass another vehicle.

Police parked a cruiser in an effort to stop the passenger vehicle however the accused attempted to evade officers and in doing so, collided with the cruiser causing minimal damage and then continued on.

The driver then lost control of their vehicle and entered the ditch as they approached Old Hastings Road. The uninjured individual was then taken into custody along with the commencement of an impaired operation investigation by police. Further lines of inquiry yielded driving prohibitions.

Alexander GREYSTOCK (age 30) from the Township of Douro-Dummer, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Flight from peace officer

–      Dangerous operation

–      Operation while prohibited

–      Driving while under suspension

–      Fail to remain.

In addition to future court dates for each of the accused, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

On January 1, 2025, shortly before 5:00 a.m., OPP responded to a report of a traffic complaint regarding a vehicle leaving the roadway and driving through a field off County Road 45 in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand.

Officers patrolled the area and located the vehicle abandoned at a nearby forest trails parking lot. Members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit (K9) were dispatched to assist with a search for the driver.

As a result of search efforts, the accused was later found in the forest and taken into custody. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) also attended the location to provide medical assistance for minor injuries. Investigators also began an impaired operation investigation, and the individual was transported to a local detachment for further tests and processing.

Bailey LEPAGE (age 25) from Marmora, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Dangerous Operation

–      Operation while prohibited

–      Fail to comply with probation order – two counts

–      Driving while under suspension

–      Fail to remain

–      Use plate not authorised for vehicle

–      Novice driver B.A.C. above zero

–      Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

–      Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

–      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance.

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg and a 45-day vehicle impound was initiated.

The Northumberland OPP urges everyone to plan ahead and arrange for a safe ride home rather than drive while impaired. Call a friend, call a cab or make other arrangements. Remember that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.

James NEILLY Was Arrested

(Orangeville, ON) – The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation related offences on the first day of the new year.  

On January 1, 2025, just before 8:00 p.m., officers from Dufferin OPP received a complainant of a driver asleep behind the wheel in the Town of Orangeville. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver, which led to an impaired operation investigation.

James NEILLY, a 34-year-old from Caledon has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired- drug

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to the charges. His driver’s licence was suspended, and vehicle impounded.

23 Year Old Arrested In Minto

(MINTO, ON) – On January 1, 2025, at approximately 8:45 a.m. an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment attended a call for service for a single motor vehicle in a ditch on Minto Road, in the Town of Minto.

As a result of the investigation, Liam M. PREVOST, 23 years-old of Drayton, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on January 17, 2025.

Teen Gang Arrested – Stolen Vehicle Recovered – Cocaine A Factor

(SMITHS FALLS, ON) – Four youths are facing charges after multiple incidents stretching from Smiths Falls to Cornwall.

It started early Wednesday, January 1, 2025, when a car which had earlier been reported stolen, was involved in several reports of dangerous driving in and around Smiths Falls.

During one attempt to stop the vehicle in Kemptville, an OPP officer narrowly avoided being struck by the car as the driver attempted to flee.

The vehicle eventually ended up going off the road in the Spencerville area. Officers arrested four individuals without further incident. A quantity of suspected cocaine, other drugs, alcohol and weapons were found in the vehicle.

The response included officers from the Grenville County, Ottawa, Leeds County and Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Smiths Falls Police Service (SFPS), as well as the OPP Emergency Response Team and OPP TIME team.

A 15-year-old female from Tay Valley Township has been charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance
  • Possession of a Schedule 3 substance
  • Failure to comply with an undertaking

A 15-year-old male, a 15-year-old female, a 12-year-old female, all from Smiths Falls, have been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance
  • Possession of a Schedule 3 substance
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime-over $5000

The 15-year-old male faces an additional charge of failure to comply with an undertaking. The Smiths Falls Police has also charged the male with:

  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Possession of property obtained by crime-over $5000

Two of the accused were held for bail hearings, while the other two were released with scheduled court appearances.

The OPP can confirm that the incidents are connected to earlier SFPS reports of missing teenagers. The names of the accused cannot be released or reported under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Another incident in the City of Cornwall remains under investigation.

Joseph CASTONGUAY Arrested Following Collision

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Police arrested and charged one person with impaired driving offences, after a report of a motor vehicle collision.

On December 30, 2024, at approximately 11:40 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Emergency Medical services (EMS) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 64, West Nipissing.

EMS transported the driver to the local hospital, with non-life threating injuries. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and was also found to be a suspended driver.

As a result of the investigation, Joseph CASTONGUAY, 63 years-of-age, from Cache Bay, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 6, 2025, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Alberto DORAZIO – Drunk Driving

(SUDBURY, ON) – Police arrested and charged one person with impaired driving offences, after another motorist reported a possible impaired driver.

On December 26, 2024, at approximately 3:10 p.m., members from the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver, travelling south on Highway 69, from Sudbury.

The vehicle was located by police at which time the driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Alberto DORAZIO, 50 years-of-age, from Sudbury, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on January 15, 2025, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

27 Year Old From Fergus Arrested For Assault

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charge a local resident with two criminal charges stemming from an assault investigation.

On January 1, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP received a report of an assault at an address on St Andrew Street West within the Town of Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, Samuel LOMAX, a 27-year-old from Fergus was charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Assault
  • Mischief – destroys or damages property

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Gold Scammer Operating In Area – Victim Out $320,000

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received multiple reports of computer pop-up scams lately, and unfortunately a Perth County resident has lost a significant amount of money after they received a notification on their computer indicating there was a security breach of their personal information.

In November 2024, a Township of Perth East resident noticed a pop up on their computer, directing them to call a provided number due to a security breach. The person on the other end claimed to work for Microsoft, and remote access was granted to the victim’s computer. The victim was told that their finances had been compromised.

The victim was directed to withdraw cash from their financial institution, totaling $80,000, and to purchase over $240,000 worth of 100g gold bars from an online company. The gold was delivered to the victim’s house by a delivery company, and on five separate occasions over the next two weeks, unknown people attended the residence to pick up the cash and gold. 

The persons of interest are described as:

–      Asian males

–      Between 25-35 years of age

–      Short, dark hair

–      Described as short in stature

Vehicles of interest:

–      While Lexus sedan

–      Dark coloured small sedans (unknown make/model)

The investigation is ongoing.

The Perth County OPP encourages the public to stay alert and educated to reduce the risk of being a victim of fraud. If you receive an unsolicited phone call or message, asking for personal information (name, birthday, address, phone number, bank information, SIN number) or payment via gift cards for a product, do not provide the information and hang-up the phone and block the phone number. Legitimate organizations do not receive payments by gift cards of any type.

Warning signs to look out for when receiving unsolicited messages include: Emails, text-messages or phone calls sent at odd times of the night, creating a false sense of urgency, spelling errors, lack of punctuation or capitals in sentences, automated messages, random links or attachments, and generic business or company names.

Jesse WIWCHAR – Drunk Driving

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON) – A New Year’s Eve traffic stop in Sault Ste. Marie has resulted in impaired driving charges for one individual. On December 31, 2024, at approximately 11:37 p.m., a Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police officer was conducting general patrol, when they observed a vehicle remain stopped at a green light on Great Northern Road.       

A traffic stop was conducted and investigation determined the vehicle driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. As a result, Jesse WIWCHAR, 33 years-of-age, of Sault Ste. Marie was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on February 3, 2025 in Sault Ste. Marie. The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Thomas STE-CROIX Was Arrested Again

(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON)- Driver caught speeding at more than 160 kms/hr.

On December 31, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) unit was on traffic patrol on Highway 17, east of Blind River. At approximately 10:30 p.m., police observed a vehicle speeding at an excessive high rate of speed as it approached the town of Algoma Mills. A traffic stop was initiated on Highway 17, between Lauzon Village Road and Highway 538, within the Township of the North Shore.

A query revealed that the driver had multiple outstanding warrants and was unlicensed. Assisting with the traffic stop were officers from the East Algoma OPP Detachment and the Mississauga First Nation Police Service. The driver was arrested and transported to the Blind River detachment for processing. The car was impounded for 45 days.

As a result, Thomas STE-CROIX, 39 years-old from Cold Lake, Alberta, was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited under Criminal Code
  • Failure to comply with release order-other than to attend court (two counts)
  • Drive motor vehicle-perform stunt-excessive speed
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on January 1, 2025, and was remanded into custody.

Running Stop Sign Results In More Chages For Suspended Driver

(ALLISTON, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for several driving related offences and criminal offences in the Town of New Tecumseth.

On January 1, 2025, shortly after 5;00 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP attempted to conducted a traffic stop on a passenger vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign in the area of Arnold Crescent. The driver then fled on foot into a residence in the area, and located upon a knock at the door. The driver was confirmed to be under suspension and arrested as a result for driving while under suspension.

as of a result of the investigation the driver, Kwabena KOBIA-BOATEN, 25 years-old, of Alliston, was charge with:  

  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Unlawfully in Dwelling House
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
  • Fail to surrender insurance card
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Disobey stop sign – fail to stop

In addition to the charges, the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on February 2, 2025, to answer to the charges.

10 Year Old Sent To Hospital Following Collision

(SOUTHGATE, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision that closed the highway for several hours.

On January 1, 2025, at 3:34 p.m., Grey Bruce OPP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 6, north of Mount Forest. A 10-year-old child was transported to a trauma center in London with life-threatening injuries, which were later reassessed as non-life-threatening.

The highway was closed for several hours while the OPP investigated the crash but has since re-opened.
