Mark AUSTERBERRY – Drunk Driving

(HAVELOCK-BELMONT-METHUEN TOWNSHIP, ON) – Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving in Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township.

On July 16, 2025, just after 1:00pm, Peterborough County OPP officers received a call advising of a person who had been located at the side of the road laying next to a vehicle. Officers, along with EMS were dispatched to the location on Belmont 7th Line. Upon speaking with the individual, officers determined them to be under the influence of alcohol, and they were arrested. Samples of the accused’s breath were tested and returned readings over three times the legal limit.

Mark AUSTERBERRY (age 39) of Norwood, ON., was arrested and charged with;

·      Operation while impaired

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on August 26, 2025.

Brittney HUYGEN Arrested Following Hit & Run

(ARRAN-ELDERSLIE, ON) – On July 16, 2025, at approximately 9:40 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a motor vehicle collision on Bruce Road 19, Municipality of Arran-Elderslie.

Police attended and discovered that a vehicle had driven on a closed section of Bruce Road 19 and struck a parked excavator. The driver fled the scene, however, was located shortly thereafter. The investigating officer detected signs of impairment from the driver, they were taken into custody and transported for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Brittney HUYGEN, 26-years-old, of the Municipality of Brockton, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – B.A.C. 80 plus, CC 320.14(1)(b)
  • Dangerous Operation, CC 320.13(1)
  • Fail to remain, HTA 200(1)(a)
  • Fail to report accident, HTA 199(1)
  • Drive on closed highway, HTA 134(3)
  • Fail to surrender licence, HTA 33(1)

The accused is set to appear on August 13, 2025, at the Walkerton Ontario Court of Justice to answer to the charges.

Gang Stabbing – One Airlifted

(MOOSONEE, ON) – The James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a violent assault that left one person with serious injuries.

On Thursday July 10, 2025 at approximately 11:30 p.m., the James Bay OPP, and Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) Paramedic Service responded to a report of an assault on Bay Road in Moosonee. The victim was reportedly attacked by multiple individuals and suffered several stab wounds.

The victim was transported by ambulance to a local health clinic and later airlifted to hospital for further treatment.

The investigation remains ongoing and is being conducted by the James Bay OPP and the James Bay Crime Unit, with support from the OPP’s Forensic Identification Services.

Kristy Brobbel – Impaired Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an impaired driving investigation after being alerted to a possible impaired driver in Norland.

On Wednesday July 16, 2025 at approximately 11:58 am officers were notified of a possible impaired driver that were operating a pick up truck believed to be impaired on Highway 35 in Norland. Officers located the vehicle and entered into an impaired driving investigation. The driver was arrested and charged with Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences.

Kristy Brobbel, 40-year-old of Dysart Et Al, was charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance -Opiod (other than heroin)
  • Driving While Under Suspension

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date. The drivers license was suspended for 90 days and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Teens Wreck Chepstow Ball Diamonds – Name Released

(BROCKTON, ON) – On July 12, 2025, at approximately 8:31 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of overnight damages to the ball diamonds in Chepstow, Municipality of Brockton.

Police attended and discovered that a pick-up truck and an Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) had attended the ball diamonds the previous evening, drove through the grass and spun tires causing damages to the area.

As a result of the investigation, two individuals face charges:

Cory HARRON, 18-years-old, resident of Brockton was charged with:

  • Mischief – destroys or damages property, CC 430(1)(a)

A 17-year-old resident of Brockton was charged with:

  • Mischief – destroys or damages property, CC 430(1)(a)
  • Dangerous operation, CC 320.13(1)
  • Obstruct peace officer, CC 129(a)

The youth’s identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

The accused are set to appear on September 3, 2025, at the Walkerton Ontario Court of Justice to answer to the charges.

42 Year Old From Kincardine Arrested

(ARRAN-ELDERSLIE, ON) – On July 12, 2025, at approximately 10:49 p.m., a member of the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped to check a vehicle along Bruce Road 3 outside of Paisley, Municipality of Arran-Elderslie.

The investigating officer detected signs of impairment. The driver was taken into custody and transported for further testing.

Leslie JANEIRO, 42-years-old, resident of Kincardine, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – B.A.C. (80 plus), CC 320.14(1)(b)

The accused is set to appear on August 27, 2025, at the Walkerton Ontario Court of Justice to answer to the charge.

28 Year Old From South Bruce Arrested

(BROCKTON, ON) – On July 11, 2025, at approximately 1:03 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a motor vehicle collision on Yonge Street South at Highway 9, Municipality of Brockton.

Police attended and discovered that a vehicle had struck a light standard. The driver was transported to local hospital with minor injuries. The investigating officer attended the hospital and detected signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, Leobardo SANCHEZ SANCHEZ, 28-years-old, of the Municipality of South Bruce, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – B.A.C. 80 plus, CC 320.14(1)(b)

The accused is set to appear on August 24, 2025, at the Walkerton Ontario Court of Justice to answer to the charge.

19 Year Old Facing Drunk Driving Charge

(LITTLE CURRENT, ON) – One person is facing charges after police were called to a single vehicle collision on Highway 540 in the Billings Township.

On Sunday, July 6, 2025, at approximately 4:30 a.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with assistance from the United Chief and Councils of Manitoulin Police Service Commission (UCCM Police) responded to a single vehicle rollover on Highway 540 in the Billings Township. Police arrived on scene and noticed an odour of alcohol emanating from the driver. Police requested a breath sample using an Approved Screening Device (ASD), and the driver was subsequently transported to the Little Current OPP Detachment for further testing.

There were no injuries as a result of this collision.

The driver, Malcolm WILSON, 19-years-old from Mono, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on August 26, 2025.

$145,000 Drug Bust – Name Released

(PARRY SOUND, ON) – The North East Region Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one person with multiple offences.

On July 15, 2025, members of the North East Region CSCU assisted by West Parry Sound OPP Detachment and West Parry Sound OPP Crime Unit executed a drug warrant at a residence on Gibson Street in the Town of Parry Sound.

A search of the residence, officers seized Canadian currency along with gold bars valued at over $30,000 and a quantity of drugs suspected to be cocaine, heroin and Hydromorphone with an estimated street value of $145,000.

Also located was silverware stolen from Trinity Anglican Church in Parry Sound in February 2024. 

Larry FENTON, 50-years-of-age of Parry Sound was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – heroin
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – other opioid – 6 counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00 – 2 counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00

The accused was held for bail at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound and is scheduled to appear on July 16, 2025.

Walkerton Hit & Run – Suspects At Large

(BROCKTON, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently on scene investigating a fail to remain collision just west of Walkerton.

On July 16, 2025, at approximately 2:55 p.m., police received a report of a collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Concession 2 and Sideroad 5 Greenock in the Municipality of Brockton. Two occupants from an involved vehicle fled the scene on foot. Police are searching for:

  • Two females, late 20’s / early 30’s, both with brown hair, carrying green reusable grocery bags

Multi-Million Dollar Tobacco Bust

(KINGSTON, ON) – A traffic complaint about a speeding tractor-trailer on Highway 401 has led to a large seizure of contraband tobacco, worth millions of dollars.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, shortly before 7:00 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers from the Lennox and Addington County Detachment responded to the eastbound on Highway 401 near Shannonville Road.

A short time later, officers with the Frontenac Detachment stopped the tractor trailer near Joyceville Road in Kingston. The truck was escorted to the Ministry of Transportation scales at Gananoque for a safety inspection. Documentation and other issues led to an inspection of the cargo.

Inside, OPP and MTO officers found the trailer was filled with over 17,820 kilograms of contraband, fine-cut tobacco, estimated to be worth approximately $4.4 million. That equates to a total federal and provincial tax loss of approximately $9.1 million.

As a result of the investigation, Joga Singh DHILLON, age 60 of Puslinch Township, near Cambridge, has been charged with trafficking contraband tobacco.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston on September 2, 2025.

The investigation by the Frontenac Detachment and the OPP Contraband Tobacco Enforcement Team, in conjunction with the Ministry of Transportation, is continuing.

2 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(LENNOX AND ADDINGTON COUNTY, ON) – The Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two drivers in impaired driving related investigations.

On July 14, 2025, just before 4:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle parked on the road in the area of County Road 11 in Greater Napanee. Officers responded and located the vehicle and driver, who was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result, Joseph MCKEIL, age 51, of Greater Napanee was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On July 15, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a traffic complaint on County Road 1 in Stone Mills Township. Officers responded and located the vehicle and driver, who was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

The driver was found to be four times the legal limit of alcohol.

As a result, a 32-year-old female from Arden was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Driving a motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis in open original packaging

Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date.

Violent Home Invasion

(WEST PERTH, ON) – Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual following a home invasion at a residence in the Municipality of West Perth.

On July 12, 2025, the Perth County OPP launched an investigation after a receiving information that two individuals broke into a residence and assaulted the homeowner.

Daniel TIPERT, 33 years old of Stratford, has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Break and Enter
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon

TIPERT is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on June 16, 2025

Collision Near Teeswater – 1 Airlifted To London

(SOUTH BRUCE, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently on scene investigating a serious motor vehicle collision in South Bruce.

On July 16, 2025, at approximately 7:05 a.m., police received a report of a collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Concession 4 and Sideroad 20 in the Municipality of South Bruce. One of the involved drivers has been transported to a London area trauma centre by Ornge Air Ambulance.

The intersection of Concession 4 and Sideroad 20 is closed for the investigation. The closure will remain in effect for an undetermined time. Updates to follow when available.

Eric MEAROW Facing Numerous Charges

(BATCHAWANA BAY, ON) – An individual is facing numerous charges after failing to remain at the scene of a motor vehicle collision. 

On July 14, 2025, at approximately 3:29 p.m., officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police were notified of a single vehicle collision on Highway 563 in Batchawana Bay. Witnesses reported observing a motorcycle lose control, collide with a ditch and the driver fleeing the scene. Further investigation revealed the identity of the motorcycle driver.

On July 15, 2025, Eric MEAROW, 40 years-of-age, of Batchawana Bay was arrested and charged with:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Careless driving
  • Drive left of centre on a curve
  • Fail to remain
  • Fail to report accident
  • Operation while prohibited under the criminal code
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Drive motor vehicle, no plates
  • Drive motor vehicle, no permit
  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner
  • Operate motor vehicle without insurance
  • Fail to comply with probation order – two counts

The accused remains in custody, pending a bail hearing.
