Fatal Collision

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – On September 14, 2024, at approximately 4:55 p.m., the Norfolk detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a five-vehicle collision on Highway 6, near Blueline Road, Port Dover.

Members of OPP, Norfolk County Fire and Paramedic Services attended to assist.

The investigation determined that three motorcycles, a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), and a pick-up truck were involved in a collision at that location.

A passenger of one of the motorcycles, a 33-year-old from Sudbury was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The operator of the same motorcycle was transported to a trauma center with serious injuries.

The operator of a second motorcycle was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Four other vehicle occupants were not injured.

Members of the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team attended to assist with the investigation.

Highway 6 remains closed between Blueline Road and Pheasant Trail/Blue Lake Avenue while police continue to investigate.

Fatal Collision

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision involving a motorcycle in Waterford.

At approximately 6:50 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment, along with the Norfolk County Fire Department and Norfolk County Paramedic Services, responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV on Thompson Road East in Waterford, Norfolk County.

As a result, the motorcyclist, a 23-year-old from Oxford County, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Thompson Road East, between Duncombe Road and Cockshutt Road, is expected to remain closed for the next several hours.

The West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) Team is assisting with the investigation and encourages anyone who was travelling on Thompson Road East around the time of the collision to contact the Norfolk County OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

More Impaired Charges

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – A motor vehicle driver and a vessel operator were charged following separate investigations into impaired driving incidents.

At approximately 8:31 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to a single-vehicle collision on Main Street in Port Dover, Norfolk County.

It was determined that a sedan was travelling along Main Street when it collided with two parked vehicles. No injuries were reported.

After conducting a roadside sobriety assessment of the driver at the scene, officers took the individual into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 25-year-old Jerome ZEDO of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Drive without proper headlights – motor vehicle.

The accused is schedule to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

At approximately 9:23 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2024, marine officers from the Norfolk County OPP Detachment stopped and investigated a vessel in the Inner Bay of Lake Erie, Norfolk County.

After assessing the operator’s sobriety, officers took the individual into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 52-year-old Neil CLARKE of St. Thomas, Ontario:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Failing to exhibit masthead light forward on power-driven vessel underway,
  • Failure to have proof of competency on board a pleasure craft.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Wendy WASHIK – Assault With Weapon

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into a neighbour dispute in Simcoe.

At approximately 6:02 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to a neighbour dispute on Woodway Trail in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that two individuals were involved in a dispute on the premises, resulting in the victim being physically assaulted. No injuries were reported.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 58-year-old Wendy WASHIK of Norfolk County:

  • Assault with a weapon.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Cameron BATES Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into a mischief incident in Simcoe.

At approximately 3:11 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to a mischief incident on Norfolk Street South in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that an individual entered a business, got into a dispute with an employee, and then caused property damage before leaving the area on foot.

Officers later found the suspect at a nearby address and took them into custody without incident.

Charged with following alleged offences is 25-year-old Cameron BATES of Norfolk County:

  • Causing a disturbance,
  • Mischief – destroys or damages property.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Joseph HOLLIDAY Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – A prohibited driver was charged after being stopped in Simcoe by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand/Norfolk Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU).

At approximately 6:14 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, the Haldimand/Norfolk OPP CSCU conducted a traffic stop and investigation on Hackberry Lane in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

As a result, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

During a search of the individual, officers discovered and seized a quantity of suspected cocaine.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 53-year-old Joseph HOLLIDAY of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code,
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle,
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – cocaine.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

Nancy JAGT – Assault

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into a dispute in Waterford.

At approximately 11:01 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to and investigated a dispute on Cockshutt Road in Waterford, Norfolk County.

It was determined that two individuals were involved in a dispute on the premises, resulting in the victim being physically assaulted. No injuries were reported.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 65-year-old Nancy JAGT of Brantford, Ontario:

  • Assault.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Kyle PEREIRA Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged after an investigation revealed more than 20 false 9-1-1 calls.

At approximately 10:35 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to a series of 9-1-1 calls on Patterson Street in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that an individual at the location had made over 20 non-emergency 9-1-1 calls, beginning shortly after 8:00 a.m., none of which involved an actual emergency.

During the interaction between officers and the individual, the individual caused damage to OPP property before being taken into custody.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 34-year-old Kyle PEREIRA of Norfolk County:

  • Public mischief,
  • Mischief under $5,000.

The accused was held in custody to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe.

3 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Three individuals were charged following investigations into separate impaired driving incidents.

At approximately 12:14 a.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Main Street of Courtland in Courtland, Norfolk County.

During the operation, a vehicle was stopped, and the driver was assessed for sobriety.

As a result, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 30-year-old Timothy AULENBACK of Whites Lake, Nova Scotia, Canada:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Around 12:55 a.m. that same day, officers from the Norfolk County OPP Detachment were conducting a RIDE program on Turkey Point Road in Turkey Point, Norfolk County.

During the operation, a vehicle was stopped, and the driver was assessed for sobriety.

As a result, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 27-year-old Brett SULLIVAN of Elgin County:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Around 9:19 p.m. that same day, officers from the Norfolk County OPP Detachment responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a suspected impaired driver on Vittoria Road in Charlotteville, Norfolk County.

After locating the vehicle on Vittoria Road, officers performed a roadside sobriety assessment of the driver.

As a result, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 56-year-old Daniel CONNOR of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Alexander CRICHTON – Theft

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into a shoplifting incident in Simcoe.

At approximately 2:49 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a theft on Queensway East in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that an individual entered a business, concealed an item, and left without paying.

Responding officers located the suspect on the premises and took them into custody without incident. The stolen item had been returned to the business before police arrived.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 34-year-old Alexander CRICHTON of Brantford, Ontario:

  • Theft under $5,000 – shoplifting.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

Marcus JOHNSON – Assault

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual has been charged following an investigation into a harassment incident in Waterford.

At approximately 7:08 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to a harassment incident on the Waterford Heritage Trail near the Waterford Ponds on Concession 8 Townsend in Waterford, Norfolk County.

It was determined that a member of the public was walking along the trail when they were approached and verbally harassed by an unknown individual. After this encounter, the victim continued along the trail but was then physically assaulted by the suspect. The suspect subsequently left the area in a blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

The victim reported no injuries.

Around 8:46 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, the suspect was located at an address on Old Highway 24 in Waterford, Norfolk County, and was taken into custody.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 53-year-old Marcus JOHNSON of Brantford, Ontario:

  • Criminal harassment,
  • Assault,
  • Resist Peace Officer.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

Logan DONOVAN Arrested Following Shootings

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The second suspect connected to a firearm-related incident in Delhi has now been taken into custody.

On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, the Brantford Police Service arrested an individual in the City of Brantford who had been identified as the second suspect in an incident that occurred on the evening of Monday, June 10, 2024, in Norfolk County, where a firearm was discharged at two residences in Delhi.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 23-year-old Logan DONOVAN of Brantford, Ontario:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm,
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition,
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm,
  • Discharge a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner (two counts).

The accused was detained in custody and is scheduled to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe.

The OPP expresses its appreciation to the Brantford Police Service for their support during the investigation.

Hit & Run

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Police are seeking assistance from the public in identifying the driver of a vehicle that crashed into a business in Port Dover.

At approximately 12:33 a.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment, along with the Norfolk County Fire Department and Norfolk County Paramedic Services, responded to a single-vehicle collision on Main Street in Port Dover, Norfolk County.

It was determined that a black 2007 Dodge Charger sedan left the roadway and collided with the exterior of a business, causing significant damage to the building.

The driver and a passenger fled the scene on foot before police arrived.

Members of the Norfolk County OPP Detachment are actively conducting an ongoing investigation and are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the police at 1-888-310-1122.

Zakary BURNETT Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into an impaired driving incident in Simcoe.

At approximately 10:53 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a single-vehicle collision on Ireland Road in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that the vehicle left the roadway and struck a structure on private property. No injuries were reported.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety at the scene, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 22-year-old Zakary BURNETT of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis in open baggage.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(NORFOLK COUNTYON) – Two individuals have been arrested and are facing multiple charges.

On August 15, 2024, at approximately 5:20 p.m., members of the Haldimand and Norfolk County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit, took two individuals into custody after they were observed inside a motor vehicle on Windham Road 13, Norfolk County.

The investigation determined that the driver was prohibited from driving and was subsequently taken into custody.

As a result of further investigation, the passenger was also taken into custody.

A quantity of suspected fentanyl and cocaine, as well as drug paraphernalia, cash and property were seized.

John BAVERSTOCK, 42-years-old of Norfolk County remains in custody and has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while Prohibited Under the Criminal Code (two counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (three counts)
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Drive While Under Suspension (two counts)
  • Use Plate not Authorized for Vehicle

Ria LANE, 29-years-old of Norfolk County has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (three counts)
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on later dates.
