Collision Sends 16-Year-Old To Hospital

(MALAHIDE, ON) A motorcyclist was injured in a collision with a pick-up truck in the Township of Malahide.

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at approximately 3:06 p.m., Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Malahide Fire and Madavie Elgin Emergency Medical Services responded to a two-vehicle collision on Springfield Road in Maladhide.

A 16-year-old from Malahide was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and charged with the following Highway Traffic Act offences:

  • Fail to yield to traffic on through highway
  • Drive motor vehicle – improper licence
  • Drive motor vehicle, no plates and
  • Fail to surrender insurance card (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)

The driver of the pickup truck, a 63-year-old of the Municipality of Bayham was uninjured.

Austin JOSTEN Was Arrested

(MALAHIDE, ON) – Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with dangerous and impaired operation.

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at approximately 5:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a motorist driving erratically in the Township of Malahide.

As a result of the investigation, Austin JOSTEN, a 21-year-old from St. Thomas was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

19 Year Old Repeat Offender Arrested Again #3Strikes

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), has charged an individual following a mischief investigation.

On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at approximately 9:54 p.m., members of the Elgin OPP were dispatched to a report of mischief to property.

As a result, Khaled ALTAWEEL, 19-years-old from Malahide Township was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Failure to comply with release order and,
  • Mischief Under $5000

The accused was held for bail in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Gary Paget – Drunk Driving

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment has charged an individual following a traffic stop.

On April 6, 2025, at approximately 1:45 a.m., members of the Elgin OPP stopped a passenger vehicle on Hacienda Road, Malahide Township.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Elgin County OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Gary Paget, a 59-year-old from St. Thomas was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on May 13, 2025.

Assault & Threats – Christopher Campbell Arrested

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment, has charged an individual following a disturbance.

On March 29, 2025, at approximately 6:00 a.m., members of the Elgin OPP were dispatched to an address in Malahide Township, for the report of a disturbance between family members.

As a result of the investigation, Christopher Campbell a 33-year-old from Malahide was charged with:

·        Assault

·        Mischief – destroys or damages property

·        Uttering Threats – cause death or bodily harm

The accused was held for bail.

Matthew MALONEY: Drunk Driving

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), has charged an individual following a collision investigation.

On February 19, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Elgin OPP responded to a vehicle in a ditch on Wilson Line, east of Belmont Road, Township of Malahide.

No serious injuries were reported.

As a result of the investigation the driver of the passenger vehicle, Matthew MALONEY, a 34-year-old from Central Elgin was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas at a later date.

Stephanie REYNEVELD Was Arrested

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), has charged an individual following a collision investigation.

On February 6, 2025, at approximately 6:55 p.m., the Elgin OPP responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and a transport truck on Imperial Road near Yorke Line in the Township of Malahide.

No serious injuries were reported.

As a result of the investigation the driver of the passenger vehicle, Stephanie REYNEVELD, a 33-year-old from London was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on March 25, 2025.

Dafeit KNELSEN Facing Several Charges

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment conducted a traffic stop that resulted in two individuals taken into custody.

On January 11, 2025, at approximately 8:40 p.m., an officer of the Elgin OPP stopped a passenger vehicle on Calton Line near Carter Road, Township of Malahide, for an observed Highway Traffic Act violation.

The investigating officer determined that the driver and passenger of the vehicle had outstanding arrest warrants held by Elgin OPP and both individuals were taken into custody without incident.

As a result, the driver, Dafeit KNELSEN, 42-years-old from Bayham, was charged with:

  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Insecure load
  • Fail to mark overhanging load
  • Driver fail to surrender licence

The accused was released from custody and scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on February 25, 2025.

Additionally, the passenger, Jayme PARTINGTON, 37-years-old from Bayham, was charged with:

  • Trafficking in property obtained by crime
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5000

The accused was released from custody and scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on February 18, 2025.

Missing Person Found Deceased

(CENTRAL ELGIN & MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirms that a missing person previously reported missing has been located deceased.

On December 4, 2024, a 19-year-old individual was reported missing from the City of London to the London Police Service (LPS) and was later determined have been last seen on Hawk Cliff Road, Municipality of Central Elgin. As a result, members of OPP continued the investigation.

On January 4, 2025, members of the Elgin OPP were dispatched to Waneeta Beach after a member of the public located a deceased individual on the shoreline of Lake Erie, Township of Malahide.

Investigators from the Elgin County OPP, in collaboration with the OPP Forensic Identification Services and the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario, have confirmed the identity of the deceased as the individual previously reported missing.

No foul play is suspected as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this death.

We kindly ask that any photographs from prior publications of the missing individual be removed.

The OPP would like to extend our deepest condolences to family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.

Deceased Found On Shore – Identity Unknown

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are conducting a death investigation after a deceased individual was discovered on the shoreline of Lake Erie, Township of Malahide.

On January 4, 2025, members of the Elgin OPP were dispatched to Waneeta Beach after a member of the public located a deceased individual on the shore.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been determined.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of Elgin OPP Crime Unit and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

There is no threat to public safety.

Jesse TREMBLEY – Drunk Driving

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located and investigated a vehicle after a Good Samaritan reported a traffic complaint in the Township of Malahide.

On November 16, 2024, at approximately 12:05 a.m., members of the Elgin OPP, St. Thomas Detachment, located the subject vehicle on Talbot Line, near Hacienda Road, Township of Malahide.

As a result of the investigation, Jesse TREMBLEY, a 34-year-old from Aylmer was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on December 31, 2024.

The OPP would like to take this opportunity to thank the individual who contacted police and reported this incident. As a direct result, officers were able to safely locate the vehicle and take the driver into custody.

Sarah MOONEY – Drunk Driving

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment has charged an individual following a traffic stop.

On October 13, 2024, at approximately 12:20 a.m., members of the Elgin OPP received a traffic complaint involving a suspected impaired driver and stopped the passenger vehicle on Springfield Road near College Line, Township of Malahide.

The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Elgin OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Sarah MOONEY, a 32-year-old from Aylmer was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on November 26, 2024.

Cornelius UNGER Arrested Following Collision

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment, has charged an individual following a single-vehicle collision investigation.

On September 10, 2024, at approximately 12:10 p.m., emergency responders including members the Elgin OPP, Malahide Fire Services, Elgin-St. Thomas Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Air ORNGE, responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle colliding with a tree on Chalet Line near Carter Road, Township of Malahide.

The lone driver was transported to a hospital by Elgin-St. Thomas EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigating officer observed signs of impairment from the driver and a Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE) was administered at the hospital, with the assistance of the Brant County OPP.

As a result of the investigation, Cornelius UNGER, a 49-year-old from Aylmer was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on October 8, 2024.

John SIMON Was Arrested

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment, has charged an individual following a collision investigation.

On September 10, 2024, at approximately 11:25 a.m., emergency services including Malahide Fire Services, Elgin-St. Thomas Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Elgin OPP responded to a single-vehicle rollover collision involving a passenger vehicle colliding with a utility pole on Wilson Line near Imperial Road, Township of Malahide.

The lone driver that was transported to a local hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, John SIMON, a 63-year-old from Norfolk County was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Careless driving
  • Driving while under suspension

A 45-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on October 22, 2024.

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment, has charged an individual following a disturbance in the Township of Malahide.

On August 29, 2024, at approximately 2:50 a.m., members of the Elgin County OPP were dispatched to an address in the Township of Malahide, for the report of a disturbance.

As a result of the investigation, John MOORE, a 45-year-old from the Township of Norwich was charged with:

  • Mischief – destroys or damages property
  • Criminal Harassment – repeatedly communicate
  • Criminal Harassment – beset and watch person known to complaint
  • Trespassing at night

The accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
