Joshua MALLAIS Arrested Following Collision

(HALDIMAND COUNTY) – One person is charged following a collision on Highway 6 in Haldimand County.

On July3, 2025, shortly after 4:27 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Haldimand Detachment responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 6 north of Caledonia between Unity Side Road and Haldibrook Road.

One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

The road is now open to traffic.

Joshua MALLAIS, 28 years old, of Gatineau, Quebec is charged with Careless Driving.

Repeat Offender Attempts To Ram Cruiser

(HALDIMAND COUNTY) – An individual is facing charges after attempting to ram a cruiser in Cayuga.

On June 18, 2025, at approximately 1:55 a.m. the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) took a driver into custody after they intentionally drove towards a police vehicle.

The officer was forced to take evasive action to avoid a collision. No injuries were reported.

Morley CALLAN, 65-years-old from Caledonia has been charged with the following offences:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other than to Attend Court

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on today’s date.

Jason O’MARRA – Drunk Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTY) – A driver is facing charges after a multi vehicle collision was investigated.

On June 14, 2025, at approximately 12:20 p.m., members of the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision involving multiple vehicles on Maple Street, Dunnville.

The investigation determined that a collision occurred between a moving vehicle and several parked unoccupied vehicles. No injuries were reported.

Jason O’MARRA, 43-years-old of Vanessa, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on July 15, 2025.

Destynie TEMPENY – Assault With Weapon, Breach

(HALDIMAND COUNTY) – On June 14, 2025, at approximately 12:25 a.m., members of the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance on Broad Street, Dunnville.

The investigation determined that two individuals became involved in a verbal argument that escalated.

One person brandished an edged weapon during the altercation, and they were subsequently taken into custody.

No injuries were reported.

As a result of the investigation, 19-year-old Destynie TEMPENY of Dunnville has been charged with the following offences:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Uttering Threats -Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other than to Attend Court
  • Being Intoxicated in a Public Place

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario court of Justice in Cayuga on July 29, 2025.

Bryon FARR – Drunk Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTY) – An individual is facing impaired charges following an investigation in Dunnville.

On June 13, 2025, at approximately 2:15 a.m., the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint on Church Street in Dunnville.

Police located the vehicle and took the driver into custody.

As a result of the investigation, 58-year-old Bryon FARR of Lowbanks has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario court of Justice in Cayuga on July 29, 2025.

Fatal Collision

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – A two vehicle crash has claimed the life of one person and has sent two others to hospital with injuries.

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at approximately 3:33 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment, Haldimand County Fire Department and Haldimand County EMS responded to a collision at Argyle Street South near Highway 6 in Caledonia.

It has been determined that a motor vehicle and sports utility vehicle collided on Argyle Street South, east of Highway 6. The driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased. A passenger in vehicle was transported to hospital to be treated for serious life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV was also transported to hospital to be treated for serious non-life-threatening injuries.

The West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team is assisting with the investigation and is asking anyone who was travelling on Argyle Street South, East of Highway 6 and witnessed the collision – or has any relevant information – to contact the Haldimand County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Human Remains Found Following House Fire

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – On Sunday, May 11, 2025, at approximately 3:32 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment, Haldimand County Fire Department, and Paramedic Services responded to a fire at a Kinross Street, Caledonia address.

Attending firefighters arrived on scene and were met with a fully engulfed house fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire however human remains were located inside the home. The identity of the deceased remains under investigation.

The Haldimand County OPP Crime Unit is continuing to investigate in conjunction with the Office of the Fire Marshall, the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. 

The fire is not being treated as suspicious, and no foul play is suspected.

Kyley CHYMKO-LESLIE: Fraud, Etc.

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – An individual has been charged resulting from a fraud investigation that was initiated in the fall of 2023.

On October 7, 2023, the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) launched an investigation that involved several victims in the Dunnville area.

The investigation revealed individuals purchased concert tickets on a popular social media platform. Once a price was agreed on, a money transfer was completed.

When the purchaser realized the tickets weren’t sent on the day of the event, they contacted the seller, who indicated a refund would be issued, which never occurred.

41-year-old Kyley CHYMKO-LESLIE of Dunnville has been charged with the following offences:

  • Fraud Over $5000 (two counts)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 (two counts)
  • Laundering Proceeds of Crime

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on March 4, 2025.

Investigators have reason to believe there may be more victims and encourage the public to report this criminal activity to police.

OPP Scolds Public After Coon Call

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received several calls recently after residents have spotted a raccoon out during the day.

The primary focus of the OPP is public safety. The OPP wants to remind the public that anyone having issues with raccoons, skunks, bats or any other animal on their property needs to call a private animal removal service.

It’s a common myth that a raccoon walking around during the day is sick or has rabies. It’s true that raccoons are mostly nocturnal, but they can be active during the day for many different reasons. Raccoons will come out during the day if there is a food source available at a particular time, if they have been frightened out of their daytime sleeping spot, or if there is high competition in the area at night from other nocturnal animals.

“The OPP does not have the equipment to trap and house live animals or transport wild animals. Calling the police to deal with nuisance animals ties up the phone lines at the communications center and ties up law enforcement officers. A private animal removal service should be contacted instead of calling the police.” – Inspector Jodi Kays, Detachment Commander, Haldimand County OPP.

Genevieve RANSOM – Drunk Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – On January 27, 2025, at approximately 12:20 p.m., the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision on Keith Richardson Parkway, Townsend.

The investigation determined that the driver and lone occupant was treated for minor injuries.

As a result, 23-year-old Genevieve RANSOM of Simcoe has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Having Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available
  • Drive Motor Vehicle, no Currently Validated Permit

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on March 4, 2025.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested – Names Released

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – Three drivers are facing impaired charges from this past weekend in Haldimand County.

On January 18, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., 35-year-old Kayla FENTON of Hamilton was arrested and subsequently charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

On January 19, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., 54-year-old Jason WAITE of Lowbanks was arrested and subsequently charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration – (80 plus)
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Not Equipped with Ignition Interlock Device

These two accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on February 25, 2025.

On January 19, 2025, at approximately 12:50 p.m., 48-year-old Dean VIEIRA of Toronto was arrested and subsequently charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Possess Unmarked Cigarettes
  • Possess Unmarked Cigarettes for Sale

This accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on February 4, 2025.

Amy THOMAS – Drunk Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – On January 15, 2025, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), conducted a traffic stop on Highway 6, north of Caledonia.

The investigation determined that a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation.

As a result, 44-year-old Amy THOMAS of Ohsweken has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available
  • Speeding

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario court of Justice in Cayuga on February 25, 2025.

THOMPSON Was Arrested

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – On January 12, 2025, at approximately 1:50 a.m., members of the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision on Haldimand Road 49, Dunnville.

The investigation determined that a single vehicle was involved in a collision. The driver, and lone occupant suffered minor injuries.

As a result, 24-year-old Shinelle THOMPSON was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on February 11, 2025.

Freddy CONTY & James ROBSON Arrested For Trafficking

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – A drug trafficking investigation that began in November 2024, resulted in the arrest of two individuals at an address in Dunnville.

As a result of the investigation, a quantity of Canadian and American currency, a quantity of illicit drugs including suspected fentanyl and cocaine, as well as drug paraphernalia was seized.

Freddy CONTY, 58-years-old of Dunnville has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (two counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000 – in Canada

James ROBSON, 60-years-old of Dunnville has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (two counts)

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on January 21, 2025.

Joseph CARUSO Facing Sexual Assault Charges

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – An individual has been charged in connection with an ongoing historical sexual assault investigation.

On November 25, 2024, the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating a report of a series of sexual assault incidents that took place between May 2024 and November 2024 at a Talbot Street address.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

31-year-old Joseph CARUSO of Cayuga has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Sexual Assault (three counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on a later date.

The Haldimand County OPP Major Crime Unit continues to investigate, as investigators believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Haldimand OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
