Benjamin PILUK – Drunk Driving

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charge a Fergus resident with several offences in relation to an impaired driving investigation.

On March 28, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County OPP were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle driving in an erratic manner. Officers arrived in the area, located the motor vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Rea Drive in Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, Benjamin PILUK, a 34-year-old of Fergus is charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operate Motor Vehicle-no insurance
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with open container of liquor

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 45-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice-Guelph on April 11, 2025.

2 Arrested For Theft

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrest and charge two suspects in relation to a shoplifting investigation. 

On March 24, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of an in-progress theft at a local retailer on St David Street North within the Town of Fergus. It was reported that two individuals were attempting to shoplift approximately over $1,300 worth of items with no attempt to pay and proceeded to flee the area when police arrived. Both individuals were located and arrested without incident.

James IRONSIDE, 32-year-old of Guelph is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Theft under $5000 – Shoplifting
  • Unlawfully in dwelling house

The accused has been released form custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on April 29, 2025.

Jules RODRIGUES, 27-year-old of Guelph is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Theft under $5000 – Shoplifting

The accused has been released form custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on May 2, 2025.

Sexual Assault – Charles NDEGWE Arrested

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged an individual in relation to a sexual assault investigation in Fergus.

On September 13, 2024, members of the Wellington County Crime Unit launched an investigation after receiving information of a sexual assault in the Town of Fergus.

On March 6, 2025, the Wellington County OPP Crime Unit arrested and charged Charles NDEGWE, a 50-year-old of Fergus, with sexual assault.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on April 11, 2025.

There is no statute of limitations on sexual offences and a report can be made to police at any time, regardless of how much time has passed. Christopher HASSELL – Drunk Driving

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charge a Centre Wellington Township resident criminally, stemming from a RIDE program.

On March 19, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP Traffic Management Unit were conducting proactive “Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere” (RIDE) program on Orangeville Road within Fergus, when they initiated a traffic stop on a motor vehicle to determine sobriety.

As a result of the investigation, Christopher HASSELL, a 49-year-old of Centre Wellington Township is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Unmarked cigarettes
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has since been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on April 1, 2025.

Paul BECK – Drunk Driving

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrest a St. Clements resident for impaired driving, after conducting a traffic stop.

On March 15, 2025, at approximately 3:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County OPP conducted a traffic stop on Wellington Road 7 within the Township of Centre Wellington.

As a result, Paul BECK, a 62-year-old of St. Clements was charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 14-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on March 25, 2025.

Robert William Dunlop – Drunk Driving

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – On March 9, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m. officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Edinburgh Avenue in Fergus.

During the operation, a passenger van entered the RIDE program. As a result of the investigation, Robert William Dunlop, 63-years-old from Fergus, was charged with:

–  Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on March 18, 2025.

Another Pedestrian Run Down

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are on scene with a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Belsyde Avenue and Tower Street South involving a pedestrian being struck at the intersection.

On March 5, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Wellington County OPP received a report that a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Belsyde Avenue and Tower Street South within the Town of Fergus. The pedestrian has since been transported by ambulance to a trauma centre with life threatening injuries.

The driver of the motor vehicle involved was not injured.

The intersection is closed in all directions for an unknown amount of time due to the active investigation at the scene. The public is asked to avoid the area.

Currently closed from the intersection:

  • (West to East) Elora Street is closed to Athol Street – Belsyde Avenue is closed to St. David Street South.
  • (North to South) Tower Street South is closed from Wellington Street to McQueen Boulevard.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team is assisting Wellington County OPP with the investigation.

Thomas KIRBY: Impaired Operation

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charge a Fergus resident with two criminal charges stemming from a two-motor vehicle collision.

On February 22, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP attended the scene of a two motor-vehicle collision on Tower Street with Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, Thomas KIRBY, a 69-year-old of Fergus is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

There were no injuries as a result of the collision.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on March 25, 2025.

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charge a Fergus resident with four criminal charges and one provincial charge, in relation to an impaired driving investigation.

On February 21, 2025, at approximately 1:25 a.m., members of the Wellington County OPP were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle driving in an erratic manner. Officers arrived in the area, located the motor vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Wellington Road 29 within Centre Wellington.

As a result of the investigation, Christopher SUDAK, a 43-year-old of Fergus is charged under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Driving while under suspension

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 45-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Colin LAKE Was Arrested

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charges local resident criminally after assaulting a police officer.

On January 26, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Wellington County OPP detected a suspicious motor vehicle which led to a traffic stop being conducted on Third Line within Centre Wellington Township.

As a result of the investigation, Colin LAKE, a 37-year-old from Centre Wellington was charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Assault a Peace Officer

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on February 28, 2025.

Adam GELL Facing 3 Criminal Charges

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charge an Elora resident with three criminal charges in relation to an impaired driving arrest.

On January 24, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP were made aware of a suspicious motor vehicle travelling through Centre Wellington Township and stopped the motor vehicle on York Street West within Elora.

As a result of the investigation, Adam GELL, a 41-year-old of Elora is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Victim Scammed Out Of $230,000 – 4 Arrested

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit has charged another four individuals following a fraud investigation.

In February 2024, a business in Centre Wellington contacted the Wellington County OPP to advise that they had lost approximately $230,000 to a phishing scam.

Four additional individuals have been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

Cornelius ETAH, 39-years-old of Ajax, was charged with:

  • Fraud over $5000
  • Theft over $5000
  • Possession Property obtained by crime over $5000 – In Canada

The accused will make their next court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on February 18, 2025.

Hamid OKI, 28-years-old of Toronto, was charged with:

  • Fraud over $5000
  • Theft over $5000
  • Possession Property obtained by crime over $5000 – In Canada

The accused will make their next court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on March 7, 2025.

Olabamiji OMONIYI, 35-years-old of North York, was charged with:

  • Possession Property obtained by crime over $5000 – In Canada
  • Personation with Intent – intent to obtain property (identity fraud)
  • Use, deals, acts on forged document

The accused will make their next court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on February 14, 2025.

Ifeanyi OKOLO, 31-years-old of Kitchener, was charged with:

  • Fraud over $5000
  • Theft over $5000
  • Possession Property obtained by crime over $5000 – In Canada

The accused will make their next court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on January 24, 2025.

27 Year Old From Fergus Arrested For Assault

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charge a local resident with two criminal charges stemming from an assault investigation.

On January 1, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP received a report of an assault at an address on St Andrew Street West within the Town of Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, Samuel LOMAX, a 27-year-old from Fergus was charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Assault
  • Mischief – destroys or damages property

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Collison Takes Life Of 18 Year Old

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – A two-vehicle collision in Centre Wellington Township has claimed the life of a Centre Wellington Twp resident. 

Just after 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services, and Centre Wellington Fire Rescue responded to a collision on Wellington Road 21 near 4th Line East in Centre Wellington Township.

Upon arrival, emergency services located the involved vehicles; a passenger car and minivan which had collided head-on. The lone drivers were transported to a local hospital where one of the drivers was pronounced deceased. The second driver was later airlifted to Hamilton hospital for their injuries, which are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The deceased is an 18-year-old resident of Centre Wellington Twp. 

The cause of the collision is being investigated. Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team are at the scene to assist with the collision investigation. County Road 21 at County Road 7 and County Road 21 at Sideroad 4 are currently closed for the investigation and will remain closed for several hours.
