Charles-Antoine BLAIS Was Arrested

(BONNECHERE VALLEY TWP. ON) – One person is facing charges after an assault in Bonnechere Valley Township.

On Sunday, September 7, 2025, shortly before 2:00 p.m., officers with the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a location on Zadow Line. A woman had been assaulted in an apparent dispute over trespassing and damage to a fence. There were no serious injuries reported.

When officers arrived, they located an arrested an individual.

As a result of the investigation, Charles-Antoine BLAIS, age 21 of Petawawa has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Mischief – destroys or damages property

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on October 7, 2025.

Justin YEAS Arrested After Foot Chase

(BONNECHERE VALLEY TWP., ON.) – The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver with impaired after an altercation with police.

On August 30, 2025, just after 10:00 p.m., OPP officers were dealing with a complaint on Bruce St. in the Township of Bonnechere Valley. During the interaction with police the party fled on foot. A short foot pursuit and altercation ensued. The party was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

Justin YEAS, 30 years old, of Eganville was charged with impaired operation.

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. They were released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on September 22, 2025.

81 Year Old Dead – Randal STEWART Arrested

(BONNECHERE VALLEY TWP., ON) – One person is deceased, and another is facing multiple charges after a collision near Eganville.

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, just after noon, officers with the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Bonnechere Valley Fire Department and the County of Renfrew Paramedics were called to the scene on Highway 41, just south of Eganville.

It happened in an area where vehicles had been stopped in a construction zone when one vehicle failed to stop and struck the others. Four vehicles were involved in the collision.

An 81-year-old male from the area was pronounced deceased at the scene. None of the other drivers suffered serious injuries.

As a result of the investigation, one individual was arrested at the scene and

Randal STEWART, age 61 of Haliburton, has been charged with:

  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death
  • Refusal to comply with a demand for a breath sample – death
  • Driving with an open container of liquor
  • Having care or control of a vehicle with open liquor

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on August 5, 2025. Their drivers’ licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

Highway 41 was closed until approximately 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday for the investigation and removal of vehicles.

William O’BRIEN Facing Numerous Charges

(BONNECHERE VALLEY TWP, ON) – A traffic stop in Bonnechere Valley Township (BVT) has resulted in several serious charges for a local resident.

On April 23, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 41. Police seized a loaded firearm, ammunition, alcohol and cannabis from the vehicle. The driver was taken to the detachment for testing. 

As a result of this investigation 40-year-old William O’BRIEN of BVT has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC), Cannabis Control Act (CCA), Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and Liquor Licence and Control Act (LLCA) offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis in open baggage
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on May 20, 2025.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered – Ryan SMITH Arrested

(BONNECHERE VALLEY TWP, ON) – A driver is facing several charges after a vehicle was stopped as a result of a RIDE Program in Bonnechere Valley Township (BVTP). 

On April 18, 2025, at just after 11:00 a.m., officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a vehicle that appeared to avoid a RIDE Program on Augsburg Road. Police stopped the vehicle a short distance away and began an impaired driving investigation. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized, and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. Further investigation found that the involved vehicle had been stolen the previous night from a residence in North Algona-Wilberforce Township. Alcohol was seized from the vehicle during the investigation. 

As a result of this incident 34-year-old Ryan SMITH of BVTP has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC), Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA) and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus

·        Theft of a motor vehicle

·        Operation while prohibited

·        Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

·        Driving while under suspension

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was returned to the owner. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on May 5, 2025.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered – Darryl PUDDICOMBE Arrested

(BONNECHERE VALLEY TWP, ON) – Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual after a stolen vehicle was recovered in Eganville.

On March 1, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m., police responded to a report of a shirtless man acting erratically on Bonnechere Street East. As police were responding, it was reported that a vehicle was stolen by the individual. 

A short time later, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers located the vehicle at a local motel in Eganville and an individual was taken into custody.  

As a result of this investigation 58-year-old Darryl PUDDICOMBE of Bonnechere Valley Township was charged with:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 1, 2025.

Steven AUBREY Facing Several Charges

(BONNECHERE VALLEY TWP, ON) – A local driver is facing several charges after a recent investigation by members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

On the afternoon of January 5, 2025, off-duty members of the UOV OPP intervened at a gas station in Bonnechere Valley Township to prevent an individual from driving. The individual fled on foot resulting in the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) members being deployed. Police were not able to locate the individual at that time.  

As a result of the investigation, on January 13, 2025, police arrested and charged 34-year-old Steven AUBREY of Laurentian Valley Township with the following Criminal Code (CC), Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA), Cannabis Control Act (CCA) and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences:

·        Operation while prohibited

·        Having care or control of a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor

·        Having care or control of a motor vehicle with cannabis in open baggage

·        Drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device

The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on February 5, 2025, and the vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days.

Male Located Deceased

(BONNECHERE VALLEY TWP., ON) – A 27-year-old man has been located deceased after he failed to surface while swimming in Lake Clear, in Bonnechere Valley Township.

The man had been swimming and jumping off rocks into the water on Sunday morning, September 15, 2024, with several other people when he disappeared beneath the surface. The 9-1-1 call came in to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) around 9:30 a.m.

OPP and County of Renfrew Paramedic Service both arrived at the scene a short time later, with boats to aid in the search. Firefighters and paramedics also utilized a local individual’s boat in the search. Members of the Bonnechere Valley Fire Department used their Remote Piloted Aerial System (drone) to scan the water from above.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit was called to the scene and located the male’s body shortly before 7:00 p.m.

A post mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the cause of death.

The OPP has ensured that Victim Services is engaged to support the victim’s family.
