Suspended Driver Caught Again – DURRELL

(HURON EAST, ON) – A Huron East resident is facing a trio of driving related charges following an incident that took place near Walton recently. 

On May 21, 2022 at approximately 10:34 a.m. a Huron County OPP officer was patrolling on Blyth Road when he observed a dirt bike operator pass him failing to wear a helmet. The officer activated his emergency equipment and signaled for the driver to stop however the driver immediately accelerated and took off in a field. 

Following some investigation the officer was able to locate the driver at a residence in Walton. Upon confirming the identity of the driver he was placed under arrest and was charged.

James DURRELL, 33 years of age from Huron East has been charged with Flight from Peace Officer, Driving While Under Suspension and Fail to Wear Proper Helmet on Motorcycle. 

He now has a court appearance scheduled for July 4, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.

SALTER Arrested Again

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A North Huron resident is facing some new charges along with his previous charges from outstanding warrants following an arrest made by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) earlier this week. 

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2022, a Huron County OPP officer came across a male party that was known to be wanted walking along Summerhill Road. The officer stopped the male and upon informing the man he was under arrest for the outstanding warrants the man uttered a threat to the officer. 

The officer was successful in taking the wanted subject into custody and a search incident to arrest revealed the accused to be in possession of two folding knives and stolen property.

Sunday SALTER, 30 years of age from North Huron has been charged with Assault a Peace Officer, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 and Failure to Comply with a Release Order. He was remanded in custody for a bail hearing scheduled for June 1, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

130 in an 80 – GRASBY

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Peterborough resident after they were speeding more than 50km/h over the limit in the Municipality of North Perth.      

On May 27, 2022, just after 8:00 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Perth Road 164 in North Perth after it was found to be travelling more than 130km/h in an 80km/h limit zone.

Jeffrey GRASBY, 33, of Peterborough has been charged with:

–      Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

A 30-day-driving suspension and fourteen-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Assault – CHAMNEY

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On May 28, 2022, at approximately 8:30pm, members of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to an address on Perth Line 86 in the Municipality of North Perth, for the report of an ongoing dispute.

Officers learned that one person was assaulted. The victim received minor injuries.

Meagan CHAMNEY, 36, of Listowel, has been charged with:

–      Assault

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Wingham Drug Bust – Methamphetamine & Cocaine – DILLON

(NORTH HURON, ON) – A South Bruce resident was arrested and taken into custody yesterday afternoon for an outstanding warrant along with some additional charges laid by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

On Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at approximately 3:30 p.m. members of the Huron County OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) were on patrol in Wingham when they observed a wanted person walking on Leopold Street. 

Officers followed the wanted party a short distance before they intercepted the male at the rear of an apartment complex on Minnie Street. Upon informing the man he was under arrest he immediately took off running. Officers gave chase and quickly caught up with the subject. The accused actively resisted arrest and attempted to flee once again. Officers eventually gained control of the subject and he was taken into custody. 

A search incident to arrest revealed the man to be in possession of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine. 

Anthony DILLON, 36 years of age from South Bruce has been charged with Resist Arrest, Possession of Methamphetamine & Possession of Cocaine. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 27, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Fatal Hit & Run With Stolen Vehicle Update – Kiya DIETRICH Charged

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – Members of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Elgin detachment have charged an individual in connection with a collision between a stolen motor vehicle and a cyclist on Wilson Line east of Belmont Road, Malahide Township in October 2021.

Kiya DIETRICH, 21 years old, of Stratford, Ontario has been charged with the following offences: 

  • Failing to Stop At An Accident – Causing Death,
  • Theft under $5000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in St Thomas court at a later date.

On Saturday, October 30, 2021, at approximately 4:50 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin and Middlesex County Detachments, Malahide Fire Service, Central Elgin Fire Service, and Elgin EMS responded to a collision on Wilson Line east of Belmont Road, Malahide Township.

The deceased was previously identified as Michael SMITH, 59 years old of London.

More Impaired Drivers – FRUIN, TOSH & ANDERSON

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested three impaired drivers in the last three days.

  • On May 30, 2022, at 9:38 p.m., a South Bruce OPP officer stopped a vehicle along Concession 12 in Brant Township. The officer found that the driver had been drinking alcohol. Curtis FRUIN, 33-years-old, from the Municipality of Brockton was charged with Impaired Driving and Operate over 80 milligrams.
  • On May 29, 2022, at 12:34 a.m., the South Bruce OPP received a report of a single vehicle crash along Bruce County Road 6 in Culross Township. Officers arrived and found that the driver had been drinking alcohol. James TOSH, 19-years-old, of Wellington North Township was charged with Impaired Driving and Operate over 80 milligrams.
  • On May 28, 2022, at 4:13 a.m., a South Bruce OPP officer stopped a vehicle along Bruce County Road 1 in Kinloss Township. The officer found that the driver had been drinking alcohol. Perry ANDERSON, 43-years-old, from the Municipality of Saugeen Shores was charged with Operate over 80 milligrams.

Each accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton to answer to the charges.

An impaired driving charge includes an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment.

Wroxeter Hero Stands His Ground Against Criminals – Suspects At Large

(HOWICK, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers with the assistance of the Huron OPP Crime Unit are actively investigating a break & enter and attempted robbery that took place in Wroxeter earlier this week.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on May 26, 2022 Huron County OPP members responded to a premise located on Harriston Road in Wroxeter after the owner interrupted a break-in at his garage. 

The owner happened to be in the garage at the time, so he went to check on things when some suspicious noises were heard inside. Two suspects were observed and one of them brandished a weapon demanding keys to a vehicle that was parked outside. 

The suspects were unsuccessful in their bid to get the keys to their desired vehicle, so they quickly took off running to a nearby getaway vehicle. 

Members from the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine and Forensic Identification Services (FIS) later attended the scene to assist with the investigation. 

The suspects are described as one being a taller male, wearing a black ski mask, a black loose-fitting jacket and black pants. The other suspect was described as having a smaller build, wearing a green jacket and a black ski mask. 

The suspect vehicle was described as a smaller car.

Fatal Collision Near Harriston

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – On May 27, 2022, at approximately 6:00 a.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious collision on Highway 89, east of Harriston. Initial reports indicated that a Sport Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.) had been involved in a collision and the lone occupant was seriously injured.

OPP, Minto Fire Department and Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service responded. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Office of the Chief Coroner was notified.

The highway was closed while members of the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team investigated the cause of the collision.

The road has reopened and reconstructionists continue to investigate.

60 Over Speed Limit – Name Released

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a teenager from London with Stunt Driving following a traffic stop that took place last weekend. 

On Saturday, May 21, 2022 at approximately 8:33 a.m. a Huron County OPP officer was patrolling on London Road (Highway 4) near Vanastra when the officer observed a car travelling northbound at a high rate of speed. A RADAR device was utilized and a speed measurement of the vehicle confirmed the vehicle was travelling at a rate of speed more than 60 km/h over the posted 80 km/h zone. 

The driver was stopped and Alwalid EQDAIH of London was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle – Stunt. He now has a court appearance scheduled for July 5, 2022 at Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich

Drunk E-Biker Found Laying On Josephine St.

(NORTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged the operator of an e-bike with Impaired Operation & Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) following an incident that took place in Wingham last weekend.   

On Friday, May 20, 2022, at approximately 9:55 p.m., a Huron County OPP officer was patrolling in Wingham at the intersection of Patrick Street & Josephine Street when he came across the operator of an e-bike laying down on the roadway beside the bike. The officer stopped to check on the operator and upon speaking with her the investigating officer noted the operator was displaying several signs of impairment. 

The operator was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Carol SWEENEY, 52 years of age from Wingham, has been charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus). The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 27, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Rock Fight With Cruiser Ends With Charges

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On May 23, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a mischief on Line 84 in Municipality of North Perth.

A Perth County OPP officer was on general patrol on Perth Road 164 south of Listowel, when a person was observed walking along the highway. The pedestrian was acting erratically and stepped into the live lane of traffic towards the police cruiser. During the interaction with the officer, a large rock was thrown at the cruiser.

Joshua DEHAAN, 27, of no fixed address, has been charged with:

–      Mischief – Interfere with lawful use, enjoyment, or operation of property – under $5000

–      Causing a Disturbance

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Brussels Resident Arrested – Name Released

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On May 19, 2022, just after 9:00p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers initiated a traffic stop of an off-road vehicle on Perth Road 140, in the Municipality of North Perth.

Police observed that the driver of the off-road vehicle was not wearing a helmet and the vehicle had no lights on. The investigation revealed that the driver was also a prohibited driver.    

Raymond LAW, 61, of Brussels, has been charged with:

–      Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code (three counts)

–      Drive off-road vehicle – no insurance

–      Drive off-road vehicle – no number plate

–      Drive off-road vehicle – no permit

–      Fail to wear proper helmet

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

24 Year Old Caught Going 92 in a 50

(PERTH EAST, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Guelph resident after they were speeding more than 42km/h over the limit in the Township of Perth East.     

On May 23, 2022, just before 3:00 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Perth Line 26 in Perth East after it was found to be travelling more than 92km/h in a 50km/h limit zone.

Kaur SEVENDEEP, 24, of Guelph has been charged with:

–      Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

–      Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

A 30-day-driving suspension and fourteen-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Mark BLACKMORE – Hit & Run

(WEST PERTH, ON) – A Woodstock resident has been charged after they reversed the truck they were driving into a hydro pole.

On May 25, 2022, at approximately 9:22 a.m.., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision on Maddison Street East in the Municipality of West Perth.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the driver pulled over, and the vehicle reversed into a hydro pole, causing damage. The road was closed for a number of hours while the damages were repaired.

As a result, Mark BLACKMORE, 52 from Woodstock has been charged with:

–      Careless Driving

–      Fail to remain

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.
