(CALEDON, ON) – On April 30, 2014 at approximately 9:30 pm, a concerned citizen contacted the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to report a possible impaired driver who was involved in single motor vehicle collision on Airport Road. Investigation revealed that the driver was travelling northbound and entered the ditch. Upon arrival, the officers found the vehicle unattended but located the driver on the porch of a private residence close to the scene of the motor vehicle collision. Upon speaking with the driver, the officers detected a strong odour of alcohol on her breath and she demonstrated other signs of impairment.

Subsequently, the driver was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The female was transported to Detachment for testing.

In conclusion, Amanda L. FINDLAY, 50, of Caledon was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Over 80.

The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and her motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to make her first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on May 15, 2014.

(KENORA, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Kenora Detachment Crime Unit with the assistance of Kenora Drug Enforcement Officers of the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), the Kenora Detachment Street Crime Unit and the Kenora Detachment of the OPP have charged five people following a series of crimes over the weekend.

On Saturday April 26, 2014 shortly after 7:00am, OPP received a report that a vehicle had been entered outside a residence in the Ride Out area of Kenora and a firearm had been stolen. While investigating the first report, police received another call that a black GMC Sierra pick-up truck had been stolen within blocks of the first incident. It was estimated that the thefts had occurred overnight.

As the investigation progressed, police continued to receive reports of crimes including several break and enters to seasonal residences on Highway 671 as well as damage to the City of Kenora Transfer Station located in the same area.

On Sunday April 27, 2014 police observed the stolen vehicle on Redditt Road, north of Kenora. A roadblock was set up and the vehicle was stopped. All three occupants of the vehicle were arrested.

Police executed a search warrant on April 28, 2014 at a residence on Mascott Avenue. Police recovered the stolen firearm as well as other stolen property.

Five individuals were charged as a result of the initial investigation.

On Tuesday April 30, 2014 police charged 47-year-old Richard DARLING of Kenora with Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code. The accused is to appear in Kenora Criminal Court on June 5, 2014.

The investigation is continuing.

(Laurentian Hills, Ontario) – The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking the assistance of the public in locating 71 year old Albert DYKS of North Grenville Township, Ontario.

Albert DYKS was last seen on April 30, 2014 just shortly after 7:00 pm. He was last seen on foot leaving a hunt camp located off Barron Canyon Road in the Town of Laurentian Hills, Ontario. He was wearing a gray sweater, blue jeans and running shoes.

Members of the OPP including the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, and Marine Unit are involved in the search.

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at approximately 12:12 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a male, possibly impaired, operating a dirt bike around the village of Eugenia, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

A member of the OPP Highway Safety Division Mount Forest Traffic Management Unit attended the area and observed the suspect operating a Ford garden tractor on his property in Eugenia. Investigation revealed the suspect’s ability to operate any motor vehicle was prohibited due to a life time driving prohibition for an impaired driving conviction. The suspect was warned not to operate any motorized vehicle, anywhere, as a result of his prohibition.

Despite the officer’s warning, the accused drove the lawn tractor onto the roadway and proceeded west bound on Canrobert Street. He was subsequently arrested. A road side breath test was conducted and, although alcohol was a factor, he was not impaired.

Bradley Charles WEATHERALL, 45, of Grey Highlands, is charged with Drive While Disqualified under the Criminal Code, and two counts of Drive While Under Suspension under the Highway Traffic Act. The lawn tractor was impounded for 45 days.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on Thursday, May 29, 2014.

(CALEDON, ON) – On April 30, 2014 shortly after 9:15 pm, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were patrolling in the area of Olde Base Line Road and Torbram Road when they came across a motor vehicle collision. The officers located a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee in the field on the north edge of Base Line Road and observed as the driver operated the vehicle in the field. The officers approached the driver and immediately detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and he displayed other signs of impairment by alcohol.

Subsequently, the driver was read the roadside screening breath demand. The driver’s breath reading registered a fail and he was transported to Detachment for further testing.

In conclusion, Robert J. MALLEN, 57, of Caledon was arrested and charged with Care or Control Over 80 mgs.

(ORILLIA, ON) – On Thursday April 24, 2014, members of the Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment, including the Street Crime Unit (SCU), Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) and the Canine Unit made drug arrests at a Memorial Avenue address.

Officers arrested two females after observing what they believed to be a drug transaction. After further investigation a male party was arrested leaving a Memorial Avenue address. The arrests led to a warrant being executed at the Memorial Avenue address and police seized a quantity of drugs consisting of the following:

1 gram Cannabis Resin

2.5 grams of Marihuana

3.4 grams of Heroin

45 grams of Cocaine

3 hydromorphone pills

Police also seized scales, cell phones and a quantity of cash.

Jeremy JOHN, 42 years old from Orillia has been charged with various drug offences and was held in custody. His next court date is May 5, 2014.

Meghan WALSH, 26 years old from Oro Medonte has been charged with various drug offences. She was released on a Promise to Appear and has a court date in Orillia on June 3, 2014.

Nina NUTBEAN, 28 years old from Orillia has been charged with Possession of Cocaine. She was released on a Promise to Appear and has a court date in Orillia on June 3, 2014.

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers are looking for a Paris man who left his home in an upset state. The County of Brant OPP detachment is looking for the public’s assistance in locating the male. He is driving a silver Saturn VUE with Ontario licence plate BHYT519. (Augusta Twp. ON) At approximately 7:20 pm on Wednesday April 30, 2014 officers from the Grenville County OPP – Prescott Detachment were advised of a possible impaired driver operating a Budget Rental cube van eastbound on the 401 Hwy near mm 705 in Augusta Twp. The complainant reports the van to be driven in a dangerous and unsafe manner and to have witnessed the van moving from lane to lane, being operated on the paved shoulder and to have struck an MTO sign at the off ramp at mm 705.

Police observed the vehicle on the Hwy 401 at mm 716 and shortly afterwards stopped the vehicle. Officers noted a strong odour of alcohol coming from his breath and observed other signs of impairment. The driver was placed under arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and transported to the Kemptvlle detachment for breath tests.

67 year old male, Robert LAFLAMME of Russell Twp was charged with Impaired Driving, Exceed 80 and fail to report damage to property on Highway. He is to appear in Brockville Court at a later date.

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers have seen a rise in the amount of Graffiti in the County of Brant.

The County of Brant OPP is looking for the public’s help in eradicating the Graffiti. If you see any new forms of graffiti, please call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and report it. Parents watch for missing spray paint cans our other products. Local businesses can question youths that are purchasing paint and other products that can be used for graffiti.

The goal of Graffiti Eradication is to remove it as soon as possible and to deter any further acts of graffiti. With a unified community we can eliminate graffiti.

(Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Twp, ON.) At approximately 10:35 pm on Wednesday April 30, 2014 officers from the Grenville County OPP – Prescott Detachment responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle collision on the 401 Hwy eastbound approx. 5 km west of Cardinal Ontario.

A Tractor trailer was traveling eastbound on the 401 Hwy. when attempting to avoid a deer hit the shoulder of the road and was pulled into the median. The tractor stayed upright however the trailers flipped onto their sides. Two trailers were carrying petroleum.

Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Transportation, Edwardsbrugh/Cardinal Fire and Drain All attended and remain on scene.

Both east and west bound traffic is closed between exit 730 (Cardinal) and 721(b), (Johnstown) while tankers are drained and removed.

Highway expected to open later this afternoon.

(CITY OF TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) No vehicle shall be driven or operated to the left of a centre of a roadway (passing) when approaching within 30 metres of a level railway crossing.

Understand that school buses are required to stop at railway crossings under the Highway Traffic Act.

Passing upon approaching a level railway crossing can result in charges under section 149(1)(b) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario and faces a total penalty of $110.00.

Members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police would like to remind motorists that they shall be cautious and familiar with the laws regarding approaching a railway.

Speeding, disobeying traffic controls (lights and/or signs), and failing to yield right-of-way accounts for many preventable collisions.

Drivers must take responsibility and this will reduce the risks on the road. Please drive defensively and safely. Drive according to the weather and road conditions.

(CITY OF TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) Members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police would like to remind motorists that there is a requirement to yield to (transit) buses from the bus stop.

The Highway Traffic Act explains that every driver of a vehicle in the lane of traffic adjacent to a bus stop shall yield the right of way to the driver of a bus who has indicated their intention to re-enter that lane.

Failing to yield to a bus re-entering a lane from a bus stop can face a total penalty of $110.00 under section 142.1 of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
