(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On May 20, 2014, police reported that Mariah WILSON, age 15 years of Fort Frances, ON was reported missing. As of May 22, 2014, the public can be advised that Ms. WILSON was located safe and sound in Couchiching First Nation.

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received funding from the Ministry of Children and Youth Services to hire two students for the Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI). Successful applicants for the position will assist the Community Services Officer with delivery of public safety programs within the Rainy River District. The students will also be seen as ambassadors for the OPP and the Town of Fort Frances. Pay for the position will be $11.93 an hour based on a 40 hour week for a total of 8 weeks per youth. Occasional weekend shifts required. Criteria on which the applicants will be chosen include:
Applicants must reside in the area of Fort Frances
Be between the ages of 14 and 17 years of age.
Must be returning to school in September.
Cannot apply if applicant has participated in the program in the past

(STRATHROY- CARADOC, ON) The Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service is currently investigating the sudden death of a young child that occurred on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, on Penny Lane in the Municipality of Strathroy Caradoc.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and the OPP Forensic Identification Unit have been called in to assist with the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing and further details will be released when available.

(Napanee, ON) – Today, May 22, 2014, the Napanee Crime Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged 72-year old Neil Joynt with one (1) count of Sexual Assault – male.
As a result of an investigation, the victim, who was a young person at the time of the offence during the 1980’s, came forward to police.
Joynt is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Napanee on June 10, 2014. He is presently released on a undertaking with conditions.

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On Tuesday May 19, 2014 at approximately 2:00 pm CST, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were contacted by a Minnesota tourist outfitter to advise that one of the camp patrons who had set out on a canoe trip had sent a SPOT locater message indicating they needed help on Kawnipi Lake in Quetico Park.
Police were informed of the GPS coordinates and made efforts to respond that day but were delayed due to poor weather. CORRECTION – Quetico park employees in the area located the canoeist. His canoe had drifted away from him and he was stranded on the lake. They retrieved his canoe. OPP Emergency Response Team members were unable to fly due to poor weather conditions and were subsequently stood down.

(Christian Island, On)- Members of the Anishinabek Police Service were alerted to the discovery of what would appear to be human remains late in the afternoon of May 15, 2014 in an area south of West Beach on Christian Island.
A request was made to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to assist in this investigation which resulted in members being dispatched from the OPP Southern Georgian Bay Detachment along with members of the OPP Central Region Crime and Marine Unit’s, Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) of OPP General Headquarters (GHQ) Orillia, all under the direction of A/Detective Inspector Chris Loam of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) OPP GHQ.
A search of the area resulted in remains and other scene exhibits being removed for further examination at the Office of the Chief Coroner in Toronto so as to determine their origin, identity and possible cause of death.
This investigation has revealed that the found remains are those of Penny WARNE who at the age of 57 years was reported missing from her Wasaga Beach home on Feb 15, 2009. Investigators have ruled out foul play as a cause of death and have concluded their investigation of this incident. Investigators wish to thank all of those who assisted officers in the search for Penny stemming back to her 2009 disappearance.
(TWEED, ON) – On May 21, 2014 at 5:00 a.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), East Region Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Central Hastings Detachment executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act warrant at an apartment on Victoria Street North in the Municipality of Tweed.
Investigators seized a small quantity of cocaine and marihuana as well as a prohibited weapon brass knuckles. Two firearms were also found to be stored unsafely.
As a result 25 year old Adam KILPATRICK of Tweed, ON was arrested and charged with Possession of Marihuana, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm. He will appear in Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville on July 3, 2014.
(Hwy# 62, ON) – On May 21, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver travelling on Highway # 62 in the Municipality of Centre Hastings. Within minutes officers located the driver in the Village of Madoc. As a result of the investigation, 50 year old Francis MONTANA of Madoc, ON was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving, Over 80mg and Drive While Disqualified, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was also charged with Drive While Under Suspension and Drive Motor Vehicle Not Equipped with Interlock Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville on June 12, 2014.
(Amaranth, ON) – On May 18, 2014 at 3:18 pm Dufferin OPP were dispatched to an address on 10th Line of Amaranth on report of careless use of firearm. The property owner reported that stray bullets had struck his residence and garage including going through walls and windows.
Preliminary Investigation reveals that 6 adults were discharging firearms on Dufferin County Rd. #109 and stray bullets struck windows on a residence and went through walls of garage located on 10th Line of Amaranth Township.
As result of thorough investigation by OPP and Ministry of Natural Resources Police have laid charges of Careless Use of Firearm against 6 adults.
Nicholas Kelly,50 years old and Chris Witter, 45 year of age of Puslinch, as well as Daniel McNaughton,27 years of age and Danielle Ray of Guelph, and Brett Miller, 23 years old of West Grey, and Gerald Rieger, 48 of Kitchener were all arrested, charged and released on June 24,2014 to answer to the charges.
The Firearms were seized by police until conclusion of court proceedings.

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on West River Road between Glen Morris Road and the Brant Waterloo Road in the County of Brant.
At approximately 8:20 a.m. Thursday May 22nd, 2014, a Ford Focus was travelling south bound on the West River Road and for unknown reasons left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver of the vehicle Aidan FLEMING 23 years of age from the City of Toronto, the lone occupant, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by Coroner Doctor EWEN.
West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting the County of Brant OPP with the investigation. West River Road between Glen Morris Road and the Brant Waterloo Road is now reopened.
(POINT EDWARD, ON) On May 22, 2014 just after 10:00 a.m. Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Lambton Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Point Edward Fire Service responded to the Blue Water Bridge after receiving a call that a vehicle driver had abandoned a motor vehicle on the north span of the bridge, and that the driver allegedly jumped from the bridge into the St. Clair River.
Calls for assistance also went out to Canada Coast Guard, the United States Coast Guard (USCG), Sarnia Fire Service, Lambton OPP Marine, and the Sarnia Police Service (SPS).
Firefighters and uniformed officers from Lambton OPP and SPS have been searching from along the shoreline of the St. Clair River while the Lambton OPP Marine vessel searches the water. A USCG helicopter is also providing search capabilities along the St. Clair River.
The north span of the Blue Water Bridge handles west bound traffic from Canada to the Unites States. West bound traffic had been stopped during a part of the investigation but is now moving.
The search efforts are continuing.
(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment continues to receive calls from concerned residents regarding their computers that appear to have been locked by government agencies or various police services.
On Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at approximately 9:26 a.m., police received a call from a concerned Norfolk County resident reporting that their computer has been frozen and they had been “locked out†after receiving pop-up messages warning them that they been associated to child pornography web sites. These warnings claimed to be from a government agency or police service and requested the recipient to pay a fine so their computer could be “unlockedâ€Â.
These types of messages are commonly known as scareware, and are designed to create anxiety and complete shock for the computer owner resulting in the owner sending money.
If you receive one of these messages, please be aware that this is a scam. These messages are not being issued by any police service or government agency. If you’ve been “locked out†of your computer, this is an indication that your computer system may have been infected with malware and you will need to take steps to address the problem.
(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment has charged a 61 year old male after police investigated a vehicle at a Hillcrest Road, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.
On Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at approximately 11:13 a.m., police were conducting patrols in the area of Hillcrest Road, when a vehicle was observed in the ditch attracted an officer’s attention. The driver and vehicle was subsequently investigated.
As a result of investigation, police arrested and charged 61 year old Edward DEBUSSCHERE of Norfolk County, Ontario with driving over the legal limit.
He is to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the charge.
(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is reminding the public to protect their property and valuables against would be thieves after a theft was reported at a Connaught Avenue, Delhi, Norfolk County, Ontario address.
On Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at approximately 4:45 p.m., police attended an address after being contacted by a concerned homeowner after several items were taken from the front of the residence.
Through investigation it was determined that the homeowner was outside doing maintenance and walked to the backyard of the property. While in the backyard, unknown suspect(s) removed a weed eater, full container of gasoline and a pair of gloves.
