OPP SEEKING ASSISTANCE LOCATING MISSING TINY TOWNSHIP MAN

(Tiny Township)- Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are asking for assistance in locating a Tiny Township man who was reported missing from a north Tiny Township group home where he resides at 10:30pm May 23, 2014.

The missing man is Ronald Leigh WARD age 64 years and is described as being of medium build, 68kg,168cm tall with gray hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a black shirt. (See attached photo)

It is believed he may be in the Midland/Penetanguishene area and there is a concern for his wellbeing. Anyone having seen him or knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, thank you.

Amanda DUMONT and Scott BAKKER – Criminal Negligence Causing Death

(STRATHROY- CARADOC, ON) The Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service has now charged two persons in connection to the sudden death of a young child that occurred on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, on Penny Lane in the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc.

On Friday May 24th, 2014 as a result of the investigation Police arrested 28 year old Amanda DUMONT and 24 year old Scott BAKKER at a Pannell Lane, Town of Strathroy, ON address.

Both accused have been charged with Criminal Negligence Causing Death and Failing to Provide the Necessaries of Life. They are currently in custody to await a bail hearing on Monday May 26th, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice in London, ON.

The victim is identified as 20 month old Ryker DAPONTE-MICHAUD of Strathroy, ON.

Strathroy-Caradoc Police and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are continuing this investigation under the direction of Acting Detective Inspector Heidi Stewart of the Criminal Investigation Branch.

PLANE CRASH ON TAYLOR LAKE

(MUNICIPALITY OF WHITESTONE, ON) – On May 24, 2014 shortly before 8 a.m., officers from the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a plane crash on Taylor Lake in the Municipality of Whitestone.

A 185 Cessna airplane attempted to land on Taylor Lake and flipped over. The male pilot is trapped underwater and believed to be the lone occupant at this time. Officers with the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU), West Parry Sound Detachment and Marine Unit along with members of the Whitestone Fire Department and Paramedics are currently on-scene.

Joint Rescue Coordinator Centre (JRCC) and Transport Canada Safety Board have all been notified and will be attending to assist in the investigation.

Investigation is ongoing.

Damage to Moosonee Cemetery

(MOOSONEE, ON) – On May 22, 2014 at 1:10 pm members of the Moosonee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an abandoned vehicle at the cemetery located on Quarry Road. Officers attended the cemetery and located a large Ford Econoline van that had become stuck in soft soil and had knocked over a headstone.

Through investigation officers located the male responsible near his place of employment and discovered that he was working at the time of the incident. The male was arrested for mischief and officers demanded he provide samples of his breath into an approved screening device. The male was subsequently arrested for operating a motor vehicle with excess of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

The accused was transported to the Moosonee OPP Detachment where he provided further breath samples.

As a result of the investigation, Brian WESLEY (31) of Moosonee, Ontario, is charged with the following offences.

– Driving while ability impaired

– Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood

– Mischief under $5000

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Moosonee, Ontario on 8 July, 2014. He was also issued an Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension for a period of 90 days.

MALE AND FEMALE ARRESTED IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT

(MOOSONEE, ON) – At approximately 2:40am pm on May 23, 2014 members of the Moosonee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call regarding an assault in progress on Moose Drive in the Town of Moosonee.

Officers attended the residence and located a female victim in the residence with minor injuries. The victim, known to police, was arrested on the strength of a warrant for previous assault related charges.

The male accused was arrested a short distance away walking down Moose Drive. He is being charged with the following offences:

– Assault with a weapon

– Fail to comply with probation

Both parties have been held in custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins, Ontario on 26 May, 2014.

THIEVES ATTEMPT TO STEAL ATM IN SCOTLAND

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers are investigating the attempt theft of an ATM from the Royal Bank in Scotland, in the County of Brant.

At approximately 4:35 a.m. on Thursday May 23rd, 2014 suspects attempted to remove the ATM at the Royal Bank. The suspects attached a chain to the ATM and tried to pull it with a black Chevrolet pickup truck. The suspects were unsuccessful and left the area. The pickup truck was located on Six Nations, but there may have been other vehicles involved.

UPDATE TO MISSING PERSONS IN ALGONQUIN PROVINCIAL PARK

(Algonquin Provincial Park, ON) The Underwater Search and Recovery Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police have temporarily suspended their search for the two missing males at Opeongo Lake, Algonquin Provincial Park. Tim Kolder, 19 years of age of Mississauga and Jeremy Marrows, 21 years of age of Georgetown have been missing since May 15, 2014 when their canoes capsized.

The Underwater Search and Recovery Unit will resume their search upon re-evaluation of the search area.

ONE SERIOUSLY INJURED IN MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(ESPANOLA, ON) – On May 23, 2014 at approximately 6:40 a.m., officers from the Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 17, near Manninen Rd. Lorne Township.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound passenger vehicle struck an eastbound tractor-trailer.

The 23 year old male driver, of the passenger vehicle, was air lifted to the hospital with serious injuries and is listed in critical but stable condition.

The 59 year old male driver, of the tractor trailer was also transported to hospital via ambulance where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of an OPP Collision Reconstructionist and an OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator who are on-scene at this time. The highway is open to intermittent traffic at this time.

MALE ARRESTED AFTER SHORT PURSUIT

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – On May 19, 2014 at approximately 2:45 a.m. an OPP officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 35 near Lifford Road and subsequently attempted to stop the vehicle.

When the vehicle would not stop the officer initiated a suspect apprehension pursuit (SAP) which resulted in the vehicle stopping, without incident, approximately 3 kms from the initial location, on Highway 7A.

Once the vehicle was stopped the officer commenced an investigation and determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. A road side breath test was administered and the driver was arrested when he failed the test.

Keith RYAN, 36 years of age, of Fenelon Township, was charged with flight while pursued by peace officer, driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood and speeding.

The accused will appear in court, in Lindsay, on June 19, 2014.

OPP INVESTIGATING BREAK AND ENTER

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is investigating a Break and Enter at a Charlotteville Road 1, Charlotteville, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Thursday, May 22, 2014 between 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., unknowns attended the address and gained entry into an outbuilding located on the property. Once inside, unknowns proceeded to remove an antique table.

The OPP recognize that break and enters continue to remain an all-too common occurrence in Canada, with more than 200,000 reported to police annually of which 6 in 10 are residential. Another 30% are businesses and 10% are other locations such as sheds and detached garages.

Collision Involving Ambulance

At 10:25am emergency crews responded to a collision involving an ambulance at the intersection of 10th Street West and 1st Avenue West. A Toyota travelling southbound on 1st Avenue West collided with an ambulance travelling eastbound 10th Street West. The ambulance had its emergency lights and siren activated and was travelling to the hospital with a patient.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to hospital and treated for minor injuries. No one in the ambulance was injured as a result of the accident. The patient was transferred to another ambulance and transported to hospital.

Both the Toyota and the ambulance had to be towed from the intersection.

Owen Sound Police are continuing to investigate and charges are pending.

Arrest Made In Wingham Robbery At Mac’s Milk

Wingham Police have one 17 year old youth in custody following the armed robbery at Mac’s Convenience Store on May 22nd. In addition to this incident, it is alleged that the youth was involved an attempted robbery from a Josephine Street Business on May 24th.

The youth is being held in custody pending an audio appearance on May 25th. He faces several charges including robbery, wearing a disguise and possession of a weapon. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed any of these occurrences to contact the Wingham Police at (519) 357-1212.

Samuel BARLOW – Drunk Driving, Rolled Vehicle

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a 19 year old male with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. Just before 6:00 a.m. on May 19, 2014 Huron County OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Bayfield Road near Orchard Line. Investigation revealed the driver of a Honda Civic was travelling eastbound when the driver lost control of his car and rolled it.

Huron County EMS and Huron County OPP arrived on scene and discovered the heavily damaged Honda Civic on the roadway. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was found walking nearby his vehicle. Upon speaking with the driver it was noted the driver had consumed alcohol and was displaying signs that he was impaired by alcohol. Officers arrested the driver for impaired driving and he was immediately transported to hospital to receive treatment for the minor injuries he sustained in the collision.

While at the hospital he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both tests were over the legal limit.

As a result, Samuel BARLOW, 19, from Goderich, has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on June 30, 2014. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

Thomas BRADLEY – Drunk Driving

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – The first vehicle to enter a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint last night resulted in the arrest of a 22 year old male. driver. At 10:45 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting a (R.I.D.E) program at the intersection of Sawmill Road and Old River Road just north of Bayfield when a GMC Jimmy entered the checkpoint.

Upon speaking with the driver officers noted he had been consuming alcohol. Further investigation revealed there were open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle.

The driver provided a sample of his breath into a roadside screening device and he registered a fail. He was arrested at the scene for Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. At the detachment he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples were over the legal limit.

As a result, Thomas BRADLEY, 22, from Kincardine, has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and Have Liquor in Open Container other than Licensed Premise. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on June 23, 2014. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

A 19 year old female from Central Huron and a 25 year old male from Kincardine were also charged with “Have Liquor in Open Container other than Licensed Premise”.
