(Bancroft, Ontario) – On Friday June 06th and Saturday June 07th 2014, the Bancroft detachment received the report of two break and enters on Airport Road in Faraday Township. Investigation revealed that sometime since April 19th, two residences were forcibly entered. Property reported stolen included a drill, various hand tools and binoculars.

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On Sunday, June 8, 2014, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a residence on Southgate Road 10 in the Township of Southgate as a result of a residential alarm.

Witnesses observed an unknown male exit the front door of the residence. Police attended and the male was arrested for break and entering. He was found to be in possession of break-in tools.

Joseph Damian YORKE, 45, of the Township of Southgate, was charged with break and enter into a dwelling and possession of break-in instruments.

YORKE was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for Monday, June 9, 2014.

(INGERSOLL, ON.) – The Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to investigate several reports of graffiti sprayed throughout The Town of Ingersoll overnight between June 6 and 7, 2014.

The mischief was discovered shortly after 7:00 a.m. on June 7, 2014 and further damage was discovered as OPP investigated. The main areas targeted included the downtown core and north up to and including Alma Street.

In total, three residences, three churches, two schools, three buildings, three playground/park areas, one fire hydrant, one dumpster, four signs, several roadways/sidewalks, several sheds, and fourteen vehicles were the target of the graffiti. The downtown gazebo wooden floor, along with the playground equipment at Garnett Elliott and Yvonne Holmes Memorial park were also targeted.

The graffiti is believed to all be done using the same or similar white paint.

Damages are estimated to exceed $5,000.

(STRATHROY-CARADOC TWP, ON) – On June 7, 2014 at approximately 9:00 a.m. Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle travelling on Highway 402 in the Strathroy-Caradoc Township. When police asked for identification, the driver was unable to produce a valid driver’s licence. Police discovered the driver was disqualified from driving from a previous Criminal Code conviction. Further investigation also revealed the driver was in possession of marijuana.

James SKELHORN, age 41 of Cannington, ON was charged with one count of Drive While Disqualified, contrary to Section 259(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) and one count of Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marijuana Under 30 grams, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

The vehicle was impounded for 45 days

The accused was released by way of a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in a London courtroom August 8, 2014 to speak to the charges.

(TILLSONBURG, ON.) – Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a break and enter to a residence located on Fourth Street, in the Town of Tillsonburg. It occurred between June 8 and June 9, 2014, between the hours of 11:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. Unknown suspect(s) forcibly entered the second floor apartment of the residence.

Four Firearms

Norinco 1911 – 45 calibre handgun with two 7 round magazines
Colt 1911 – 22 calibre handgun with 10 round magazine
Smith & Wesson M&P – 223 calibre rifle
Hatsan Escort Marine – 12 gauge shotgun

Ammunition

200 rounds of .223 calibre
45 rounds of .45 calibre

(CHIPPEWAS OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION, ON) – A young female has been charged with numerous charges after stealing a vehicle and fleeing from police. On Tuesday June 3, 2014 at approximately 3:21 p.m. Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Police responded to a report of a 16 year old female who stole a passenger van from the Nimkee Healing Lodge located in Chippewas of the Thames First Nation.

The suspect vehicle was observed a short time later by an officer with the Oneida Police Service. The vehicle failed to stop for police and continued into Elgin County along Iona Road. The suspect vehicle evaded a tire deflation device that was deployed and drove into an adjacent field in the area of Fingal Line.

The suspect vehicle was eventually stopped with the assistance of officers from the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County OPP and a 16 year old female was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, police have charged the youth with the following offences:

Young Person Theft Over $5000 of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to S. 334(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC).
Young Person Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to S. 249(1)(a) of the CCC.
Young Person Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer, contrary to S. 249.1(1) of the CCC.
Young Person Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking Given by Officer in Charge, contrary to S. 145(5.1) of the CCC.

The youth was remanded into custody and later released by way of a Recognizance.

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is investigating an act of mischief at an Ordnance Avenue, Turkey Point, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Friday, June 6, 2014 at approximately 5:16 p.m., unknown suspects attended the address and proceeded to damage the screen on a large kitchen door leading to the residence.

The damage is estimated at approximately $2,000 dollars.

The OPP want to remind all residents that if they see anything suspicious to please contact the police. If anyone is found committing acts of Mischief, appropriate charges will be laid.

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – A driver has been charged in relation to a single vehicle collision involving a transport truck Sunday morning.

On Sunday June 8, 2014 at approximately 11:00 a.m. Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), OPP West Region Highway Enforcement Team, Thames Centre Fire Department and Middlesex London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a transport truck rollover in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 by Dorchester Road in the Municipality of Thames Centre.

Police have learned that a westbound transport truck was too close to other vehicles decelerating on the highway. In an attempt to avoid colliding with the traffic ahead, the transport braked, skidded across the westbound lanes and eventually rolled and struck the centre median blocking all westbound lanes and casting debris into eastbound traffic.

The driver was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.

Police reduced the eastbound lanes and closed all westbound lanes for approximately four and a half hours as they investigated and to assist with the cleanup.

As a result of the investigation, police have charged driver Oscar FLORES, age 55 of Hamilton, ON with Follow Too Closely under Section 158(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

Police are reminding motorists to ensure enough distance is maintained between your vehicle and the one you are following. You must be able to react in time to avoid a collision, bring your vehicle to a safe stop and keep control of your vehicle at all times.

(NORTH BAY, ON)-Members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a single motor vehicle collision involving an OPP cruiser. The collision happened at approximately 10 a.m., June 9, 2014, on Highway 11, near Ellesmere Rd.

The driver obtained minor injuries.

Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI)and .Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) are at the scene assisting with the investigation.

The highway has one lane opened intermittently and the detour on Highway 64 is still in place.
