(GREY COUNTY – GEORGIAN BAY, ON) – On Sunday, June 15, 2014, at approximately 4:40 p.m., the Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marine Unit warned two vessel operators for failing to keep a proper lookout after their vessels collided in Georgian Bay. There were no injuries reported and the damage to the vessels was minimal.

The operator of a 32’ Catalina 320 sail boat, with 2 people on board, and the operator of a 24’ Limestone Express powered by a 454 hp Mercury inboard/outboard engine, with 6 people on board, did not see each other until seconds before the collision. Each operator took evasive action by altering their vessel’s course, however, the bow area of the Catalina struck the starboard side of the Limestone.

Rule 5 of the Collision Regulations of the Canada Shipping Act 2001 states that the operator of a vessel under way must keep a proper lookout at all times. Both operators were warned for failing to do this.

(COBOURG, ON) – On June 16, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break, enter and theft from a shed of a Cobourg resident within the previous two weeks.

OPP investigated the complaint where it was determined that unknown persons stole a 13 horsepower Honda pressure washer, a 660 Stihl chainsaw and a 9 horsepower Honda pump. The estimated total value of the property is $4,400.

This investigation is being continued by Northumberland Street Response Team members.

(TECUMSEH, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Tecumseh is investigating a string of thefts to unlocked vehicles which occurred sometime overnight on May 25, 2014.

The crimes occurred in the area of St. Mark’s Road in Tecumseh and numerous items were stolen in the process.

Amidst the thefts, the unknown suspect(s) discovered an unlocked residence, entered it and stole two unique vintage re-issue Fender Stratocaster guitars. The one guitar is described as a black Jimi Hendrix Voodoo (right-handed)—unique in that the neck is reversed and upside down.

The second guitar is described as being a right-handed vintage ’57 starburst re-issue.

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – In the afternoon of Sunday June 15, 2015 and overnight the same day, Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received several reports of thefts from unlocked vehicles.

At about 1:20 pm on Sunday, OPP took a theft report from a victim at the eastbound On Route service center near Port Hope. The victim and his friend were travelling in a rental vehicle and left it unlocked while they went to eat. Stolen from the 2014 Chevrolet was a black luggage bag with high end clothing articles and $1,000 in assorted Canadian currency.

Later the same day during overnight hours, thieves then targeted the Sunrise Court area of Hamilton Township where three vehicles were entered. One vehicle did not have anything taken, but the other two had Apple products and accessories stolen.

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding the public to consider leaving their pets at home and not in parked vehicles with the warm weather here. Recently officers were called to investigate a vehicle parked in Fergus with a dog inside. The owner was located and a potentially deadly situation was prevented because of a concerned citizen that contacted police.

A vehicle parked in the shade on a mild day with the windows slightly open can quickly reach deadly temperatures. Owners who choose to leave pets unattended in vehicles may face charges under the Ontario SPCA Act or the Criminal Code of Canada.

(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) -On June 18, 2014 at approximately 12:58 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a contractor that was performing work behind the Wellington County Library-Rockwood Branch. Damage was caused to a natural gas line by the workers and Union Gas quickly responded to the scene to shut down the gas line.

A road closure occurred on Main Street North, Rockwood from Jackson Street to the South Wellington County OPP Operations Centre for approximately 15 minutes. Officers along with members of the Guelph-Eramosa Fire Department knocked on the doors of seven homes to evacuate residents for safety reasons. No one was injured with this incident.

(POINT EDWARD, ON) Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in relation to a collision that occurred in Point Edward on June 12, 2014 at around 2:00 a.m.

Investigation determined that a Chevrolet Cobalt struck a fence and then crashed into a parked car in the area of Front Street and Village Green. The four occupants of the vehicle fled the scene prior to police arrival. Three of the four occupants, two 20 year old females and a 21 year old male all from Windsor, attended a local hospital where they were treated and released.

The 21 year old driver, Brandon KRYSKA, who is from Lloydminster, British Columbia, was not injured. He has been charged with careless driving, fail to remain, and fail to report accident all under the Highway Traffic Act. He will appear in a Sarnia Provincial Court of Justice to answer to the charges at a later time.

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On June 17, 2014, just before 2:30 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was travelling on Highway 401 eastbound near Kent Bridge Road, alongside a Volvo tractor trailer.

The officer observed that the driver’s attention was directed toward paperwork in his hand, which he appeared to be reading.

The officer stopped the vehicle and had conversation with the driver. The driver, 48 year old Robert WIGGINS, from Wakefield, QC, has been charged with Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

(ANGUS, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Nottawasaga Detachment are working with municipal officials and other emergency management agencies to ensure public safety following yesterday’s tornado in Angus.

300 residents have been affected and 100 homes have been damaged to varying degrees by this significant weather event. Three people are believed to have sustained minor injuries. Efforts are underway to ensure personal property and residential structures remain secure while building inspectors assess damage at each location.

Directly-affected residents, neighbours and the media are asked to refrain from attending these homes for their own personal safety. More information will be provided to residents only at a meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18th at the Essa Township Recreation Centre, located at 8529 County Road 10 in Essa Township. The media will be updated after that meeting.

(Bancroft, Ontario) – On Sunday June 15th 2014, an officer from the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle on Highway 62 in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands that was driving in excess of the posted speed limit. Further investigation revealed that the male driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested for failing an approved instrument and transported to the Bancroft OPP detachment for further breath tests.

39 year old Michael OHLSCHLAGER of the Municipality of Hastings Highlands has been charged with:
• Operate a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood
• Operate a motor vehicle with no insurance
• Use plate not authorized for vehicle

Mr. OHLSCHLAGER was released from custody on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on the 15th of July 2014.

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at approximately 9:23 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a cyclist struck by a vehicle on Hwy. 6 & 21, at the entrance to the Grey County Mall on the Sunset Strip, in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

The suspect vehicle, a red Toyota (model unknown), was travelling eastbound on Hwy. 6 & 21. As the Toyota proceeded to make a left turn into the Grey County Mall, it struck the cyclist, who was riding west bound on Hwy. 6 & 21.

After a brief conversation with the cyclist, the driver of the Toyota left the scene.

The victim, a 17 year old male from Owen Sound, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and released.

The driver of the Toyota was described as female, approximately 50-60 years of age, thin, white hair and wearing glasses. The Toyota’s driver’s side mirror may be damaged or missing.

(TILLSONBURG, ON.) – Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a break and enter to a residence located on Fourth Street, in the Town of Tillsonburg which occurred between June 8 and June 9, 2014.

As a result of investigation and warrants executed, three firearms were recovered and four males arrested. On June 15, 2014, the outstanding Smith & Wesson M&P – 223 calibre rifle was recovered by OPP in Norfolk County.

The four males charged are facing a total of 35 Criminal Code charges, and remain in custody pending bail hearings.

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is reminding the public to protect their property and valuables against would be thieves after a vehicle entry was reported at a Concession 12, Townsend, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at approximately 3:27 a.m., a homeowner was awoken by their dog after the animal was continually barking. The resident attended outside and noticed that doors on their vehicles parked in the driveway of the residence were open.

It does not appear that was taken from either vehicle and police are reminding all residents to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables from plain view.

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is reminding the public to protect their property and valuables against would be thieves after receiving a report of a theft from a Blueline Road, Woodhouse, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

Between Sunday, May 18, 2014 and Sunday, June 15, 2014, unknown suspects attended the Port Dover Cemetery and proceeded to remove a brass flower holder from a grave site.

The holder is described as having a thin chain attached with a handle that protruded from the ground to allow the holder to be removed.

The theft is estimated at approximately $1,000 dollars.

The OPP would like to remind all community residents that if they see suspicious persons or vehicles, try to obtain as much detail as you can, write down the person(s) description, the type of vehicle they are driving and the licence plate number.

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is reminding the public to protect their property and valuables against would be thieves after receiving a report of a theft from a Argyle Avenue, Delhi, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

Between Friday, June 13, 2014 and Monday, June 16, 2014, unknown suspects attended the address and proceeded to remove a trolling motor from a boat that was located on the property.

The motor is described as a Shakespear trolling motor, black and green in colour and is valued at approximately $1,000 dollars.
