(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Sometime overnight on June 17, 2014 unknown persons went to the Essex Top Crop Sales business and stole diesel fuel from a tractor trailer parked next to the building.

Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received the theft report at approximately 8:00 am on June 18. There were two tractor trailer trucks parked side by side from 5:00 pm to 7:00 am. Both trucks are equipped with anti-siphon devices on their gas tanks. Suspects managed to defeat the anti-siphon unit on one truck and took approximately 373 litres of diesel fuel. The estimated loss of gas and cost to repair the aluminum fuel tank is $500.

Also on June 18, a resident in Campbellford reported that a vehicle parked at the water treatment plant had the hose from their vehicle’s gas tank was cut and fuel was siphoned from it. The estimated value of the loss is unknown at this time.

OPP are continuing to investigate these occurrences and would like to remind residents and business owners to be extra vigilant for suspicious persons or activity in and around vehicles, detached fuel tanks or other fuel containment areas because of the continuing rise of gas prices. Any suspicious person or activity should be reported to Police immediately.

(BARRIE. ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Child Sexual Exploitation Unit (Project “P”) in conjunction with South Simcoe Police Service and Barrie Police Service conducted a two month on-line undercover child pornography investigation titled Project Masquerade.

During the two month period, police identified individuals distributing child sexual exploitation images and attempting to lure children on the internet. Police executed a total of seven criminal code search warrants. The warrants were conducted in Barrie, Bradford, Kitchener and St. Catharines Ontario. The Niagara Regional Police Service and Waterloo Regional Police Service assisted with the investigation. Police have seized a quantity of computer devices and cellular phones containing images of child sexual abuse.

(Otonabee South Monaghan Township, ON) – On Wednesday June 19, members of the Peterborough County OPP were called to investigate a number of Thefts reported by residents in the Burnham Line and Old Norwood Road area of Otonabee South Monaghan Township.

At some time in the late evening and early morning of June 18-19, unknown suspects attended several residence along Old Norwood Road and Burnham Line. At this time the suspects entered a number of unlocked motor vehicles and stole small amounts of change from each vehicle.

At one Burnham Line address the suspects gained entry to a locked shed and stole a purple mountain bike, at the same time leaving behind a mountain bike they brought with them.

(NORTH MIDDLESEX, ON) – On Friday, June 13, 2014, at approximately 7:03 a.m. Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an overnight break, enter and theft to a residence and detached garage in North Middlesex.

A bicycle, alcohol and a wallet were stolen.

As a result of the police investigation, the stolen property was recovered and a 16 year old male from the Municipality of North Middlesex ON was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime not exceeding $5000.00, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The youth was released and will be appearing in the London courts to answer to the charge.

(Bancroft, Ontario) – On Wednesday the 18th of June 2014, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received the report of a vehicle theft from a residence on Highway 28 in Faraday Township. Investigation revealed that sometime between 9:00 p.m. on June 17th and 4:40 p.m. on June 18th, silver 2000 Jaguar was stolen from a driveway.

(BLANDFORD BLENHEIM TWP, ON.) – Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a break and enter to a residence located on Township Road 4, in Blandford Blenheim Township. It occurred on June 18, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. A resident returned home to discover unknown suspect(s) has forced entry into the home.

(Nottawasaga)-On June 19, 2014 at 10:30am, the Mayor of Essa, the Essa Fire Chief and the Ontario Provincial Police will hold an update for the Media with regards to the current restoration process after the Tornado in Angus.

This Media update will be held at the OPP Command post at the Nottawasaga Pines High school on County Road 10 in Essa.

(COLLINGWOOD AND THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ONTARIO) Auxiliary officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) went out to local parking lots in Collingwood and The Blue Mountains last night checking vehicle doors ensuring vehicles are locked.

“Lock It or Lose It” was developed by the OPP and the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) as a proactive crime reduction program designed to encourage drivers to take simple precautions that will protect their valuables from theft.

In total, 233 vehicles were checked last night, out of which only 3 were found unlocked and only 1 with valuables in plain view. Residents are reminded to remove valuables from their vehicles when parked for an extended period of time or move them out of sight and of course, lock their vehicle doors.

This is a great initiative from our Collingwood/The Blue Mountains OPP Auxiliaries which they conduct on a regular basis and once a car is checked, they will leave a leaflet on the car with information on crime prevention. A great reminder to continue to lock it or lose it and with the small numbers of cars found unlocked last night, it shows that residents are taking steps to prevent theft.

(NIPIGON, ON.) – On June 5, 2014 at approximately 10:38 am on Highway 11-17 at the township of Lyon, Nipigon OPP stopped a 2007 Dodge truck for traveling in excess of 130 km / hr.

Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected an odour of alcohol emitting from the driver’s breath. A Breath Sample Demand was issued and subsequently the driver was found to be almost four times over the legal limit.

31 year old James DEPAOLA of Thunder Bay, ON was arrested and charged with Driving With Over 80 mgs. of Alcohol in 100ml of blood. The accused has been released and is to appear in Nipigon Provincial Court on July 22, 2014 to answer to the charge.

(GULL BAY, ON) -On Tuesday June 17, 2014 at approximately 3:20am members of the Armstrong Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Gull Bay Police were dispatched to a report of a residential fire on Trailer Park Road in Gull Bay First Nation. Investigation revealed that the fire had been deliberately set. There were no injuries as a result of the fire but the home sustained major fire, smoke and water damage.

As a result, 21-year-old Ryan KWISSISENS of Gull Bay First Nation has been charged with Arson and Breach of Probation contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing June 18, 2014 and was remanded to the Thunder Bay District Jail.

(POINT EDWARD, ON) Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in relation to a collision that occurred in Point Edward on June 12, 2014 at around 2:00 a.m.

Investigation determined that a Chevrolet Cobalt struck a fence and then crashed into a parked car in the area of Front Street and Village Green. The four occupants of the vehicle fled the scene prior to police arrival. Three of the four occupants, two 20 year old females and a 21 year old male all from Windsor, attended a local hospital where they were treated and released.

The 21 year old driver, Brandon KRYSKA, who is from Lloydminster, Alberta, was not injured. He has been charged with careless driving, fail to remain, and fail to report accident all under the Highway Traffic Act. He will appear in a Sarnia Provincial Court of Justice to answer to the charges at a later time.

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On June 17, 2014, just before 8:00 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a traffic complaint involving a Freightliner tractor trailer driving erratically on Highway 401 westbound near Mull Road.

Officers located the vehicle, which appeared to be exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and subsequent traffic investigation at scene revealed that the vehicle was not equipped with a speed limiter and that the driver’s licence was suspended.

The driver, 33 year old Manishkumar PATEL, from Toronto, ON, has been charged with the following:

Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Driver Fail To Surrender Licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle Not Equipped With Working Speed Limiting System, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The owner of the vehicle, a numbered company from Mississauga, has been charged with Permit Operation of Commercial Motor Vehicle Not Equipped With Working Speed Limiting System, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is inviting all farmers and seasonal agricultural workers to an education safety seminar being held at a South Drive, Simcoe, Norfolk County Ontario address.

On Friday, June 20, 2014 between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., an education safety seminar is being conducted at the Aud located at the Norfolk County Fairgrounds at 172 South Drive, Simcoe, Ontario.

Members of the OPP will be on location to address a number of topics which include the following.

Drivers licence requirements
Drinking and driving
911 emergency calls where the caller does not know their location
Municipal by-laws
Farm vehicles and the licence requirements needed to operate them
Slow moving vehicles

This seminar will focus on mandatory laws as well as bicycle safety issues.

“The main focus of the seminar is designed to encourage as much involvement by the participants as possible. One of the overall goals is to enable any seasonal agricultural worker to feel comfortable and confident about any of the mandatory laws that they may need to know while employed in and around Norfolk County,” comments Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP.

Police will also have a Spanish speaking officer available at the seminar to address any questions that may be asked by any Spanish speaking participant.

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members are actively engaged in the organization’s commitment to keeping Ontario’s roadways safe. On Monday June 16, 2014 officers became aware of two separate incidents where drivers on local highways were found to be under the influence of alcohol and made the choice to drink and drive.

At 2:30 am an officer stopped a black 2004 Honda Civic on Highway 401 westbound near County Road 30. The officer began an investigation and determined that the driver had consumed alcohol as a result of a “fail” on the roadside screening device.

Evor James LEONARD, 41 from Grafton has been charged with one count of drive motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams blood alcohol content under the Criminal Code. He was released on a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Wednesday July 2, 2014 at 9:30 am.

Then at about 3:28 am on June 16, a second officer received a suspicious vehicle complaint. The officer located the beige 2002 Dodge Ram parked on the wrong side of Rice Lake Drive in Hamilton Township. The male driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and taken for breath tests.

As a result of the tests, Ryan S. SUFRIN, 40 from Belleville has been charged with Care and Control of motor vehicle over 80 milligrams blood alcohol content under the Criminal Code. He was released on a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Wednesday July 16, 2014 at 9:30 am.

Both accused have had their vehicles impounded for seven days and their drivers licences suspended for 90 days.

(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Tuesday June 17, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint about a vehicle swerving all over the road and eventually side swiping another car.

Witnesses observed the 2003 silver Dodge Durango driving in an erratic manner westbound on Highway 401at approximately 10:15 am. The vehicle was stopped at County Road 45 in Hamilton Township after a serious collision with a second vehicle, deploying both air bags in the Durango. The female driver was found to be exhibiting bizarre behaviour but did not have an odour of alcohol coming from her. Officers conducted an investigation into the collision and contacted the Central Region Canine (K9) unit to assist. Investigators arrested the female driver for several offences.

Amanda Rae SHIELDS, 37 from Grafton, Ontario has been charged with the following offences:

Possession of Schedule l Substance – other drugs – 5 counts – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Driving under suspension and fail to wear seat belt – Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released on a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Monday July 21, 2014 in Cobourg at 9:30 am.
