Males steal bike lights – arrested

On June 25, 2014 at 2:12 p.m., the Guelph Police went to the Old Quebec Street Mall after receiving the report from security that two males and just stolen lights off bicycles and fled the area. Investigation led to the arrest of the two males on Baker Street. One of the males was found to be in possession of Crystal Meth when he was arrested.

An 18-year-old Guelph male has been charged with theft under $5,000, breach probation, breach OIC undertaking and possession for the purpose of trafficking (CDSA).

A 29-year-old Guelph male has been charged with theft under $5,000 and breach probation.

Both were held in custody pending a bail hearing on June 26, 2014.

Tweets not the way to notify police of an incident

With more and more people using social media as a form of communication and information gathering, police are starting to see an increase in the amount of people trying to use this method to activate police to an incident. Although social media is a great way for police to get information out to the community, this type of call for service is not a recognized means of request by Guelph Police. Using social media in this way is not a safe way for you to request service, as police do not monitor social media 24/7. If you need assistance, please call 519-824-1212 or for an emergency, call 911. If you are just looking to make a comment or ask a question then social media will work for you.

Sudden death investigation (Blenheim)

On Wednesday the 25th of June 2014 at around 3:15 p.m. Chatham Kent Police, Fire and EMS responded to a home on 13th Line Blenheim regarding a possible sudden death. A 83 year old male was found deceased and an 85 year old woman was found in medical distress. The woman was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. The incident is still under investigation however it does not appear suspicious at this time. A post mortem is scheduled for the 26th of June 2014 for the deceased male.

Male arrested for threats and bail violations (Wallaceburg)

Chatham-Kent Police attended an address in Wallaceburg regarding an altercation that occurred on Wednesday at about 2:30 p.m. in Wallaceburg. The 55 year old female victim advised she was driving her scooter on McNaughton Ave. when a 55 year old male who was known to her threatened bodily harm to her and some others. The male was also on conditions not to communicate with the female.

The male suspect from Wallaceburg was arrested and charged with 3 counts of uttering threats and one count of breaching his recognizance. The male was held for a bail hearing.

Motor Vehicle Collision (Chatham)

On the 25th of June 2014 at about 4:10 p.m. Chatham Kent Police responded to a two vehicle collision on Queens Line near Dillon Road just west of Chatham. One vehicle was reported to have rear ended another. One involved driver was a 59 year old woman from Florida. Total damage to the involved vehicles was estimated at $15,000. Impaired Care and Control

Date: Wednesday, June 25, 2014 – 11:00pm
On June 25th 2014 at approximately 11pm, officers observed a vehicle travelling westbound on Mapleview Drive East. The vehicle was observed swerving slightly between the marked lanes which alerted the officer to perform a vehicle stop.

As the officer approached the vehicle, he observed a male driver to have a strong odour of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and glazed eyes. The officer immediately recognized the male driver should not be operating a vehicle and subsequently arrested him for being impaired.

The 35 year old Barrie male was escorted back to the station where he provided a sample of his breath and it was determined the male was more than twice the legal limit.

He was subsequently charged and held in cells until sober where he was released with a court date in the second week of July.

Cruelty to Animals

During the morning of June 25, a citizen reported to a patrol officer that she observed a German Sheppard with a plastic bag over its head and a belt around the neck walking along the northbound side of HWY 400 between the ONroute Gas Station and Essa Road. Officers attended the area and conducted a search but were unable to locate the dog. If the public has any information regarding this matter, please contact police.

A.W.A.L. from RVH

In the late afternoon hours of June 24, 2014, a male that was arrested by police under the Mental Health Act, fled the hospital after being admitted. This morning information was received that the male may be at residence on Donald Street. Police attended and were successfully able to locate the male. He was taken into custody and transported back to RVH.

Missing 14 year old female

(Ottawa) The Ottawa Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing 14 year old girl. Keelana Mckendrick was last seen over 24 hours ago on Queen Mary Street.

Mckendrick is described as a white female, Slim build, 5’7” (170cm), 110 -115 lbs (50-52 kg), long straight dark brown hair to mid back, brown eyes.

Investigation concluded in the fatal collision at Hunt Club and Merivale

(Ottawa) The Ottawa Police Service Collision Investigation Unit concluded its investigation into the death of a cyclist at the intersection of Hunt Club Road and Merivale Road on October 17, 2013.

The investigation resulted in no charge being laid against the driver of the vehicle involved in this collision.

Elementary school custodian charged with sexual offences

(Ottawa) On Wednesday, June 25, 2014, the Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Section charged a Smiths Falls man with sexual offences stemming from allegations of inappropriate touching of students at an Ottawa elementary school.

On March 4, 2014 Ottawa Police was notified by the Principal of allegations from several students of inappropriate behaviour by the custodian. As a result, the custodian was reassigned to nightly duties.

The Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section (SACA) conducted an investigation and identified five victims in relation to inappropriate touching by the custodian.

On June 25, 2014, SACA investigators charged Daniel SABOURIN, 44 years old, of Smiths Falls with five counts of Sexual interference and five counts of Sexual assault. He is scheduled to appear in court today.

SACA investigators are concerned that there could be further victims.

Hand Foot and Mouth Infections Spreading

Huron County, ON – The Huron County Health Unit is seeing an increase in hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD) also called coxsackie. They are advising residents, particularly parents of children attending daycares, to stop the spread of infection by increasing hand washing.

Public Health Nurse Dori Taylor says hand foot and mouth infections may cause fever, poor appetite and blisters in mouth, on palms of hands and bottom of feet. The virus can be found in saliva, blister fluid and stool and is spread from person-to-person by unwashed hands.

Taylor encourages children be kept home from daycare if they are sick and may return when able to participate in normal activities. There is no specific treatment for HFMD and most people will recover in a few days.

“Hand washing with soap and water for 20 seconds is the best way to prevent the spread of this infection as well as other infections” says Taylor. Using an alcohol based hand sanitizer with between 70-90% alcohol when hands are not visibly dirty can also work. Hands should be cleaned after using the washroom, after changing diapers, after shaking hands and before preparing and eating food.

Health Unit Looking for a Dog Involved in a Biting Incident in Stratford

Stratford – The Perth District Health Unit is looking for a dog involved in a biting incident in Stratford to complete an investigation. The incident took place on Saturday, June 21, at 3am on Downie Street in front of Twice the Deal Pizza.

The dog is described as a medium-sized King Shepherd, which is black and brown in colour and goes by the name Lou.

The Health Unit is investigating this incident to check if the dog has up-to-date rabies shots. If the dog is not found, the person who was bitten may need to complete a series of rabies shots.

The Perth District Health Unit reminds people to always obtain the contact information of the owners of the animals involved in a biting incident.

James YORK – Trafficking Methamphetamine

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – On June 24, 2014 at approximately 7:00 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Street Crime Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant at a residence located on John Street, Harriston, in the Town of Minto.

Officers searched the residence and located a quantity of methamphetamine, marihuana and multiple pills including oxycodone as well as drug paraphernalia. Police also seized a large quantity of illegal cigarettes.

James YORK aged 48 of Harriston has been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Marihuana, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Oxycodone contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The accused was held for a bail hearing.

York was also charged with Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes and Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes for Sale Purposes contrary to the Tobacco Tax Act and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offences Court on September 17, 2014 to answer to the charges.

OPP INVESTIGATE FATAL MINING ACCIDENT

(MATHESON, ON) – Members of the Matheson Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment and the South Porcupine Forensic Identification Unit are working in conjunction with the Ministry of Labor in regards to a fatal mining accident which occurred at the Holt Mining Project which is an operation of St Andrews Gold Ltd.

The mine site is located approximately 60 kilometers east of Matheson on Highway

101, near the Quebec border.

The incident, which resulted in the loss of life to one man, occurred at approximately

5:00 p.m. this afternoon on surface.

The scene is currently held under the control of the Ontario Provincial Police.

The name of the deceased man is being withheld pending notifications to next of kin.

The Coroner’s Office has been notified of the event as well.

A post mortem examination will take place in the due course of the investigation.
