(HURON COUNTY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to investigate three suspected substance related overdose deaths that have taken place in Huron County since the end of January 2020.

A 38-year-old from Goderich and a 29-year-old from Exeter died on the weekend of January 25/26th and a 23-year-old from Morris-Turnberry was found dead on February 5, 2020. All three males died in their respective homes.

In each case, investigators are awaiting on the results of toxicology tests to help determine the cause of death however they are each being treated as unrelated drug overdose deaths.

Three deaths in a relatively short period of time certainly highlights the fact that the misuse and abuse of controlled substances is dangerous and can be deadly.

If you suspect someone is overdosing or is in need of medical attention immediately call 9-1-1 and stay with the victim.

Please remember the OPP supports Canada’s Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act that provides protection from charges for individuals at the scene of a drug overdose for simple drug possession.

(HURON EAST, ON) – A Scarborough resident will have to make a trip back to Huron County to face a number of charges following a traffic stop that took place last weekend in Huron East.

On Saturday, February 15, 2020 at approximately 11:24 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling on Kippen Road when a speeding vehicle was observed approaching the officer. The officer activated a RADAR device and measured the speed of the vehicle in excess of 30 km/h over the posted 90 km/h zone.

A traffic stop was conducted and it was soon learned the driver held a suspended driver’s licence. As such the driver was placed under arrest for driving while under suspension. A search of the vehicle was conducted and a quantity of cannabis was found readily accessible to the driver.

Further observations led the officer to conducting a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) on the driver. The driver complied and performed poorly. The driver was now placed under arrest for Impaired Operation.

The driver was subsequently transported to the Sebringville OPP Detachment for further testing conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). The tests were completed and it was deemed by the DRE the driver had failed.

As a result, Angela TAYLOR, 54 years of age, from Scarborough has been charged with Impaired Operation, Driving While Under Suspension, Speeding, Fail to Surrender Insurance Card and Drive Vehicle With Cannabis Readily Available.

The accused has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 9, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice Goderich.

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A young driver from South Huron has been charged with Impaired Operation following a traffic stop that took place last week near Huron Park.

On Friday, February 14, 2020 at approximately 12:10 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a suspected impaired driver on Airport Line near Crediton Road. Officers from both the Middlesex OPP Detachment and Huron OPP Detachment had been patrolling for the suspect vehicle after receiving a call from a member of the public about the driver.

Upon stopping the suspect vehicle the investigating officer spoke with the driver and noticed several signs of impairment through alcohol. The driver was arrested for Impaired Operation and was subsequently transported back to the detachment for breath tests.

He later provided two samples of his breath to the intoxilizer technician and both of his results were analyzed to be above the legal limit.

Christopher HOHNER, 19 years of age from South Huron has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus and Operation While Impaired. He was also served with a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded. He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for March 26, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter.

(GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On February 20, 2020, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) Grey Bruce, Owen Sound Police Service (OSPS), OPP CSCU Huron-Perth and the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant at a property at Grey Road 1, Georgian Bluffs, Grey County.

The executed Warrant is part of an ongoing methamphetamine and Fentanyl trafficking investigation being jointly conducted by members of the OPP CSCU Grey Bruce and members of the OSPS Drugs & Intelligence Unit.

As a result of the execution of the search warrant, police seized cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, Psilocybin, GHB (Gamma Hydroxybutyrate) and Percocet Pills. The combined estimated street value of the seized Controlled Substances is $3,711.00.

Police also seized offence related property that consisted of $3,450.00 in Canadian Currency and drug trafficking and production material.

22 year old, Maria MOULTON from Kitchener was charged with the following:

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – On February 13, 2020 at approximately 3:55 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a vehicle in the ditch with a possible impaired driver on Wellington Road 87 in the Town of Minto.

Officers located the vehicle however, the occupants had left the scene. Police followed the footprints in the snow up to a residence and located the driver. It was confirmed that the heavily intoxicated person did not have permission or authority to be in the house and was placed under arrest. While enroute to the OPP Operation Centre the accused spat mucus throughout the rear of the police vehicle.

As a result, Dustin Robert ZOLNAI, 31-years-old of Greyhighlands has been charged with Unlawfully in a Dwelling and Mischief contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on March 20, 2020 to answer to the charges.

(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) – On February 19, 2020, at approximately 12:00 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Express Way in the City of Guelph. The officer observed a silver sedan travelling above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 165 km/h.

As a result, a 17-year-old from Waterdown has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on May 6, 2020. The defendant’s vehicle and driver’s licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

(TOWN OF PUSLINCH, ON) – On February 19, 2020, at approximately 5:40 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a robbery in progress at a business on Brock Road South just north of Highway 401 in Aberfoyle.

It was reported that a lone suspect entered the gas station and demanded cash from the store employee.

The clerk was threatened however, no weapon was observed.

The suspect stole an undisclosed amount of currency and was last seen entering a black sedan with dark tinted windows and black spoked rims.

The suspect is described as male, tall , Caucasian, medium build and wearing a black hoody with an orange hood and grey sweatshirt under it, black pants and white running shoes.

(MUNICIPALITY OF SOUTH BRUCE, ON) – Officers from the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment, with the assistance of the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team continue to investigate a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred yesterday afternoon north of Mildmay.

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. on February 18, 2020 South Bruce OPP, South Bruce Fire Department and Bruce County Paramedic Services responded to the crash scene located on Highway 9 just south of Concession Road 12 East.

Upon arrival emergency personnel located two involved vehicles; a compact car and a transport truck.

The preliminary investigation has determined the compact vehicle was northbound on Highway 9 when for unknown reasons the driver crossed the center line into the path of a southbound transport truck and a head-on collision ensued.

The driver of the compact car was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as Kenneth Bruce MACDONALD, 75 years of age from Teeswater.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place today.

The driver of the transport was uninjured.

(PLYMPTON-WYOMING, ON) – On February 17, 2020 at approximately 11:00 a.m. the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to several calls in relation to a suspicious vehicle in the Town of Plympton-Wyoming.

Initial investigation revealed the occupants of the vehicle were approaching residences and attempting to sell their asphalt services.

The Lambton OPP is urging all homeowners to be very skeptical when someone arrives at your door wanting to inspect your home or inquiring about any personal information about you or your residence.

Here are some tips to protect yourself from a potential door-to-door scam.

Don’t feel pressured to make a quick decision – take time to do some research on a seller and the products first

Ask for photo ID, get the name of the person and of the company or charity they represent

Ask for the charity’s breakdown of where the funds are allocated. Be sure to get this in writing.

Only allow access to your property to people you trust

Research before you invest. Don’t sign anything and always read the fine print

Know your rights. Contact your local consumer affairs office- most provinces and territories have guidelines under their consumer protection act.

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On February 15, 2020, at approximately 5:20 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call at an eating establishment located on the Main Street in Rockwood. It was reported that two people known to each other, were fighting on the balcony above the business.

As a result of the investigation, John David NICHOLSON, 56-years-old of Guelph-Eramosa Township has been charged with Assault and Utter Threats to Cause Death contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of Justice – Guelph on March 20. 2020 to speak to the charges.

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On February 14, 2020, at approximately 8:45 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Wellington Road 7 near the Fourth Line. The officer observed an orange sedan travelling northbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 135 km/h.

As a result, a 17-year-old resident of Guelph, has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice – Provincial Offences Court on April 15, 2020. Their vehicle and driver’s licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
