(HURON EAST, ON) – Combatting impaired driving is a community issue and certainly takes the efforts of everyone to keep our roadways safe. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) frequently receive calls from members of the public about possible impaired drivers and every single call is treated as a priority. Last weekend a call from a member of the public about a suspected impaired driver resulted in police removing another impaired driver off of Huron County roadways.

On Friday, February 21, 2020 at 6:45 p.m. Huron OPP members received a traffic complaint of a suspected impaired driver that was operating a pickup truck near Seaforth. Shortly thereafter an OPP officer spotted the suspect vehicle heading eastbound on Highway 8 out of Seaforth. A traffic stop was conducted and upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted and the driver subsequently registered a fail. As a result the driver was arrested and transported to the Exeter OPP detachment for breath tests.

The driver subsequently provided two samples of his breath to the qualified intoxilizer technician and both of his test results were analyzed to be above the legal limit.

Jacob ASHBY, 25 years of age, from Mitchell has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus. He was also served with a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded. He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for March 23, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

(DUFFERIN COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been kept busy in the midst of the winter storm by responding to more than 35 calls involving motor vehicle collisions, abandoned vehicles left in snow drifts and stranded motorists. This is in addition to their regular calls for service.

Most notably, just after 3:00pm, OPP attended a single vehicle crash on Airport Road in the Township of Mulmur. The vehicle had left the roadway, rolled over and came to rest in the ditch. The officer made observations that the driver appeared to have been consuming alcohol prior to the collision.

67-year-old Craig PARSONS of Mulmur Township was arrested and charged with:

Operation while impaired by alcohol

Operation while impaired by alcohol – 80 plus

The accused was released and will appear in Orangeville court in March.

The OPP are reminding drivers to ensure they are driving according to the changing weather and road conditions. Turn on full headlight assembly (ensuring that taillights are functioning as well) and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A traffic stop last weekend in Clinton has led to the arrest and a subsequent charge of Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus against a Central Huron driver.

On Sunday, February 23, 2020 at around 3:10 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a motor vehicle leaving a licenced establishment in Clinton thus prompting a sobriety check on the driver.

Upon stopping the vehicle at the north end of Clinton the investigating officer spoke with the driver and quickly noticed the driver had consumed some alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted and the driver subsequently registered a fail. As a result the driver was arrested and transported to the Listowel OPP detachment for breath tests.

The driver provided two samples of his breath to the qualified intoxilizer technician and both of his test results were analyzed to be above the legal limit.

Christopher HOGGARTH, 47 years of age from Clinton has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus. He was also served with a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded. He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for March 16, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

(HURON EAST, ON) – A young driver from Huron East has been charged with Impaired Operation following a traffic stop that took place last week in Huron East.

On Saturday, February 22, 2020 at approximately 1:30 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a sport utility vehicle on Brussels Line to conduct a sobriety check on the driver.

Upon stopping the vehicle the investigating officer spoke with the driver and noticed the driver had consumed some alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. As a result the driver was arrested and transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests.

Cameron GIBSON, 19 years of age from Huron East has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus and Young Driver – BAC Above Zero. He was also served with a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded. He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for March 23, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

(PERTH EAST, ON) – On February 25th, 2020, Perth County OPP received a complaint from a resident in the village of Newton, reporting a package had been stolen from their front step the week before.

The homeowner confirmed with the delivery company that the package had been delivered to their residence on February 19th.

This is the second similar theft report Perth County OPP has received in the last month. The OPP is warning residents that thieves will target parcels left at someone’s home when they are not available to accept them.

The OPP recommends that anyone placing an order online, attempt to be home when the package is delivered. If this is not an option, Police suggest having a friend or a trusted neighbour be available to accept the delivery or pick it up for safekeeping.

Installing a motion-detecting security camera that records video is also an option that homeowners can consider.

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – During the day on February 23rd 2020, unknown suspects broke in to a rural home located on Line 82 in Elma Township.

The suspects used a pickaxe located in the barn to break in to the locked residence. No one was home when the break in occurred.

Thieves stole an unknown amount of cash from the residence.

The homeowner reports observing a silver or grey car in the area around the time the break and enter occurred.

(WEST PERTH, ON) -Overnight on February 22nd 2020, unknown suspects stole a 2016 charcoal-grey Chevrolet Traverse from a rural residence located on Line 39 in Logan Township.

During the course of the investigation, a lime-green SuperCycle Rogue Mountain Bike was recovered at the end of the vehicle owner’s driveway.

The keys to the unlocked stolen vehicle were left in the ignition.

Police would like to remind vehicle owners to ensure your vehicle is locked when not being used and the valuables have been removed.

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fail to remain collision involving a motor vehicle and a cyclist on Wellington Road 6 near Side Road 7 in the Town of Minto that occurred on February 25, 2020 at approximately 7:00 p.m.

It is reported that a northbound older model sedan collided with a cyclist on Wellington Road 6. The driver of the sedan stopped briefly and spoke to the injured teenager before getting back in their vehicle and was last seen travelling north bound.

The vehicle is described as an older model dark coloured sedan similar to a Chrysler Neon. There will be damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle.

The driver is described as female, in her 20’s with dark hair and glasses.

The 14-year-old cyclist was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is listed in stable condition.

(GODERICH, ON) – On Friday, February 22, 2020, members from the Huron-Perth Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the Grey-Bruce CSCU, Elgin-Middlesex CSCU, West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Huron County OPP executed a second search warrant at a residence located on Huron Road in the Town of Goderich, Huron County, Ontario.

As a result of the execution of this search warrant police have arrested and charged four individuals. In addition, police seized illegal drugs and controlled substances consisting of Methamphetamine, Hyromorphone pills and Buprenorphine pills. The estimated street value of the drugs is estimated at $3,609.

Police also seized offence related property that consisted of drug trafficking paraphernalia, cash, cell phones and digital scales.

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On February 20, 2020 at 10:43 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a (black) pick-up truck travelling westbound on Highway 21 near Allenford Road, South Bruce Peninsula in Bruce County. The officer observed the truck swerving into oncoming traffic and stopped the motor vehicle. The driver was arrested for being impaired while operating a motor vehicle and transported to Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Wiarton for a breath test. The results of the breath test were twice the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

21 year old, Dakota SYLVEST from South Bruce Peninsula has been charged with the following:

The accused has been released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on March 5, 2020.

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking tips from the public to help solve a recent break, enter and theft that took place in Clinton.

On Tuesday, February 18, 2020 between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. two male suspects entered into an attached garage located at a residence on Beech Street in Clinton. Once inside the garage the suspects stole a case of beer and two bottles of wine.

A neighbour reported seeing two male suspects near the crime scene and when he approached the suspects they took off running.

One suspect was around 6′ tall wearing a grey coat with a scruffy face. The second male was described as being around 5’10 with a skinny build and was wearing a dark red coat.
