Janice THEOBALD: Drunk Driving

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation following a traffic stop.

On Wednesday. February 19, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Bancroft OPP officers conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act offence. The investigation determined that the driver had restrictions on their licence but did not have an ignition interlock system in the vehicle being driven. Officers also conducted a roadside test with an Approved Screening Device. The driver was then transported to the detachment for further testing.

As a result, Janice THEOBALD, a 38-year-old resident of Bancroft, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80) plus
  • Operation While Prohibited
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on March 4, 2025.

2 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(ORILLIA, ON) – Over the span of six hours, two individuals from Orillia are facing Impaired related charges after traffic stops conducted by members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

On February 19, 2025, around 4:30 pm, an officer was conducting proactive patrol around Front Street South in the City of Orillia. At that time, an alert was received by the Automated Licence Plate Recognition system (ALPR), advising the officer of a suspended driver, and a traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle. Speaking with the driver, the officer entered into an impaired operation investigation and issued an Approved Screening Device demand (ASD), to which the driver refused to provide a sample.

As a result of the investigation, Cody MILLS, 34-year-old from Orillia, has been charged with the following:

·      Failure or refusal to comply with demand (CC),

·      Driving while under suspension (HTA), and

·      Possess more than one licence (HTA).

Later that day, around 9:15 pm, an officer was conducting proactive patrol around Victoria Street and Dunlop Street in the City of Orillia when they observed a vehicle stuck in a snowbank. The officer began speaking with the driver to see if they required assistance and entered into an impaired operation investigation due to the behaviour of the driver. The officer issued an ASD demand, and the driver provided a sample which resulted in a “Fail”. Subsequently, the driver was arrested and transported back to the Orillia Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Kelly NEWMAN, 46-year-old from Orillia, has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while impaired – 80 plus (CC).

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia at a later date.  Their driver’s licences have been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Robert BARNES: Drunk Driving

(LAKESHORE, ON) – One person has been charged following a single motor vehicle collision in Lakeshore.

On February 19, 2025, at approximately 7:27 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a vehicle in the ditch on Comber Road in the Municipality of Lakeshore. 

Robert BARNES, 61-years-old of Blenheim, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Fail to surrender insurance Card

• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Windsor on March 3, 2025, to answer to the charges.

Fatal Collision

(OXFORD, ON) – The Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred on February 20, 2025, at approximately 10:53 p.m. on Road 68 between 45th Line and Zorra-East Zorra Tavistock Line.

Emergency services, including Oxford OPP, Oxford Fire, and EMS, responded to the scene.

A 27-year-old male driver from Ingersoll was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other driver, a 27 year-old male, was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. The OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team are on scene to continue the investigation.

Road 68 remains closed between 45th Line and Zorra-East Zorra Tavistock Line and is expected to remain closed for most of the night. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes.

Hwy 11 Fatal Collision

(GREENSTONE, ON) – On February 19th, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., members of the Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Fire & Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a report of a collision involving one motor vehicle & one commercial motor vehicle (CMV) along Highway 11, just East of Highway 584.

One individual has been pronounced deceased as a result of the collision. While the investigation remains on-going, there is no evidence to support any charges at this time.

Highway 11 remains closed and the OPP North West Region Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team and OPP Technical Collision Re-Constructionists have been engaged.

Accused # 2 Dillon William ROPER 32 years of Midland was arrested and charged criminally with Theft Under $5000- SHOPLIFTING and further with Fail to Comply with Probation Order

and was released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on April 4, 2025.

Cocaine Bust: Names Released

(AMARANTH, ON) – As a result of a traffic stop, members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in drug related offences.

On February 15, 2025, members of the Dufferin County OPP conducted a traffic stop for a motor vehicle on County Road 109 near County Road 12 in the Township of Amaranth. Upon identification and initial investigation, it was learned that the driver was in breach of a release condition and a search of the motor vehicle was conducted. As a result:

Cynthia PENA AVALOS, a 31-year-old from Toronto has been charged with:

  • Adult Failure to comply with undertaking- (2 counts)
  • Adult Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Adult Improper number plate light
  • Adult Fail to have insurance card
  • Adult Drive motor vehicle in contravention of conditions

Daniel OKUYA, a 24-year-old from Toronto have been charged with:

  • Adult Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Cocaine

The following items were seized:

  • 128g of Cocaine
  • Scale
  • Cellphone

The accused individuals are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville, to answer to the charges.

Fatal Collision

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – A collision in Oxford County has resulted in the death of one individual.

On Wednesday February 19, 2025, at approximately 5:00 a.m., members of the Oxford detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Oxford County Fire Services and Oxford County Paramedic Services were called to the intersection of Base Line and Norwich Road in Norwich Township for the report of a two-vehicle collision.

A transport truck and a passenger vehicle collided.

The lone occupant of the passenger vehicle, a 22 years-of-age resident of Simcoe was taken to hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

The lone occupant of the transport truck was uninjured.

Base Line remains closed at Thirteenth Concession Road and Caley Road. Norwich Road remains closed at West Quarter TownLine Road and Hanmer Line.

The investigation is ongoing. West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Unit (TIME) Team is on scene assisting Oxford OPP with the investigation.

Randolph (Randy) KUNZE Facing Numerous Charges

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – The East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrest and charge same person for same offences in neighborhood.

On February 9, 2025, numerous complainants reported a multitude of harassment and threats by a known person in a neighborhood in Elliot Lake. The complaints were the same as what transpired in May 2020, where the person was arrested and charged with 16 offences at that time.  

After another extensive police investigation, the person was arrested again on February 19, 2025.

Randolph (Randy) KUNZE, 41-years-old, from Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • Criminal Harassment – 12 counts
  • Mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property – 11 counts
  • Uttering Threats – cause death or bodily harm – 4 counts

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bail Court in Blind River on February 19, 2025.

Shannon SMITH Facing 13 Charges

(RENFREW, ON) – One person has been arrested in connection with multiple cases of vandalism in Renfrew.

The incidents were reported on Saturday, February 15, 2025, by residents and businesses along Raglan Street South. More than a dozen locations had been marked with a paint-like material in the early morning hours. The incident resulted in numerous bank ATMs in the community being out-of-service.

On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, as a result of the investigation, officers arrested an individual.

Shannon SMITH, age 47 of Renfrew, has been charged with 13 counts of mischief-disrupt lawful enjoyment of property.

The accused was release from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on March 12, 2025.

Fatal Fire

(PORT LORING, ON) – The North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal structure fire in Port Loring that resulted in one death and another person being transported to hospital.

On February 17, 2025, at approximately 7:15 a.m., the North Bay OPP, the Argyle Fire Department, and North Bay Ambulance responded to a residential fire on Lovers Lane in Port Loring.

An 80-year-old resident of Port Loring was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second individual was transported to hospital by ambulance. The deceased has been sent to Sudbury for a postmortem examination.

The North East Region (NER) OPP Forensic Identification Service (FIS) and the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) are assisting with the investigation. The Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario – Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are also involved. At this time, foul play is not suspected.

18 Year Old From Harriston Arrested: Details Released #WaitInTheTruck

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charges Harriston resident with two criminal charges in relation to an intimate partner violence investigation.

On February 18, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP were dispatched to a report of a disturbance at an address within Harriston.

As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old of Harriston is charged under the Criminal Code with the following:

  • Assault – Spousal
  • Assault with a weapon – Spousal

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph at a later date.

The OPP will not release names to protect the identity of the victim(s).

School Bus Collision – Driver Charged

(SUDBURY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged the driver of the bus.

On January 20, 2025, shortly before 8:30 a.m., members from the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the OPP, Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a collision between a school bus and a Commercial Vehicle, in the north bound lane of Highway 69, Sudbury.

As a result of the investigation, a 50-year-old person from Sudbury was charged with three counts of careless driving causing bodily harm.

The accused was issued a Provincial Summons and is scheduled to appear at an Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on April 1, 2025

Murder: 22 Year Old Arrested

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have charged a 22-year-old man and are seeking witnesses following an arson at a restaurant in the Township of King.

On Sunday, February 16, 2025, shortly before 3 a.m., police attended a restaurant in the area of Highway 27 and King Road for reports of a fire. When emergency services arrived, the premise was fully engulfed in flames.

King Fire and Emergency Services extinguished the fire, conducted a search of the property and located a deceased person inside.

The circumstances surrounding the fire are considered suspicious and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been engaged.

The identity of the deceased person will not be known until a positive identification has been made by the Office of the Chief Coroner.

Through investigative efforts, a suspect was identified and charged.

19 Year Old Road Rager Arrested

LONDON, ON (February 18, 2025) – A London man is in custody in relation to a weapons investigation over the weekend.

At approximately 1:25 a.m., on Saturday, February 15, 2025, a male was a passenger in a ride-share vehicle when he observed a motor vehicle in the area of Wharncliffe Road and Horton Street.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was described as driving in a dangerous manner, repeatedly speeding up and slowing the vehicle down directly in front of the ride-share vehicle.

Both vehicles approached the intersection of Wharncliffe and Wonderland roads, where they were stopped at a red light in their direction.

The victim lowered his window, and the driver of the suspect vehicle produced a handgun and pointed it at the victim, uttering threats towards him.

The victim and suspect were not known to each other.

Police were contacted and entered into an investigation.

At approximately 1:50 p.m., the suspect male was located and arrested on Skyline Avenue. A search yielded a replica firearm.

As a result of the investigation, Rayan Harfooch, 19, of London, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Pointing a firearm;
  • Uttering threats of death or bodily harm; and
  • Race a motor vehicle.

The accused remains in custody and is expected to appear in London court today in relation to the charges.
