(HUNTSVILLE, ON) On Friday May 9, 2014 just after 8:00pm Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was made aware of a break in that occurred on Brunel Rd., in the town of Huntsville.

The victim came home from work to find that his back door to the inside of his residence had been left open. He went into his bedroom to find that the wooden closet door was off its hinges and his gun vault was missing from inside the closet.

Chinese model SKS long rifle
Remington 597, 22 calibre semi-automatic rifle.
hunting knife described as having an 8” blade with a chrome tip and black handle
coin collection
bottle of Crown Royal in an engraved box
PS3 videogames.

Muskoka Canine will be in the area throughout the day assisting in this investigation.

OPP officers are investigating after a storage unit was entered and items were stolen. The storage unit is located at Kenwood Corporate Center in Arnprior. The victim reported their theft took place in March or April, but was just being reported as they had recovered some stolen property at a local Pawn shop. Stolen property includes a safe containing identification and jewelry. Provincial Constable Denis Baranovskiy is investigating.

Police are also investigating after several storage units on Staye Court Drive in Arnprior were entered. Locks were cut off the doors and some of the stolen property includes two Master craft power drills in cases, a Master craft circular saw, and a Delta chop saw. The break in was reported on May 2, it is unclear when it happened. Provincial constable Denis Baranovskiy is investigating.

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) -On Thursday May 8, 2014 at approximately 7:10 p.m. Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thames Centre Fire and Middlesex London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a report of an injured male trapped under farm machinery on a property on Dorchester Road in the Municipality of Thames Centre.

Despite the efforts of the responders, the male, Reini SIMONIS, age 44 of Thames Centre, ON succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted today.

(Augusta TWP.) On Thursday May 8, 2014 at approximately 5:30 PM members of the Grenville County OPP- Prescott Detachment responded to a single ATV Motor Vehicle Collision on Hart Rd. in Augusta Township.

The driver of a 2012 Artic Cat ATV, a 46 year old male from Augusta Township was traveling on Hart Rd. when for reasons under investigation lost control of the ATV and crashed.

The driver was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Technical Traffic Investigators were called to the scene and the incident remains under investigation.

Updates will be provided when they become available.

(NAPANEE, ON)- The Napanee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have taken a report of Road Closure Signs/ Posts and Flooding Signs being stolen from the Phillips Rd and Maple Sugar Rd area in Tyendinaga Twp.

These signs were reported to have been removed sometime over night on the 8th of May., 2014. The signs were in an area where there had been recent flooding.

(NAPANEE), On May 9th 2014, at approximately 2:00 am, members from the Napanee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were responding to a complaint of unwanted persons at an address on Melrose Rd., Tyendinaga Twp. It was reported that both male and female voices could be heard outside of the complainants home, that unknown person(s) were banging on the doors and windows of the home.

As the OPP were arriving at the residence, a vehicle was observed leaving the area. The vehicle was pulled over and there were three occupants in the vehicle. Further police investigation revealed that these three (3) occupants were the unwanted persons.

The following charges have been laid as a result of this investigation:

A 17 year old female young person, from Augusta Township, and a 17 year old female from Elizabeth Township., have been charged with Mischief, and a 17 year old male from Elizabeth Township has been charged with two (2) counts of Mischief, contrary to the Criminal Code

The young person(s) name cannot be released pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They have all been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Napanee Youth Court on the 09th of June 2014.

As a result of a general search warrant executed at a property on Talbot Line (Hwy #3) West Elgin, Elgin County OPP have charged a 60 year old West Elgin man and a 35 year old West Elgin woman with numerous criminal offences.

Police executed the general search warrant on May 1, 2014 which resulted in police seizing;

48ft trailer reported stolen April 7the from the Flying M Truck Stop.
2008 Chevrolet 4×4 pick-up reported stolen out of Waterloo in the summer 2013
.22 Cal Cooey Rifle
Stolen License Plate

Police arrested and charged Randy BAKER, age 60 of West Elgin with:

1. Two counts of Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

2. One count of Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

3. Careless storage of a firearm

4. Unauthorized possession of a firearm

Police also arrested and charged Charlene Marie BAKER, age 35 of West Elgin with;

Two counts of Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

One count of Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

Both accused are scheduled to appear in St Thomas Criminal Court on May 27 2014.

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is investigating acts of Mischief at an InkermanStreet, Port Dover, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

Between Monday, May 5, 2014 and Thursday, May 8, 2014, unknowns attended the residence and gained entry. It does not appear that anything was taken however once inside the residence unknowns proceeded to spray paint graffiti. The OPP is urging all residents to regularly check their vacation homes

The OPP responds to numerous calls from cottage and/or trailer owners reporting that their vacation home has been broken into. The OPP continue to educate the public on the importance of securing your vacation home and frequent checking of your property to help reduce the number of break-ins and thefts.

Police are advising all vacation property owners to ensure that all valuable items and alcohol are removed from the premises. Small appliances and alcohol are often targeted by thieves as they are easy to steal and equally easy to sell for cash. All property owners should ensure that their property is locked and secured at all times.

The OPP encourage property owners to make frequent checks of their vacation property during the “on and off season” to ensure everything is secure. If travel time limits the number of opportunities to check in, arrangements should be made with a trusted friend or campground affiliate who will randomly check your property for you.

“The OPP continue to appeal to persons living in and around trailer parks and/or cottages to report any and all suspicious activity to police when it happens. The OPP will remain committed to cottage and trailer security,” comments Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP.

Elgin County OPP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying additional witnesses to a collision which occurred on March 2, 2014 around 8:20pm on Pioneer Line near Coyne Road in Dutton/Dunwich. Elgin County OPP is warning the public that there has been a rash of entries to sheds around the area of Coulter Ave. as well as on Tike Road, Central Elgin which is near the South east end of St.Thomas. The entries took place on May 8th between 4:00am -7:00am.

Police were initially called at 6:58am by a neighbor on Tike Road saying that lawn equipment, including a riding lawn mower, had been left on the road. The complainant’s dog had been barking for at least 15 minutes and possibly spooked the suspects. Items that were strewn across lawns including a Stihl leaf blower, Stihl weed whacker, Simonez power washer. Other than these items being moved, nothing was reported as stolen. No damage was done to the sheds (3 entered in total).

Police were later called at 1:34pm for entries to sheds on Coulter Ave. This is believed to be related to the Tike Road occurrence. Police canvassed the neighbourhood and found 4 sheds entered/damaged (bolt cutters used on some and others pried open). Nothing was taken other than a pair of red work gloves. The suspects also attempted to enter a utility trailer.

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County Detachment were contacted by an alert citizen after noticing two females and a male at a Union Street South, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario, address.

On Thursday, May 8, 2014 at approximately 7:08 p.m., an alert citizen observed two females and a male attempting to enter a parked vehicle that was located on the roadway.

The alert citizen confronted the suspects however all three suspects fled from the area.

The first female is described as white, approximately 20 years of age, tall with brown hair, slim build, wearing black shorts and running shoes.

The second female is described as white, approximately 20 years of age, strawberry blonde hair and was wearing orange shorts and running shoes.

The male was described as white, approximately 40 years of age, blonde hair, wearing beige pants.

No entry was gained by the suspects and police are reminding all Norfolk County residents to immediately contact police if they observe any suspicious activity.

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On Thursday, May 8, 2014 at approximately 10:49 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a domestic assault at a residence in the Township of Southgate where a 49 year old female had been assaulted.

While investigating the incident, officers observed two firearms, a shotgun and a rifle, improperly stored. Further investigation revealed the owner of the firearms did not possess a firearms licence.

The 44 year old male was charged with domestic assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and careless storage of firearm. The firearms were seized.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on Thursday, May 29, 2014.

(NAPANEE, ON)- The Napanee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to report of a break and enter at the Ernestown Secondary School located at 50 Main St., Odessa, Loyalist Township.

The break in is believed to have occurred sometime in early hours on Thursday, May8th between the hours of 03:15 am and 03:30 am.

Unknown person(s) gained entry, by prying open a door to the school, once inside broke into a vending machine. It is unknown at this time how much money or the value of damage that was done to both the school exterior door or the vending machine.
