YOUTH ARRESTED AFTER FLEEING FROM POLICE

(CHIPPEWAS OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION, ON) – A young female has been charged with numerous charges after stealing a vehicle and fleeing from police. On Tuesday June 3, 2014 at approximately 3:21 p.m. Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Police responded to a report of a 16 year old female who stole a passenger van from the Nimkee Healing Lodge located in Chippewas of the Thames First Nation.

The suspect vehicle was observed a short time later by an officer with the Oneida Police Service. The vehicle failed to stop for police and continued into Elgin County along Iona Road. The suspect vehicle evaded a tire deflation device that was deployed and drove into an adjacent field in the area of Fingal Line.

The suspect vehicle was eventually stopped with the assistance of officers from the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County OPP and a 16 year old female was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, police have charged the youth with the following offences:

Young Person Theft Over $5000 of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to S. 334(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC).
Young Person Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to S. 249(1)(a) of the CCC.
Young Person Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer, contrary to S. 249.1(1) of the CCC.
Young Person Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking Given by Officer in Charge, contrary to S. 145(5.1) of the CCC.

The youth was remanded into custody and later released by way of a Recognizance.
