TRAVELLING AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED IS DANGEROUS FOR EVERYONE

(TILLSONBURG, ON.) – On Sunday May 11, 2014 at approximately 6:21 p.m., while on general patrol, an officer from the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment, observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 3, Tillsonburg.

A grey Ford Fusion was observed travelling westbound on Highway 3, at a speed of 141 km/h in a posted 80km/h zone. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver, a 17 year old male from Tillsonburg has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

The male driver has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle-Perform Stunt-Speeding by 50 or more kilometres under the Highway Traffic Act.

The vehicle has been impounded for the prescribed 7-day period and his driver’s license is suspended for 7 days.

Drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it more difficult for drivers to react to changes, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injuries or death will occur.

OPP would like to remind the motoring public to manage their time and respect all the rules of the road when travelling.
