PURSUIT INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARREST

(CALEDON, ON) – On May 8, 2014 at approximately 11:25 pm, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting speed enforcement in the area of Highway 10 near The Grange Side Road. The officer observed two motor vehicles travelling beside each other and appeared to be racing. The officer determined that the vehicles were being operated at 150 km/hr. in a posted 80 km/hr. zone.

The officer activated the vehicle’s emergency equipment to conduct a vehicle stop. The vehicles failed to stop for police and continued southbound at a high rate of speed. Both vehicles turned off their running lights, travelling in complete darkness. At the Olde Base Line Road intersection, one of the vehicles made an eastbound turn, while the second vehicle continued south. The officer maintained eye contact on the southbound vehicle and observed as the driver made a deliberate and dangerous skid into the northbound lane of Highway 10. At that time, the officer had a clear and unobstructed view of the vehicle and the occupants. The officer pursued the suspect vehicle until the driver accelerated through a red light at the intersection of King Street and Dixie Road. The registered owner of the vehicle was a female from Milton.

The officer continued his investigation and the male driver surrendered himself to police on May 23, 2014.

In conclusion, Kayla MICHAELSEN, 22, from Hamilton was arrested and charged with Obstruct Justice. Neil BRIONES, 21, from Brampton was arrested and charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police. He was also charged with Stunt Driving.

The accused male is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on June 26, 2014. The accused female is scheduled to appear on July 10, 2014.
