(ORO-MEDONTE TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Monday June 3, 2014, at 9:37PM, officers from the Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision that had occurred in the southbound lanes of Highway 11, just north of Line 6 in Oro-Medonte Township.
Upon arrival of the police, it was determined that a southbound motor vehicle had lost control and struck the centre box beam restraining barrier. Portions of the barrier and debris from the initial impact littered the highway which resulted in two other motor vehicles being damaged.
The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 26-year old female from Severn Township was pronounced deceased at the scene.
As a result of the investigation that was conducted by members of the Central Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) Unit and the Barrie OPP, northbound Highway 11 was closed at Line 5 and southbound Highway 11 was closed at Line 7 until approximately 6:00AM this morning. The highway did reopen with a single lane in each direction while crews replaced the damage centre box beam.
The OPP wish to thank motorists for their patience and understanding while this section of highway was closed overnight and also while lane restrictions remained in place while repairs were carried out.
The investigation into this traffic fatality remains ongoing. Any witnesses are asked to please call the Barrie OPP at (705) 726-6484.
