OPP ARREST FEMALE FOR DRUG OFFENCES AFTER COLLISION

(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Tuesday June 17, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint about a vehicle swerving all over the road and eventually side swiping another car.

Witnesses observed the 2003 silver Dodge Durango driving in an erratic manner westbound on Highway 401at approximately 10:15 am. The vehicle was stopped at County Road 45 in Hamilton Township after a serious collision with a second vehicle, deploying both air bags in the Durango. The female driver was found to be exhibiting bizarre behaviour but did not have an odour of alcohol coming from her. Officers conducted an investigation into the collision and contacted the Central Region Canine (K9) unit to assist. Investigators arrested the female driver for several offences.

Amanda Rae SHIELDS, 37 from Grafton, Ontario has been charged with the following offences:

Dangerous operation of motor vehicle and public mischief – Criminal Code
Possession of Schedule l Substance – other drugs – 5 counts – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Driving under suspension and fail to wear seat belt – Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released on a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Monday July 21, 2014 in Cobourg at 9:30 am.
