(CALEDON, ON) – On May 19, 2014 at approximately 8:17 pm, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised to lookout for a group of motorcycles travelling at a high rate of speed southbound on Airport Road from the Dufferin area. According to officers from the Dufferin Detachment, speeds were recorded at 189 km/hr.
An officer from the Caledon Detachment attended the area of Highway 9 and located an eastbound motorcycle matching the description provided by Dufferin officers. The officer observed as the rider was operating his motorcycle at speeds between 180 and 200 km/hr. Further, the officer observed as the operator was weaving in and out of traffic in a dangerous fashion. Within a short distance, the officer located the same motorcycle parked outside a Highway 9 residence. The officer entered onto the property and concluded that that the rider had been involved in a motor vehicle collision prior to his arrival. Upon speaking with the motorcyclist, the officer observed that the rider was shaken up and that his motorcycle gear was damaged. The officers contacted the ambulance service to assess the motorcyclist’s injuries. He was later released with a minor injury.
In conclusion, Ahmad Samim DAWRAN, 21, of Toronto was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Dangerous Driving. Officers from the Dufferin Detachment charged the rider with several Highway Traffic Act of Ontario offences.
