MISCHIEF FIRES

(TRENT HILLS, ON) – At approximately 7:40 pm on Wednesday May 21, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were requested to attend a location by Trent Hills Fire Department (THFD) where they were extinguishing a suspicious mischief fire.

OPP attended to the Bridge Street East location in Campbellford where THFD had put out a fire consisting of a large quantity of cardboard boxes behind the Salvation Army Thrift store. Staff had reported that the boxes had been put out for recycle collection but because of the long weekend holiday, pick up was delayed and they were moved from the street to behind the store. There was serious damage to the west side exterior wall of the building but fire officials reported that it was only surface damage and did not appear to penetrate into the wall.

On May 12, 2014 THFD had responded to a dumpster fire on Front Street South near the LCBO but this was not reported to OPP at the time.

OPP continue to investigate.

Anyone with information regarding the person(s) responsible for these mischief fires should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call the Peterborough/Northumberland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), where you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 and not have to appear in court.
